The performance of Anthony Hopkins was the first one that made me stop and take notice of a performance in a film. I saw it for the first time when I was maybe 10 or 11? I sat there terrified but also fascinated. At first it was just the score and Anthony's performance but as I've gotten older I have grown to really appreciate the film as a whole. That is definitely one where you think about it winning so many awards and you're like: yeap, makes sense.

Such a good character omg. Hannibal Lector is a fall back inspiration for when I make psychopathic villains, along with a few others like Heath Ledgers joker and the six-fingered sadist in the princess bride.
This interview touches on why I'm drawn to these villains, it's because they are our own dark reflections and we'd just love to get to know them and pick their brains, because we really wish to learn about ourselves. "Could I have been this?" We ask, and the answer is yes, and that facinates us as well as scares us.

Interesting his comment on the shaving scene from Dracula, because I think that is from the 1992 film, a year later than Silence of the Lambs. Confusingly!

I think he just mistakenly mixed the two movies. He mentioned Bela Lugosi and that movie was made in 1931 so I'm sure that was the reference. If you watch Lugosi's performance, you can easily see Dr. Lector. The shaving cut scene in the 1931 movie was actually a paper cut I believe, and Lugosi immediately is overcome with lust after seeing the blood. You should watch that film, I will as well again, to see that marvelous performance that Hopkins copied perfectly.

15:11 : It sounds like he's saying 'Playing Bach, the interia(?) song (or soul?)'... Does anyone know which song he's referring to?
