You missing it...You gotta feel the time and moment when the track dropped. Living and smelling the air of the era is in large part what makes music great. The 1st part of the album was a whole vibe vibe. Land of the snakes made you feel Outkast...She knows with the choir was deep. Man...this was his launching pad. It is carved into you....that hip hop wasn't dead.

This album is ridiculously classic - everytime I come back to it the appreciation grows. It's not as lyrical, slick, or concept oriented as other projects but the production is VERY good, and musically this album is incredible. Cadence, bars, and his delivery, meshed with the incredible production and the cohesiveness of each track is only achievable by producing, writing, and rapping every note/word. Love this project.

Never heard a song quite like it, describing what it's like being in a relationship where everything’s perfect, while still having the feeling it's holding you back from everything you still want to do and achieve. And the way he changes the subject matter on the third verse and goes much deeper is pure perfection. Not to mention the beautiful instrumental outro with that bass and violins.

You gotta listen again bro. I felt the same way when it first dropped. Now I can say it's probably my favorite Cole album as of right now on 5-6-21 lol. I think I was taken by surprise when it dropped because I was expecting a certain sound from him going in. And when it went left sonically, I couldn't recover from my expectations until I sat with it for another day or 2. Then the stories, lyricism, shift in mood from dark to light, all hit me, and became a classic. I was expecting him to be super aggressive, talk trash, claim he's the goat on the album, etc. But this has a more somber vibe, but lyrically and musically is excellence. Listen to the instrumentation, the song concepts, lyricism, and sequencing. It's very cohesive.

Imo Forrest hills drive is miles better (and friday night lights too).
This albums is too long and inconsistent plus is from a time were mainstream rappers (and R&B singers) will throw a song with a random mainstream type of sound for the sole purpose of being on the radio. Thank good we're past those days.

@@crastofer Forrest hills drive was just boring to me. It was 4 or 5 songs that I really liked but it wasn't enough "juice" on the album. Just depends on what you like I guess. Friday night lights is just plain classic though.
