Icelandic authors discuss and reflect on Icelandic Literature and its important place in Iceland's history and culture. Video directed by Einar Egilsson
This is such a weird niche channel and I've never been to Iceland and will probably not go soon but I love it. Also the editing is just so.fucking.good. Impressive
Beautiful, absolutely moving. Thank you for focusing on this! I've found that I gravitate towards reading a lot of Icelandic crime novels and this video made me go back and relive some of the best moments on my bookshelf (as I dug into it to check). It's amazing how feelings can waft through your memory with simply touching the cover of an old book.
Glad you enjoyed the video. It's true, it often feels that there are few things better than a good book. Glad to hear you've read some of the Icelandic Literature! Cheers.
Iceland has always had such a special place in my heart... I was lucky enough to visit your breathtakingly stunning country in 2013 (and to get engaged among puffins in Látrabjarg😊). Recently I've started reading Jón Kalman Stefánsson's Heaven and Hell trilogy in Hungarian, and my longing to go back again grows day by day. I even started learning Icelandic when my baby sleeps!😉 Your music scene is also great, Ásgeir is one of my favourite singers. Your country and culture are truly special. Lots of love to you all from Hungary! Vanessza
You guys should do a video like this on your food, I would love a more in depth look at your food culture in Iceland, I love your channel it has taught me so much! I hope to visit someday!
Love the video and insights. I always am curious about how Icelanders have their own vibe, now I can imagine one of the reasons are came from the fear.
I would love some recommendations on Icelandic literature that is translated or written in English, and captures the real feel of the landscape and the people in Iceland.
It's so difficult to pick and choose! Given your description, one immediately thinks of 'Independent People' by Halldór Laxness. More of his fantastic work has been translated, of course! Laxness a major part of our literature culture. Or Njálssaga, if you want glimpse into the Icelandic Sagas. Great books by Arnaldur Indriðason and Yrsa Sigurðardóttir have also been translated. Just to name a few!
@@inspiredbyiceland Thank you for your recommendations. I've heard of Independent People before, so I will definitely check that one out. Yrsa Sigurdardottir is also a name I have heard before.
