Always lovely to see an update ❤ we just had an house fire last Monday and I think your channel somewhat prepared me for this because when I saw the damage, I just went “At Least it isn’t as bad as the Chateau” So now I’m rooting even more for you because if you can rebuild all that. I can have a kitchen and dining room rebuilt. Cheers to our never ending little projects. 🎉

If you will not make temporary stair treads, rent or buy adjustable steel treads, as used on construction sites, they go on a 50x200mm piece of lumber (each side) and can be assembled in minutes. thank you for the effort to film, edit and post these videos.

If you want to see one being repaired with the "same" materials and processes, there's a channel where the French government is pitching in on the repairs. It's a historical building from the 18th century named Chateau de Purnon. It wasn't quite in the state that Dan's chateau was in when they bought it, parts of it were open to the elements for a long time. It's huge with a lot of incredible architectural features, kind of like something out of a historical romance.

Amen Dan. Stairs are about as big a thing as the Roof. We are all very happy for you and excited to see the progress! Howdy from Oregon USA. Loved the opening "Noggins"!

I presumed upstairs took the worst from the massive fire. I think from watching for so long you did take on the worse of the burn at first. I can see so many more features of the old building in tact. LOVE!!!

I look every evening to see if Dan has posted. I feel so hooked on watching his persistence and endeavour to restore rhe château. He works with an eager and keener attitude constantly. Bravo

I'm so happy to see Dan again. Life is not the same without seeing your updates, Dan!!! But the important thing is that you are progressing so effectively..and can not wait to see those stairs finish and the walls plastered and clean...but I know the priority is the roof. ❤❤❤❤

I never cease to marvel at Dan’s enthusiasm and unflagging energy. By the time I have finished one of his vlogs, my back is positively aching in sympathy. And his poor wee hands! I wish he would wear gloves.

When you understand the geometry and structure of stairs they are easy, it will help a lot that you still have the shadows of the old ones and in places the stringers, the sides. First part is count the number of risers, verticals and the goings or treads. Next measure accurately the height half landing to landing and landing nose to floor nose then divide the distances by the number of risers and goings. There are stair jigs available for routing the housings.
So apart from the router jig there is a book I highly recommend, George Ellis - Modern Practical Joinery. It will suit the age of the chateau as it was modern 100 years ago but still relevant today and contains a wealth of information about almost every joinery aspect of homes and commercial buildings. I was a construction site manager and often referred to it for help.

Speaking as a qualified engineer (retired) the ramp is probably the daftest idea you have come up with so far. It will be far too steep to be usable or indeed particularly safe! As several others have said, you have a template on the surviving stair sting anyway so no working out is needed. Just match the existing slots. I mean, yeah I know it is fun to try improvising, but really you are so likely to end up doing the job twice, I really would make things easier and cut some proper treads to start with.
