My friend's family was murdered in London for just being Muslim. Many Muslim women have been attacked across Canada and the only thing they are told is, "try to use weapons of opportunity like your purse (against a knife or truck)" because nothing else is allowed 😔 It's really messed up when you are not legally allowed to defend yourself.
Canadian laws make defending yourself a crime. And what will this new proposed legislation do to historical military re-enactors, like myself? Muskets haven't been used in a crime for at least a century, but I can see the day coming where they'll be either licensed to death, or prohibited. And forget about discharging blanks at the ranks and flanks during these battle displays.
Don’t care. If I go somewhere dangerous (or if I just feel like it), I’m carrying a pistol. I stopped caring about our broken-ass system YEARS ago. I do what I want.
That’s because the liberals think that defending oneself from some poor criminals who are entitled to your property, your health, your money is wrong. They feel that some poor criminal should be at less risk than the victim. Plus with the racially biased sentences, where “ claiming” to be from a certain ethnic group where one is generations from actually being part of that group( say 2 percent) to get favourable sentences. I live in Winnipeg, and am a legal ( I mean after Trudeau banned 1500 guns ) was a legal gun owner of non and restricted ( now prohibited) where gun crime by criminals is unchanged by ban, but repeat offenders get probation over and over, despite hurting people but law abiding people need to be lambs to the slaughter while crim8nals run wild.
How is simple possession of any item, other than Unceded Indigenous Land, a cause for the public peace being disturbed? This would be like arresting someone for having a vehicle that can go over 120 km/h. I would imagine that on a balance of probabilities that motor vehicles at speed cause more deaths than illegal weapons. Is there a legal definition of what the public peace is?
I wouldn't hold my breath on getting these laws repealed as they are just too convenient for the government. These laws are not in place to punish criminals. They are there so police can confiscate the weapons without having to go through any due process. After all if the weapon is illegal there's no need to take someone to court and prove they had any kind of criminal intent. They can just take the weapon and you can't go to court to get your property returned. If you are actually charged with these kinds of offenses you can pretty much guarantee it's to put pressure on you because they want to use you as an informant in another case or because someone in the local police or prosecutors office has a personal vendetta against you.
The same people who would oppose non lethal means to defend oneself should, whenever they call the police to defend them, have a mandatory 40 min delay in police response and/or randomly be assigned to a group where the police won't respond or criminally charge them for being dangerous to the public peace. Watch how fast the self defence laws change.I do not understand the Governments response with people defending themselves. Especially considering when the main job of the police is, not to protect the public, but to enforce the law, (protecting people is actually quite low in that legal hierachy)
The people proposing this have armed guards surrounding them at all times, and exemptions written into the law to allow themselves, and only themselves, to be armoured. If you think our government isn't corrupt, take a look at how many laws have exemptions written into them for the people who write the laws!
But only in the "wrong" hands. If you're the victim of a crime rather than the perpetrator you'll probably be sent to jail for weilding a pencil as it was the only thing you thought you could have to protect yourself.

not entirely true. Of course, it totally depends on what you mean by 'freedom' as total freedom is anarchy - a completely rule-less society. Is that what you mean when you say 'freedom'? No society has total freedom. No collection of individuals can have total freedom even amongst each other. There are always going to be social mores and folkways to follow within any collective. Just like freedom, safety is a vague term and it all stems from the question of 'Safe from what?' It is entirely possible to have as much 'freedom' as is collectively agreed to and the security that the collective wants. An example could be a ranch/farm family needing to secure their farm from predatory wildlife. Simple answer to that security question. Unfortunately, once you have a population in the tens of thousands, let alone the tens of millions, the answer to the security question is no longer simple as there ends up being just as many answers to both questions (what is freedom and secure from what) as there are people. Today, everybody has a voice like never before in human history thanks to social media. That just makes things more complicated for everyone which can be both good and bad. I'm going to end my rant here before I'm up all night writing a treatise.......

I would go fishing after school practice survival ect and my teachers knew that and 9 times out of 10 when I pull it now I'm opening a package or cutting somthing the only other time I'm picking at my nails/scratching off a scab or using it as a nail clipper. Other than that it's in my pocket I dont evenclip it noone knows I have it. And the one time I was arrested the cop didnt even seeit I told him before he searched me and he gave it back at the end when he released me.
So they have "extreme concerns about people carrying prohibited weapons"? I know, pepper sprays are terrifying. For personal protection I like the idea of martial arts/self defence training with many caveats. Martial arts training is usually poorly done and gives a person a false sense of security. This can put a person in dangerous situations they might otherwise avoid.
here's the thing...its victim blaming. if you are put into a situation where you have to choose between life and death and the government tells you that you have to choose death or be penalized, that is victim blaming. if someone woke-up that morning and had meticulously made plan's to do harm, while you woke-up clearly planning to go about your daily business, yet! you get in trouble for defending your self from said wrong-do'er... that's victim blaming. its not *just* that the weapon laws are really fucked up, but with how laws are in place right now, they tend to be in favor of the law-breakers and leave law-biters afraid to call the cops if needed in case they themselves get in trouble for some trivial BS. there are no amount of "prohibition" you can make that can fix that. and that's not taking into consideration the systems/associations/originations that are supposed to be in working order but are in the gutter night now, like how corrupt the police have been portraying them selves lately, or CPS (thinking of the David Roman incident).
This has long been my thoughts on this. It has nothing to do with public safety. As seems to generally been the case these laws are drafted by people who don't face the same struggles as the general public yet they seem to believe they understand what everyday people go through. If they spent one day without body guards facing the same threats as people who live in crime ridden areas maybe, JUST MAYBE they'd realize how dangerous or even deadly these laws are. I'm not holding my breath, though. These politicians will never step out of their ivory tower long enough to catch a glimpse of what everyone else faces. They just show up for a photo op or shake a few hands and then they're into a motorcade and gone again.

You got it! They tell people "not to confront an attacker", yeah that works real well.
During the ninja craze (with movies and tv shows) of the 1980s the Liberal government banned ninja weapons because "think of the children!"
Better to be judged by twelve instead of buried by six. I will defend myself by any means necessary.
They are protecting themselves. Same with the PAL required to own body armor. They gotta know.
Thanks for sharing Runkle. 👍😎🤝😁
Only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun! Can't recall who's said that...
It was either Dirty Harry, or Jesus....can't remember which.
Say it with me, "dog spray".
Don’t care. If I go somewhere dangerous (or if I just feel like it), I’m carrying a pistol. I stopped caring about our broken-ass system YEARS ago. I do what I want.
I carry a can, blade, baton and knucks. If I had a pistol id carry that too.
Based. If they have no reason to stop you they'd never find out anyways. Our laws are broken and so is our government.
@@muffinxcancer Don't worry, they've been slowly removing the requirement for a "reason".
By this government's logic, because cameras are present in 100% of child pornography and revenge porn cases, nobody should own a camera.
If you are actually charged with these kinds of offenses you can pretty much guarantee it's to put pressure on you because they want to use you as an informant in another case or because someone in the local police or prosecutors office has a personal vendetta against you.
self defense is banned as an individual right to ensure those in power have control over your life
BTW, when my brother was a cop he responded to someone who beat his wife half to death with a frozen salmon. Should we ban freezing fish over 5 lbs?
Anything can be used as weapon in the wrong hands
But only in the "wrong" hands. If you're the victim of a crime rather than the perpetrator you'll probably be sent to jail for weilding a pencil as it was the only thing you thought you could have to protect yourself.
as a minority native american it baffles me a woman cant have non lethal pepper spray. Its unreal.
Bro stop with the identity politics, do you think your skin colour makes your opinion more valuable?

And idk why you assume its political im just saying what i am. Doesnt mean i have anything against non native americans. 2 of my closest friends are white from richer neighborhood and east indian. Only if we could...
Legally, I mean...
That’s not a knife! This is a knife!

Safety and freedom are a delicate balance. You can't have both.
not entirely true.
I'm going to end my rant here before I'm up all night writing a treatise.......
just picked up 4 cans yesterday.
Wrong time - would have been better to have this proposal under Conservatives.
our country is a friggin nanny state
Cannot have proliferation of prohibited "weapons" .... easy for politicians to say while surrounded by tax payer funded security detail armed with handguns and probable quick access to true (i.e. select fire) assault carbines and SMGs.
At a undisclosed time in a undisclosed location I used an undisclosed substance on a undisclosed individual who was the leader of a undisclosed group of young caucasian males blocking a undisclosed highway. The male leader dropped to his knees screaming in agony his cohorts abandoned him in the middle of the road. I have never heard of anything from anyone. They would have to go to the cops and the first thing out if a cops mouth would be what did you do to deserve what happened to you. FYI it was 10% mixture of something.
I love you for your discretion.
The reason for all those dumb laws are because politicians need to look busy.

Can you do a video on purchasing/possessing antique firearms in Canada? From my understanding their legal to buy without a pal license. But am wondering about the possible "legal loopholes".
Can you do this please
He did one already have a look it was a criminal case.
@@bctaxidermy it was an unrelated case that happened to involve an antique. We want to know when and where it's alright to open carry a black powder revolver.
Bear spray is legal, can buy at canadian tire...basically the same as pepper spray.
OMG a judge can order us to not carry a knife here?!?! What s load of BS.
I also love how our weapons laws have almost no basis in reality. Somebody saw a scary thing in a movie and took it for reality....dear god.
Just like how 5 r semi-auto black rifles are somehow more dangerous than a 30-06 semiauto hunting rifle... it's all just posturing to interest groups saying "LOOK WE'VE DONE SOMETHING!" while they don't have ANY understanding of what they've done.
If you're convicted of a minor offence you're likely to be released with conditions. Judges have a lot of power with regards to which conditions they put on you, and they're allowed to get creative. As a general rule, they shouldn't.
Simply carry anyway. We are all, as individuals, responsible for our own personal security. Better an assault charge than beaten and raped.
Cops in Edmonton set up no left turn sides in vehicle blind spots and then were ticketing people for turning left at an intersection that had no 'no left turn' sign in the intersection but had the signs before it.
May I say I carried a pocket knife since I was 12. I was homeless at 19 I never had an issue with getting in trouble even when it fell out of my pocket at school. Teach picked it up and told me after class he found it and be more careful next time. But then I was never an idiot or used it in a threatening manor.
Spend an hour at a bus loop in a sketchy area and you'll form clear ideas about where you stand on self protection.
So they have "extreme concerns about people carrying prohibited weapons"? I know, pepper sprays are terrifying.
Like I get there is a difference between lethal and less-than-lethal tools so I can at least understand when people try to restrict lethal things but I don't see how you can even begin to justify banning things like pepper spray or body armour.
If you can't have a blow gun, can you have the darts?
For personal protection I like the idea of martial arts/self defence training with many caveats. Martial arts training is usually poorly done and gives a person a false sense of security. This can put a person in dangerous situations they might otherwise avoid.
1/2" copper pipe is prohibited as well
here's the thing...its victim blaming. if you are put into a situation where you have to choose between life and death and the government tells you that you have to choose death or be penalized, that is victim blaming. if someone woke-up that morning and had meticulously made plan's to do harm, while you woke-up clearly planning to go about your daily business, yet! you get in trouble for defending your self from said wrong-do'er... that's victim blaming.
its not *just* that the weapon laws are really fucked up, but with how laws are in place right now, they tend to be in favor of the law-breakers and leave law-biters afraid to call the cops if needed in case they themselves get in trouble for some trivial BS. there are no amount of "prohibition" you can make that can fix that. and that's not taking into consideration the systems/associations/originations that are supposed to be in working order but are in the gutter night now, like how corrupt the police have been portraying them selves lately, or CPS (thinking of the David Roman incident).

Gasoline and zippo lighters are legal. Also skateboards are legal and I saw a man die from being struck in the head. Super deadly. I’ve also seen many other people seriously injured from skateboard strikes, typically at minimum a broken arm or concussion with significant blood loss.
I think the restrictions on pepper spray are to protect police at least in part.
