- In this video, Chad Ashley shows Nick Campbell how to use the new Random Walk Sub Surface Scattering in the latest version of Redshift for Cinema 4D. It’s super easy to use and creates incredibly realistic translucent effects in your C4D Renders.

For anyone that imported the statue and did NOT get the same amount of subsurface scattering, the issue most likely is that the scale you brought the statue in at is 100 times larger than Nick did, effecting the amount of scattering you see on the statue.
Thanks! Scale really matters a lot when messing with SSS.
As always, fantastic info and easy to understand. I just love how Redshift and C4D is evolving, settings that used to be so complex is becoming so easy now. Great job sharing.
Thanks guys! So happy this feature was finally implemented in a more user friendly way.
Thank you very much!! GSG You are so fantastic!
Missed your videos! Keep em coming!
More to come!
Got into visual effects cos of you guys. Glad to see y’all still at it.
Glad to hear it!
Damn, this short tip about RGB 0...1 just made my day! Awesome as always! Thanks you guys!
Thanks! I love that trick.
Anisotropy usually means the direction of the light, so positive means it transports the light in the same direction as the light source, and negative the opposite direction of the light source.
Thanks!
super doper!
I finally understood🤣 Thank very much!
Thanks for watching!
You really love your reds hahahah.
Great tutorial
Thank u soo much. i was wondering y it didnt soft the sa for as well
It does look great, but I haven't been using it because of seriously higher render times than the legacy sss.
I'm waiting for the redshift release where the entire material is just one slider labeled "look good"
😂😂😂
we all do, man, maybe some day it comes. but do you mean the grade between "s*itty looking one and good" or "good and fu*king awesome looking one" ?
Interesting, despite Octane, for instance, does that since a while... is Redshift faster to solve SSS?
There is a big catch though with the new SSS and GI. It only properly works with Brute Force and with Irradiance Cache it looks terrible and completely wrong. And so far it does not seem like they have any inclination to fix this. The only workaround is to enabled the old Subsurface Scatter GI, which somewhat brings it closer to how it should look but that will loose a bit of the fidelity that the sss otherwise would have.
Hopefully we will get a fix to that sooner, rather than later.
hey Nick, you are always in touch with the guys at Maxon, could you perhaps bring this up?
They mentioned at siggraph an even betterrr, updated SSS is coming in the next RS update as well as blackbody emission on VDBs and material stacking🤘🏼
czcams.com/video/wGD4Zfw476E/video.html elly from Maxon did an in depth tutorial on it as well and mentions future update 😊
Sweet! Can't wait!
I have the latest redshitf/c4d. I dont see any random walk or weight in the subsurface category
if you want to add leaf details where would you plug it in :(
IMPRESSIVE... maybe I will have to make the shift to redshift finally... No pun intended... I feel Maxon has been forcing it on me for years... I should just give in already... Great Videos as always
Recently switched from octane, Its been great so far 🤍
@@cia5374Are you getting similar results? Have you also tested Arnold GPU?
as someone that uses C4D professionally, I just stick to VRAY as my render engine :)
Random question - Will there be a future update to allow the shaders to be directly imported into the Node Editor?
Hi James. That is definitely on our radar to add to the Greyscalegorilla Library workflow.
that is useful thank you so mush
I have a question what is your GPU card
Dual 3090s. Here are more specs from our machines. greyscalegorilla.com/choosing-puget-a-system-built-for-3d/
great share octane tips share

@@Greyscalegorilla Thanks Architecture Rendering Tips Share Sir
can we get a video for subsurface scattering materials in c4d & octane 😭
where is the phase option?
Is it still nowhere near Arnold SSS ?
So is Redshift now more realistic than Arnold?
I am a big fan and love everything you do but after finally adding Redshift, after years of pushing it off... wow it renders slow even with a rtx3090 its taking a few minutes to get one frame at low quality... I will have to review some of your render tutorials again but so far I have been really disappointed with render speeds... I am coming from a standard and physical CPU workflow with a threadripper though... I will keep playing with it...
I guarantee tNice tutorials - I am going to pursue soft one way or another. It is my dream to make art that inspires people and shows them so
sa bruh
just woke up in hospital.
Still very slow compared to Cycles, RS should be seriously revised IMO. Especially for displacement usage, what pain in neck.
Sounds like you are happy with Cycles. That's good.
@@Greyscalegorilla Did I say that? Someone deleted the text, can't remember.

See u later 😂😂😂😂
