LYRICS
Prepare the diving bell
It's time to take this low again
I sink into myself, low
No need for farewell
I know you always understand
Sorry there's no place for you inside the solitude
Just stay up here until I'm back again
I swear I'll be there for you,
I swear I'll follow through.
Stay the course and keep the ship manned
I was certain if I fell through the bottom,
You'd be happy just to float here on your own
I was never quite prepared for the long ride, oh,
Away, away, away alone.
Oh, this wasn’t in my plans
Abandoned ship and headed for the sand
Oh, the albatross crash-lands.
I’ve got the sinking feeling that I never can go home
If I stare into the abyss
Will it stare into me?
If I stare into the abyss
Will it stare into me?
If I stare into the abyss
Will it stare into me?
If I stare into the abyss
Will it stare into me?
Prepare the diving bell
Maybe for just a spell again
As far as I can tell
Oh, you knew me too well
I miss you there when I descend
Sorry there's no place for you inside the solitude
Just stay up here until I'm back again
Oh, this wasn’t in my plans
Abandoned ship and headed for the sand
Oh, the albatross crash-lands.
I’ve got the sinking feeling that I never can go home
If I stare into the abyss
Will it stare into me?
If I stare into the abyss
Will it stare into me?
If I stare into the abyss
Will it stare into me?
If I stare into the abyss
Will it stare into me?
In my mind, endless sea
Calling from the bottom but you don’t hear me
Send your line down to me
Meet me on the surface
I will never leave
In my mind, endless sea
Calling from the bottom but you don’t hear me
Send your line down to me
Meet me on the surface
I will never leave
Just one time, all I need
Calling from the bottom but you don’t hear me
Stuck in time, stuck in me,
Broken on the bottom like a refugee

The sudden end is more terrifying than any symbolism in this video
I'm serious! Starset's known for long ending parts.
The song on the album is actually the last song on the album and is actually 5 minutes long, they just removed the outro for this video
@@Preets998 Really? Neat.
@@Jacob_G9 yep, you can actually hear the full song on Spotify now too
@@Preets998 or on the youtube auto generated video
Jacob A. Gallant actually the end of the spotify version is pretty creepy
"In my mind, endless sea, calling from the bottom but you don't hear me." This is how depression can feel for a lot of people; screaming yet no one can hear you. Endless thoughts that require an outside force to save you from.
He was trapped in his head. As his blood was changing and he couldnt stop it
Very true. Ive dealt with depression all my life and having a bad episode right now. My girlfriend always asks why. But i never know why.
I think of depression on way more of sinking to the bottom, there is really no scream, even muffled, more like helpless descend
@@clayman478 Yep hard to know why you are depressed thats why people go to therapy, and you should listen to I prevail if you don't already do, especially breaking down, I believe it is the one about depression. ^^
Sad thing is that no one understands.
Actor: "So I have this disease where I cant blink.."
Starset: "You're hired."
The perfect counter of Angels (don't blink!)
disease where he can't blink lol 😂
Actually if you don't blink for a long time then you will cry xD
I think he might have Gilbert's Syndrome and there is nothing he can do about it but hold in the pain and inflammation all over his body and mind because there are barely any doctors who really care or can try to help him get the supportive care he needs. So he slowly erodes in silence with no medical support.
Literally all that happened was probably a guy walking in, sitting down, and staring at the wall like he just fried his brain with some whacked out drug for a quarter minute.
This song left me absolutely breathless.
after hearing that "oh", melted my whole cardiovascular system
@@takenspark546 it blew the flesh off of my bones
Breathtaking
This song left me thinking is this album actually going to be good???
Makes me sad
I usually like the heavier stuff, but holy hell this is QUALITY
Dude the riffs at the second half are GOLD
@@ununpentium2255 YES the second half is soooo good my jaw dropped
3 songs and yet I haven't heard a screamo but I have no regrets
Definitely! Quality is really high.
@@Wizardry04 MANIFEST!!! There you got your scream (pls for fucks sake don't call it screamo that's ultra cringe)
Dustin’s voice is always flawless, but this song highlighted it. I love Starset
Java Joe Always flawless? I’ve seen these guys in concert, and he is anything but. Sorry not sorry
Bassistking I don’t think you’ve seen them as of late on the Divisions tour, Dustin sounds amazing now compared to when Starset was started.
Ok I confess I seen them during Vessels, but he certainly was the weakest link at the time.
@@Bassistking I saw them live in early march and I can tell you he's improved a lot!! Sometimes it's still hard for him to keep reaching those really high parts over and over again but I must admit singing Starset songs takes a LOT of power hahah. But yeah it sounded really good when I saw them :) (I agree though, during Vessels his live vocals weren't,,, the best. I admire how much he trained and improved)
@@Bassistking you are very, very accurate but he definitely has improved over time. No singer is "flawless" imo. His voice in production though sounds very good with this style of music
The sound of Starset is evolving and never disappoints. There will never be a band with such a place in my heart as them
I mostly agree, but the only legitimate issue with this song Id argue is how abrupt of an ending it had. That's just my opinion tho. Still love the song and especially the chorus
Marshall Francies I agree, I don’t really like songs with abrupt endings but that alone can’t automatically make a song bad.
@@DJZO1203 I know. I really like the song overall and the chorus is probably my favorite part from all the singles released from Starset recently from their new album (which my previous #1 was the bridge of Manifest), I'm just stating that I thought the end was too abrupt. It's an opinion.
Marshall Francies yeah I know, I didn’t mean to imply that I was arguing. The chorus is really good in this song but I still think manifest is their best single so far.
Them and breaking Benjamin ♥️
Never has addiction or depression been so succintly and beautifully described. This song hits so hard.
Its amazing
Touching every string of soul
Diving Bell was my favorite song that I could listen to forever and ever. I felt like this song was just hauntingly beautiful and captivating.
All what I knew was that the song resonated deeply within me. They captured the feelings I had no words yet to explain.
(I'm good now. I was just in a toxic relationship that stiffled me)
I'm crying... this wasn't in my plans.

A song that really makes me cry is Nightwish, Ghost love score live. This is my 2nd favorite band to starset

Everytime I try to talk to my friends and family about how amazing this band is and how incredible and transforming their music is, they shut me down. This band has been in my life for years and every new song I hear heals my heart a little more. I am so beside myself with this song and it brought me to tears. Whenever I hear his voice, I'm reminded I'm not alone in my pain. Much love to starset, to Dustin, and to this fucking amazing community of lovers.
I honestly don't understand how Starset is not a household name. They write so many super unique and poppy catchy songs.
Sometimes things are ahead of their time...Starset is one of those gems.
I shall support you!
bro get new friends. or play it in your car while you drive them, they can't do shit. Driver always decides the music
In the same boat to this day, honestly. Been trying to get people to listen to them since the first album. Thankfully, my favorite person listens to them too so that's enough for me.
Wait... Why do they shut you down?
2:51... "In my mind, endless sea, calling from the bottom but you don't hear me"... I feel that so deep within my heart...

There are some from last albums. And sadly, this won't be the exception.
"He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster.
And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee."
-Nietzsche
I love this
What is that english? I've never heard something like that.
@@firesterop6423 Friedrich Nietzsche was a German philosopher and writer. As for the English it's early modern English which was spoken around 14th/15th century.
Thanks. I didn't know that.
Varun #StayRaged i absolutely like in how many ways starsets songs are connected, Monsters lyrics „from the monster you’ve made me“ also remind me of this. Also both are about relationships I guess. Probably coincidence, but it still like the connection.
Starset helped me cope when my partner passed away. The nights I lay crying with them as my only comfort and the days when I had to face the world alone. I got to start a new life and will finally get to see them live in October! You're the melodies that will never be silenced. Love you guys. ❤️
I’m deeply sorry for that. I miss someone who is never coming too. It’s hell, and this song so perfectly described in lyrics and sound what that feels like. I hope you are well.
This is one of those songs that just sums up depression so well for me. It's like a feeling of sinking a d drowning, but there is so much emotion that you aren't sure if you can swim through it to the surface. Then there are the times where you are fine and then suddenly you are in the throws of depression being tossed around.
The feeling of relief I get from listening to this song is beyond describable.

I'm here to break the system
2:52 onwards gives me absolute chills. The chorus is great, but this is the best part of the song for me. You can hear the raw emotion in Dustin's voice here. Easily one of the best songs that they have written. I have a feeling this is going to be my favorite song of the album.
Madi Schwem 2:52 onward might be his best vocal performance for me...
@@twinkcatTTV Absolutely agreed.
9 months later and the whole album has released, is it still your favorite? Personally, Diving Bell has been my favorite song as soon as I heard half of it on kingdom leaks 2 days before the official release, and that hasn’t changed at all.
@@elib4400 Yeah, definitely still my favorite. Don't get me wrong, a few songs come close, like Trials and Solstice, but nah, Diving Bell is a song I will never get tired of. By far the best song on the album in my opinion--a damn good album at that.

His singing has improved a lot over the course of the albums. It's like watching your son grow up
Exactly! I'm extremely proud at Starset for how far they've come. I can't wait for the rest of the songs to come out
Sadly it's called auto-tune. This is the first album I've been able to tell, but I guess it's just what the industry does. I still enjoy the music
He also mentioned (i believe it was a facebook comment) that these songs were done in a lower key that was easier to maintain and less strenuous on his voice apparently.
@@ArawnFenixTSI it makes sense. I bet his voice would sound better and thank him when he sings live

“I’ve got the sinking feeling that I never can go home...” That line hits hards as I am about to cross oceans and know I will be gone for years alone. And “I’m sorry there’s no place for you.” So at the same time it feels right.
How are you with this pandemic mate?
Did you make it home?
Anyone notice?
Manifest has the feeling of an upcoming battle, like victory and defeat are both equally possible outcomes for the future.
Where the Skies End has a triumphant and victorious sound to it.
Diving Bell has a much more defeated and desperate sound to it.
Also:
Manifest - Base
Where the Skies End - High
Diving Bell - Low
Very interesting, this album does give out a lot of mixed vibes, like are they victorious, or defeated, does he fall into the darkness, or rise up a hero? It's confusing.
This album is a continuation of the events in Transmissions. There's a whole story arc behind these songs, I recommend.

Question, could “keep the shipment” actually be “keep the ship manned”?
Also, could “the hours lost crash lands” actually be “the albatross crash lands”? An albatross is a sea bird (basically a seagull) that actually has a metaphor that talks about an albatross being a psychological burden that feels like a curse! I could be super wrong though. @@es0teric76 when did you see them live?
Two years has passed and this still is such a masterpiece
Nearly 3 years now and still a banger
Imo the heaviest lyrics the song have to offer is this line.
"Prepare the diving bell, maybe just for a spell, again."
It seems to symbolize a further descent into a crushing depression and finding an unfortunate comfort within it, causing the person to be content, or even have a false sense of joy in cutting themself off.
And then there's the addressed party, being a friend or family or lover, that seems to be content with this behavior as well. Perhaps allowing the speaker to isolate for some time is good for them, but it seems that they're unaware enablers of self destructive behavior. "Calling from the bottom but you don't hear me," it seems that a deep part of the speaker knows that this isolation is bad and is calling for help, but the addressed party doesn't, so to say, pull up the diving bell and decompress the speaker from this reckless dive.
And, "you'd be happy just to float here on your own," makes it seem like the speaker doesn't see the addressed party as actually caring about the speaker's wellbeing, or otherwise that they don't know how to actually help. The albatross crashlands may be a resort to substance abuse or other illegal/immoral behavior. Unplanned, leading to a sinking feeling of exile from home, maybe that's why the addressed are happy to float alone, ignoring cries from the bottom: they aren't prepared to rescue someone from a shipwreck and so gave up on our speaker after he went too far with his dive.
director: how much blue colour do you want?
Starset: yes

Literally the only second of the album that I didn't like, that masterpiece deserved a blazing send off.
@@reaperthacreeper4614 Actually the "g" is my favorite part in the whole album. The tension builds up all along the way, and right when you expect it to burst... the sound just cuts off. The song just throws you back into reality. It's the moment when you "crash land" after "heading for the sand" for a while. It's only this moment when you realize how much you have been absorbed into the music, the "abyss". It just leaves so much to think about, and the real ending to the album's narrative is what happens in your mind in the time gap between Diving Bell and the outro.
The outro is not really an ending to the album's narrative, but an epilogue from a different perspective (hence the difference voice) and a prologue to what's next as well - one that tells you to "wake me when the new day comes", whether it be a new album, another song in your playlist, or a repetition of the album.
The narrative focuses on the BMI and immersing yourself into a fantasty, just as the album immerses you into its amazement, and then you switch the BMI and "wake up" and come back to your own reality of your life

Omg, the ending. How it goes from calm to, Oblivion, and then to EVERYTHING! If I could cry, this song would lead me to it.
It stirs emotion of depression and the despair of solitude and the falsified feeling of futility of reaching out. Personifies the voices of the darker recesses of the mind which should never be headed... Yet it resonates quite powerfully.
Either way, this song is WAY awesome! Got it on constant repeat.

These lyrics coming from his voice are making me cry.
For the meaning of this song, it tells about marine experiences. A man was going to go inside the "diving bell" to descend to the bottom of the sea while letting his loved one staying on the surface. As he was not willing to dive, he imagined what would be like if he was gone. His mind was troubled for the journey ahead and his loved one as well. This is metaphorical; the bottom of the sea is probably the addiction/depression/loneliness. His loved one is probably what he cares and loves the most. To me, the song is about his mind on "divisions" about his cravings and his precious things. What a depressed yet so beautiful song
I dig metaphors... I have a different take ... I have oftentimes wondered why I can't keep things even... Relationships especially.. I can care about someone deeply.. Love them.. but I feel misunderstood and seperate myself from them when this becomes obvious ... so I sink into myself - low. I go deep into a myopic depression whilst they might feel insecurity feeling its because I dont care for them .. calling from the bottom but you dont hear me ..I love them though .. I don't feel like they are hurting when I take a break .. I feel like they are more relieved... but I cant even explain why im hurting.. just - prepare the diving bell .. I relate to it personally
@@7star7storm7 Starset has one of the best metaphors in their lyrics. Ricochet and Frequency have the same embedded meaning like this as well. The song having closest meaning to Diving Bell is Unbecoming
@@springnuance7048 thank you I will chek them out for sure 😊

"Cry out loud: for he is a god; either he is lost in thought, or he has wandered away, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened."
I still haven't recovered my emotions from Vessels and they release this beautiful piece of art, give me a break
At this rate, this music video will beat where the skies end in views. Not complaining though, I love the two songs!
Hard to imagine it's been over 2 years since this song came out.. damn time flies
"In my mind, endless see. Calling from the bottom but you don't hear me " this verse makes me so sad. Every time.
I miss you Starset.
7 demonstrations was not enough.
Actor:"Can I just do nothing and stare in camera?"
Starset:"...hmmm,this'll be amazing!"(best band I ever hear)
Hes staring into the abyss...leave him be
This song make my soul burning... In this bad moment of my life this is just needed... Thank you starset, as always
Every time I hear this song, especially the last bridge, it makes me want to cry. The simultaneous feelings of hope and despair that I get from this song are just beautiful
The orchestra, the belted notes, the lyrics, and the music video are all amazing and this is quickly becoming my favorite Starset song! I've been listening to it on repeat for days now
In echoing previous comments, Starset can't make a bad song! I love this one too!
When any other Band releases a new album : Their fans gets hapy
When StarSet releases their new album : Stars Evaporate and these Stars are their fans
Is that a threat?
@@ASH4Ix why would it be?
DIVING BELL is my favorite STARSET. So sad and emotional, but it makes you feel like you're not alone.
Definitely one of my favorite songs on the album. The mix of super heavy and super soft in this is gorgeous. These guys never disappoint.
Prepare the diving bell. We're going deep into this album yet again.
I like all the songs in this album but this...
This will always be one of my favorites.
The sudden end of the song gives me chills every time. Imo, it goes to show how easy it is for someone who’s depressed( as this is a song about depression), to abruptly end it all
Some bands make music. Starset makes art.
Agreeee
Beautiful, as always! I L♡VE you, Starset!~ 🌸💗🌸💗🌸
Idk why but this band has always been my go to when I’m feeling down or depressed.
