- Dustin shows us how to replace shear bolts on your Ariens Snow Thrower. Shear bolts protect the auger and gear case from needing to be replaced. Shear bolts are cheap and easy to replace! Augers are not. If you have any questions, be sure to visit us at HomCo Lumber and Hardware! We're your local snow blower experts!

Now I can fix my neighbor's Ariens. Thanks
Thank you, I replaced my first sheer pin today, this video helped quite a bit.
A link in the description would be good so I can purchase these through your website.
Do not "tighten" the shear bolts. You turn the nut down while holding the bolt until the nut makes contact with the auger tube. Tightening weakens the shear bolt and/or compresses the auger tube onto the shaft defeating the purpose of the shear bolt.
Its good also to leave a small amount of space between the nut and the auger shaft so the sheer bolt can break like it supposed to if the snow blower hits a stationary object.
One of my older shear bolt is stuck and half broken. Maybe please extend the video into how to remove the old ones too. Having difficulty hammering it out with screw driver. Should I remove the Auger from one side to get better access?
nail punch and a hammer might work better.
So, what do you do if both ends broke off?
Carefully use a hammer and put in a new bolt. The loose part should come out easily. Happened on mine
I imagine that sometimes someone will hit the bolder that they put at the end of their driveway for some odd reason but for most people your 2 min. video is all you need to replace a shear bolt if you didn't do some other serious damage from being a dumb ass running a snowblower.................. People that need 2 hours and still don't have it fixed should have picked up the pieces and taken it to a shop because the only piece that should be the broken is the shear bolt.
