- "Take Me Back To Eden" by @Sleep-Token truly is a masterpiece - a great mix of Metal and Pop (and everything in between), great hooks and a very creative and intriguing concept, turning the band into something much bigger than the sum of its parts.
The drum parts here are actually more challenging than they first appeared to me during my first listens. As with most of my covers I took some liberties while hopefully maintaining the original vibe of the track.

Oh man, I play exactly your style : open handed on a right-hand kit, but leads with right on the ride and some other cymbals. I am a lefty novice and it was how I taught myself. Recently decided to get a kit and get more serious about drumming. You rarely get folks play like this on YT or anywhere else. This was very encouraging to watch - as I often struggle to make the "odd" style work 😅
Hey, cool that you recognized the open handed playing - I started playing the drums pretty early.. I was like 2 or 3 years old, and no one taught me how to do it. So playing with my left hand on the Hi Hat and switching the leading hand for the Ride seemed to make sense. It was years later when I recognized, that this isn't the "normal" way of playing - but by then I had it pretty much down in my muscle memory..
It was even more years later (like in my early 20s), where I had to put in some extra hours of practice to actually get my Snare hits consistent with both hands, which is very important if you want to be a serious session drummer.. so it's really the hard way. But I´m still happy about the Open-Handed Approach.
Love it man yeah, I noticed how consistent you are on the snare with both hands, kudos to your hard work. 🫡I am 38 and am a novice, so yeah I don't know if it's the way that will get me to a decent place quickly but I sure am enjoying it 😅

Hey, der Song hat echt viel Spaß gebracht beim Üben! Die Parts zu lernen stellte sich dann als etwas schwieriger heraus als zunächst gedacht - II hat hier schon einige schöne Details drin, die ich natürlich auch featuren wollte - auch wenn es kein komplettes Note-für-Note Cover ist. Ich mache hier auch ein wenig mein Ding.

Man All I can say is keep in drumming man!!! I grew up in the 80’s and there were a few really good , Portnoy, Peart first of course, Aldridge is a solid drummer, but man II reminds me of Rhoads on the guitar, never lost interest and always learning more. This guy is a legit badass on the drums and totally did it Justice covering it! Awesome job man and appreciate you sharing your talent! Great band , great drummer, great song , Well done !

Here I´m using a Remo Controlled Sound - with a white dot, so it looks like a Ambassador Head. I remember having the snare tuned pretty high for this one. Cheers!!

I‘m using a Audix D6 on the kick, D2 on the 3 rack Toms and D4 on the Floor Toms. The mics are not too expensive, but they’re doing a decent job!

What exercises did you do to develop your left hand? Im open handed as well and need to develop my left lol
I have a classical background so I practiced many snare etudes as a kid. During my studies I worked a lot with "Stick Control" and "Accents and Rebounds" by Lawrence Stone and then went on to really focus on the Moeller Technique with Claus Hesslers "Drumming Kairos" and Jim Chapins "Speed Control Power & Endurance - the Moeller Technique is what really amplified my hand technique in the last 8 years or so.
