I’m from Puerto Rico so I’m extremely biased, but for me it’s Backlash, the crowd was on fire for everything, punches, rest holds, just how it used to be. We Puerto Ricans love wrestling so it’s awesome to see it make a comeback in the island on a mainstream level.
Backlash for me as well, I’d love to see what WWE could do at like, Estadio Azteca next, love seeing the Latino representation get some love
You could feel the energy through TV. I could only imagine what it would’ve been like being there. My vote goes to Backlash too.
And so you deserve to be. Puerto Rico was an amazing crowd!
I really really loved Backlash! I wasn’t sure how I felt about it before it went live, and man I was blown away! Especially with Bad Bunny, as I had never seen him wrestle before, and he went the distance 💪🏻 such a cool entrance as well.

To me the best ppv of the year is mania 39 night 1. It had everything I wanted to watch, the blood feud with Rey and his son, the shockingly amazing match with Rhea and Flair, and one of the best main events with the USOs and ko and Sami. It made me excited for night 2, while also not forgetting the incredible stuff that happened.
Unfortunately WrestleMania is a 2 night show so you can't separate it out by nights.

Im sorry lads, cant tell me that Sasha and Bianca wasnt a main event based off their reactions and that atmosphere. And the fact that it literally closed out a show

Absolutely Backlash got me, the crowd was hot and Bad Bunny was a “co main event” but should have been the headliner, I’d argue that Zelina v Ripley should have been the other main event especially with how much Rhea pushed to have the match go longer than planned and wanted to make Zelina look amazing in front of her hometown crowd.
For me, it's between WrestleMania 39 and All In for show of the year. Revolution, Backlash, Battleground, No Mercy and WrestleDream are also contenders for me
I flew from Canada to spend a week in London for All In, it was an outstanding show & watching it back now the cameras didn't capture the feeling of being there live. The crowd reactions don't translate so well for a stadium show

Honestly I'm fond of Money in the Bank because it was the first bit of any sort of pro wrestling that I had ever watched and it really got me into WWE
For me, Money in the Bank in number 1. It has the best bits from Backlash namely the crowd and mixed with the best bits from the Rumble namely the Bloodline story. The MitB matches were amazing with the slight exception of Logan and Richochets semi-botch. It had a returning Drew who has gone on to make Seth's belt relevant and been one of the best parts of RAW. It also helped that it was at a nice time so I could watch it live instead of the morning after
How did Royal Rumble make it but All Out, Wrestledream and Revolution all missed. I really don't get it.
I am baffled to see WWE have four PPV's on the top 5 when this was AEW's best ever year on PPV. Like literally, every PPV bar DoN was fantastic
WrestleDream was the greatest wrestling show I've ever seen, in my opinion.

@@reubeneliteThank you!! I just thought the conversation moved past it much quicker than, say, Forbidden Door or All Out. So it surprised me. Thats all! Easier to just be on the defensive I suppose! And even if I had hated it, as DozenMarks said, it would only be an opinion.

I count the Night 1 main event as a main event because the show ends for the night when that match is over. It starts up again tomorrow, sure, but that match is the last thing put on in front of that particular crowd on that particular night.
Not everybody who goes to Night 1 goes to Night 2, and the same the other way around. I'm only going to Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, and that's because I live 30 minutes from Philadelphia.
Stardom All Star Grand Queendom. It was a beautiful culmination of two years.
When Dan said he thinks about community a lot, my brain immediately went to the TV show Community.😅
Just like with the "best match" 2023 it was bonkers, how much good wrestling we had this year across all promotions. I really enjoyed "All In", I loved the Rumble (both Rumble matches and THAT angle at the end), Elimination Chamber was crazy with that crowd going wild for Sami (and him getting Worlds Collide back as his entrance theme) and that amazing men's chamber match.
And of course the other international shows with Backlash and Money In The Bank. Great wrestling, great crowds just a joy to watch. And as with the "best match" I hope 2024 can keep up with this level of great shows and matches.

The Royal Rumble was an all timer for Rumbles.
Big moment of Ricochet and Paul slamming into one another. Sheamus and Drew helping each other. Gunther going the all time distance. Dom reaching his apotheosis of his character. And Cody giving that feel good win.
Not surprised to see Wrestlemania and All In up there, but it's shocking to me how Revolution and All Out are not in the top 5. Those were unbelievable shows
We can not overlook the guy saying "My genitals were in my throat" at 8:57. Unlike the wrestling matches of the year podcast, which was more heavily skewed toward AEW and NJPW, I can understand why the PPV's of the year skew for WWE. WWE is the best at spectacle and at being a show/production and culminating compelling stories. Even if you're not a WWE hardcore fan, you know the PPV's are almost always MUST-SEE TV. I would have ranked ALL IN (at Wembley) as #1 of 2023 because a non-WWE show sold 81K tickets, and made WWE change it's PPV strategy for Europe for 2024 (Bash at Berlin, the counter-program to next year's ALL IN, and Backlash 2024 in France). It was CM Punk's last AEW match. Wrestlemania 39, with Cody v Roman was great, and is my #2 of the year.
I really enjoyed All In inside the stadium. MITB was great in the uk too but I was at Smackdown rather than the PLE for that one. Mania Night One was fantastic though.

WM is a whole. Votes should not count if people are saying they only count Night 1.
After WM, I have not been into WWE shows at all this year. They may have decent shows, but there haven't been any payoffs to their shows.

It's not about company vs company, they did best matches list the other day and it was mostly populated by AEW, so the claim that it's company bias is disingenuous. At the end of the day, it's their opinion and none of this really matters that much.
Agreed. For WWE to be good these guys expect long term stories that have been well thought out and take about 6 months to a year for the fans to get rewarded. Whereas for AEW to be good, all they need is a 40 minute match filled with super kicks and flips. I wish AEW was also held to the same standard as wwe
@@siddheshmirjankar910 how are wwe fans getting rewarded when nothing comes out of the ppvs wwe had? Sami and KO won the tag titles and didn’t do anything but feud with JD, Cody lost to Roman and was put in random feuds, Roman barely shows up.

Mania night one is the best Mania ever, surprised Clash of Champions didn’t make it on the list.
All Star Grand Queendom, best PPV of the year for me. It had 4 absolute MOTY Contenders, a fantastic Celebrity match and a retirement match that made everyone weep. Nothing touches it for me, WK17 and Mania 39 are a joint 2nd.
MITB and Backlash make up the top 5

As some who doesn't watch very much of WWE and watches all of AEW, I agree with the entire list, 6-10 as well, for the most part. I'd just swap the top 2 because WM Night 2 was weaker. Regardless, this has been a banger of a year for wrestling no matter the promotion.
Im from LA and fortunately I was able to go to both Wrestlemania nights. As a result I put wrestlemania both nights as my top 2, night 1 > night 2. Will remember it forever. 3rd I would put Backlash fs. Im Latino and seeing Damia and Zelina get their moment was special. Also seeing wwe get to experience a Latin Crowd was dope asf

Pretty ok with the list in general I’m more confused why the other videos had runner ups from like 15-11 and this one was 10-6, nitpicking I know but I would have loved to have heard more of a detailed discussion of the whole top 10 instead of just the top 5 but that’s just me

I'm biased because I was in the audience, but for me Wrestledream was the PPV of the year. Followed very closely by ROH Final Battle.
I have to park my bias really with being at AEW All In this year at Wembley, I would have to say WrestleMania (mainly due to Night 1) lived up to the hype. Elimination Chamber was close, but honestly this list sums up my feelings.
It feels right when WrestleMania is the best show of the year, because it really should be when you think about it, and this year's absolutely deserved it. The tag title match is one of my all-time favorites.
No-show should be counted twice. I like the way you guys counted wrestlemania night, one and two as one show. And there should never be more than one main event on one show.
WM night 1 was just about a perfect ple aside from the opening match. That tag team spectacle was a glorious car crash

I am actually kinda baffled by the Wrestlemania pick at #1. I loved Night 1! It was the best! But if you run a perfect race and then knock yourself out before the finish line, you still don't win the race.
All In was genuinely a fantastic show in front of the largest crowd with some of the best matches of this year. I think it belongs to that. WM is still in my top 10, but I will have to say that wouldn't be my call.
I'm not sure how you're baffled by this. WrestleMania was wwe"s biggest show of the year. (a company that's on fire right now) it also had like 4 moty contenders. Aew all in was Aew's biggest show (Not a hot product right now) had maybe 2 moty contenders. mania also had more moments and surprises imo.
WrestleMania was in front of the largest crowd (Peacock viewers) with the biggest stakes. 1,000-day champion or will Cody finish the story? All In didn’t feel like a must-see show.
@@dnm1499 It still had the biggest wet fart of an ending, edge v finn was hampered by injury, cena v theory went nowhere, Omos v Brock was a nothing burger, the womens tag was so mid it hurt, every miz segment was cringe to high hell, Shane explodes his quad, and again, THE WRONG PERSON WON NIGHT 2! The crowd was SILENT. Not booing! Silent.
It was a must see show, and overall I did like the ppv, but it ended TERRIBLY and had several issues.

To be clear, so is WWE, but to say AEW isn't hot right now with a awesome champion THAT I CAN WATCH ON TV, a thriving upper midcard, an amazing tournament in the C2, promos and storylines that make me give a shit, and the best overall work rate in wrestling right now? How can revolution and forbidden door be lower than backlash and the royal rumble?!
It’s like comparing the dark knight trilogy, avengers infinity war/endgame to Shazam and Aquaman. None are bad movies but they’re miles apart in terms of match quality. Backlash and Royal rumble rank higher for angles / non-wrestling related cinematography rather than in ring contests.
Oli is 100% correct, the main event happens on night 2. The main event is the last match on a card, I can't believe this is even up for discussion.
No. It's a main event or "headliner" is the most advertised match. Just like in music festivals you can have multiple headliners.
WM is now 2 shows. 2 shows=2 mains
@@Phoenixbrand95 Let me put it this way. Nobody on planet earth sees Sami / Kevin vs The Usos in the same light as Cody vs Roman. There was only one true main event last year, no matter how hard WWE tries to claim that there were two. The main event of night 2 just feels special, while the main event of night 1 feels like a great appetizer for what is yet to come.

Why does Wrestlemania Night 1 main event not feel like a Wrestlemania main event? Because you’re not going to see Roman defend the WWE title in the night one main event. You’re never going to have THE match on night one.
Bianca and Sasha in my opinion didn't Co main event anyone. That was just as much as a main event as Roman/Edge/Bryan. Or Any other main event headlined at a Wrestlemania

A lot of talk about the Sasha vs Bianca "main event", but im sorry. That DID NOT feel like a main event at all. Not to mention the match was awful. For those reasons alone i will never ever consider the last match of WM night 1 a WM Main event.

Night one was great for me, but once it got to the Pat McAfee cool off match, I started thinking about how Sami should be facing Roman and kind of soured on the rest of the night. It definitely wasn’t fair to the main event, but I was just so checked out thinking about how it felt like a consolation prize lol. Now he isn’t even in the orbit of the main event. Night two/the night after Mania was Vince’s last grand effort to teabag the fans

@@redbumblebee4951nah bro the general consensus most people online is that WWE had a way stronger PPV run this year than AEW, and that's fine, doesn't mean AEW is bad or anything. You cannot look at moments like Cody winning the rumble, Sami hitting Roman, Jimmy superkicking Roman, Bad Bunny's entrance and match, Gunther's entire run, etc etc and the crowd reactions they got and say that it's not deserved, even if you don't like the product or prefer AEW's product.

The sheer number of phrases I use every day with no clue where it’s come from that have DEFINITELY come from podcasts or sitcoms or Drag Race or a commercial for a washing liquid that’s no longer in production, and then get BAFFLED when nobody understands 😅

Considering you combine the 2 nights, wrestlemania falls WAY down the list for me. Night 1 was awesome, but 2 really stunk it up for me and put it below a few other shows WWE have done this year
Maybe I wasn't with the right people at the right time but mania wasn't anywhere near my ppv of the year
i get that wwe is hotter this year but i'm going to be perfectly honest, nothing wwe did this year came close to the run aew had of forbidden door to wrestledream in terms of ppv quality. the top 5 for me are

WrestleMania was ruined by night two. It only had one worthwhile match, and it stopped me from watching WWE'S product for like 3 months.
I loves night 1, agree that night 2 killed WWE for me for awhile. Gunther match was amazing... the ending just felt like oh no...

I just don't get it. WrestleMania is so cringe from start to finish. I just can't understand how wrestling fans can sit through Snickers ads, Snoop Dogg segments and horrible main event booking and think "yep show of the year". I genuinely gave it a chance this year, but i just couldn't stomach it. I will never understand

The top 10 match lists were filled with AEW matches, while the top 5 ppvs are filled with WWE PPVS. Tony Khan, if you're reading this, this goes to show that well thought out long term stories make the watching experience wayyyy better than 40 minute matches filled with superkicks and flips. Do better in 2024.
