Australia: Knife-wielding man kills six people and injures baby at shopping mall

- A critically-injured baby's mother is among six shoppers killed, and eight others stabbed, by a man armed with a knife at a major Sydney shopping centre. Witnesses say the dark-haired, bearded man, wearing a Kangaroos ARL jersey, chased and slashed at shoppers as he went on a wild rampage through Westfield Bondi Junction before he was shot dead by police. Among the dead is a mother, 38, who threw her stabbed nine-month-old to a bystander in a bid to save his life. It is understood the baby is undergoing surgery, but the mother has since died from her injuries in hospital. Prime minister Anthony Albanese called the attack 'a horrific act of violence' at a press conference alongside Mr Kershaw in Canberra. 'The nation offers our deepest condolences and sympathies to all those who are grieving for someone they have lost and we send our strength to those who have been injured,' Mr Albanese said. Great question. There are numerous security guards at that mall. I go there often. However, they tend to hang around the street level areas to prevent running thieves. You don't see them on the top levels as often.

guards are usually not armed, they are supposed to be a visual deterent for thieves and are there to evacuate in case of fire or other emergencies and they are often times instructed to not engage because of liability

The racism shown by the Australian public in their comments when not given details of the perpetrator was shameful. Most assumed some Muslim Islamist did it - then someone started a name ‘ Benjamin Cohen’ ‘that flew around the comments clearly the latter was to insight aggression towards the peaceful Jewish community and the former the same towards Muslims- surely the Media and Police could have indicated sooner OR not shown any footage at all. Could it not be that some demographics of people have a long history of violence and committing various violent acts such as these? I bet you yourself probably thought that a Muslim might be the attacker in this incident until it was reported otherwise. And if that turned out to be the case, I bet you'd be defending them right now and saying 'The act of one man doesn't represent the whole demographic of people' etc.
The point is most people aren't flaming racists looking to blame everything on certain groups of people.
