Even the greatest champions fall but she is humble in defeat. She didn’t even look disappointed. She has accomplished more than most could dream. Still number 1 in my book.
I do believe that this is the motivation she needed to step up her game. She may have been going through the same thing Jones did at LHW, going through the motions and not feeling enough risk. With her motivation and Alexa's new champ confidence, this rematch is going to be amazing.

Valentina is my favorite female fighter, but I think none of her control time was truly effective, besides getting taken down, Grasso did very well defending on the ground and was clearly winning the exchanges on the feet. Big congrats to Alexa, well deserved!

Nah aquí ninguna excusa hubo, si las levanto es porque si en el piso no se esta llegando a nada entonces es separarlas es como en el boxeo cuando se juntan y abrazan y no sueltan ningún golpe los separan y aparte si vamos a mencionar cosas porque no mencionas cuando Valentina le metió un pvtazo de gratis a grasso cuando el réferi había dado un parón, eso se te olvida a tu inconveniencia?
En boxeo la mexicana destacó un poco más no por nada Valentina ocupaba mucho el piso entre las rondas para evitar ese intercambio de golpes.
Además alexa no es muy buena en el piso y apenas y llevaba una ganada por sumisión mientras que Valentina llevaba como 10 sumisiones era su mayor fuerte y que una chica como alexa tuvo que entrenar para fortalecer su debilidad que era el piso y hacerle un mata leones a la grande de Victoria si eso no fue superior entonces no se que es.
Con que huevos dices que no esta a la altura de Valentina? Si defendió muy bien esos derribos peligrosos que tanto la caracterizan, se libró muy bien de sus intentos de sumisiones y estuvo a la par de striking. Alexa estudió muy bien a Valentina con esa patada que estaba esperando le dio muy bien un mata leones digno de aplaudir y sin ninguna excusa merecidisimo ese cinturón 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Grasso's boxing was beautiful to behold.
At this level it only takes one quick mistake to lose a fight. You see a lot in a person based on how they handle defeat. Much respect to V for her graceful loss 🙏🏾.
She was not graceful in defeat. Grasso fought her southpaw, had better standup, began stuffing her takedowns and forced her to make a "mistake." VS didn't give her much credit and is cringe on the mic.

Grasso was piecing her up on the feet good, that's the reason Val went for so many takedowns, which didn't necessarily help her do substantial damage on the ground, just control.
Well deserved win for the humble Grasso, who could teach Val a thing or two about being humble.

The wear and tear of the grind, I think is catching up to her. She and Nunez are probably just a fraction below their peaks right now. Class professional. That's the nature of the sport. If anyone has earned the right to an immediate rematch without any fuss, it's her.

I liked how Valentina was like I’m gonna keep fighting the best even tho she lost and most fighters take time off and train to get better. But not her her way of getting better is being in that cage and fighting which is thee only way to get better. This is the best thing for women's MMA because it keeps things interesting and it might be the best thing for Valentina. When you've been the champ for as long as Valentina has been the champ it must be difficult to find motivation for each fight. Nothing like a loss to find renewed purpose and motivation. We saw how Nunes responded in her rematch against Pena. Hopefully Valentina can do the same in her rematch against Grasso.
I agree 💯. There is no doubt in my mind that she will be back to reclaim her belt. Just like nunes she needed this and just how nunes changed her gym and coaches and game plan Valentina will do the same and come back dominant. She became unmotivated like you said. She even said this is better that there is now actual competition. She got another two years I think to her career. Make ‘em great champ. The 🐐

Valentina literally had it in a bag, until that slip with the spinning back kick. At least she was humble enough to recognize that the game can change with one wrong move. I’m sure she will be far more prepared next time and could win her title back, a great probability.
I wouldn’t say had it in the bag. She was losing the exchanges in terms of striking and seemed afraid to engage at times because Grasso was hurting her. Though she was winning the fight, the possibility of her getting finished wasn’t unlikely

She only had rounds 2 and 3 decisively, she clearly lost round 1 and round 4 was still up in the air
She was struggling in a majority of the exchanges and threw that kick in a panic to force Grasso off of her. Even without that kick she most likely would’ve went to a decision loss because Grasso started stuffing the takedowns at the very end and was still landing clean on her
Very few people have brought this up…but mid 30s for a woman in combat sports is fairly shopworn . If you look at Val’s entire span of activity she has a ton of mileage

Alexa made the fight of her life !
Val looked a couple degrees slower, tentative and did not have that snap in her kicks or strikes. Not in top form seemed not to be able to shift onto high gear. But that might have been Alexa, as she seemed to get stronger and faster as she figured out Vals timing. That Lobo Club in Mexico is world class, exciting to see who else will emerge.
Congratulations well done Ms Grasso.
Alexa's performance was great, but Valentina was not in peak form. In the first round, before the first punches and kicks are thrown, you could really see that she was unusually stiff and flat footed. With Alexa she faced someone that was able to immediately capitalize on it.
I really hope she gets that rematch, she's one of my favourite fighters.

She was very dominant for a while and defended the belt 8 times, and was winning this fight up until the side kick in and was taken down for the choke! Would love to see her come back. I'm a big Valentina fan, but respect to Alexa. She executed well. Going into the 4th round, Valentina was up 2 rounds to 1. If the 4th round had ended without a submission, it would have been a close round, but I'd lean toward Grasso. So, going into the 5th round I'd have had it 2-2. Of course, Grasso ended it, and hats off to her. Shevchenko has looked just a little off the past few fights.
If thr round ended in the 4th Valentina would have been up 3-1 she's not looking off just the other girls are finally getting alot better

I Can see that. She ended up taking it to be able to do some type of trilogy and have back to back Mexican fighters. Mexico is generating lots of money for UFC since it’s been on the decline in the US. Now it makes sense why the ref stood them up in seconds. It was so obvious. Plus that ref is on Dana’s payroll. He was on his slap league premier.
Fair play to Alexa she fought a good fight...this defeat will motivate Valentina and when they run it back she will win convincingly.

She was also winning the fight until Grasso capitalized on a mistake Val made. That doesn’t make her washed up. But, Val is probably on the decline. She’s hit the number where fighters tend to start going downhill in their careers. She is leaving her prime. This happens with every fighter.
