I started in chemistry before switching to Geology and graduating this last May. Just landed a job in West, Texas. My employer and the other handful of interviews I had all mentioned how the field is now accepting more environmental science / other STEM degrees enter because most companies have extensive training programs. Mine for instance will be roughly 3 weeks.
A chemist is perfectly capable to learn about mudlogging and enter the career - Geologists just have a easier time because they have been exposed to most of the information/concepts before.
