In this video, my golden retriever Ellie and I hike into our remote cabin in the Chippewa National Forest of northern Minnesota. We're here to check up on the cabin and spend a few days here, as it will be the last time we get up here before my wife and I have our baby girl. While we are up here, we have a few surprises that make our stay a little more interesting. Join us for three days of peace, quiet, solitude and beauty at the cabin.

About our Family Cabin: The original Steward Family Cabin was built in 1936 and has been a place where generations of Stewards have grown to love and cherish the outdoors. There have since been a few iterations of that cabin, and today this is our family's getaway in the Northwoods of Minnesota. This building was built in the 1980s as a bunkhouse for the main cabin and was later converted to be our full time cabin structure. Our cabins in northern Minnesota have been the inspiration for all of my Tiny Cabins.

I recently bought 20 acres in northern Wisconsin just built a 16x20 off grid dry cabin. Nothing beats having a quiet retreat like this to get away from everyday life! Enjoy!

Ellie is such a well behaved, clean pup , and all of his creations are so very cozy and ornately attractive , very talented individual,I am a very happy little subscriber! I am a Minnesotan too. Like to watch your videos of our awesome state! The views are beautiful that you show. This winter has been something else for the snow. Got another 4” to 6” last night and trees are looking much like the ones you shook off in this video. Have never gone winter camping but it may be something we will have to try. Thank you.

Nice group of cabins I could live in a cabin like that forever. Sold my house moved to Nevada and am currently living in a small trailer your cabins bedroom is much larger than mine and just like you my girl sleeps on my bed usually hogging half or more but we love our dogs so it's all good 🙂

You have a beautiful environment to go Off Grid - Winter time certainly is a lovely time to be out, a sight that pleases the eye with all that snow. Love your uncles cabin so comfy and having so many special places is visit & stay in. Yes simple living is always a difficult one to achieve but out in the country side - there you are, use it like this. Gorgeous.

This video makes me so homesick for the MN northwoods. We lived on a forestry road near Pennington MN and I can remember those same mornings and evenings when there was absolutely no sound outside. I've never been able to duplicate it anywhere else I've been. I remember that the first couple of nights I lived up there, the silence was almost too distracting to sleep since I had never experienced it before. But it didn't take long to cherish it.
It is so unique right? I really love it too. But I can definitely relate to it being a little unnerving at first, especially if you’re alone. Thanks so much for watching! I’m glad that I could transport you back up there. I love that place so much
