  • THE WORLD'S GREATEST AIRCRAFT. CONCORDE'S MOST EXPERIENCED PILOT. THE DEFINITIVE STORY.
For over a quarter of a century, Concorde was the world's only successful supersonic airliner, carrying passengers at speeds faster than a rifle bullet - and at heights that provided a glimpse of the edge of space.
As Chief Concorde Pilot for British Airways, Mike Bannister knows her like no one else. From displaying Concorde with the Red Arrows over London to landing her back at Heathrow in her last scheduled flight in October 2003, he has seen Concorde's full journey.
Now he shares the inside story of this unique and awe-inspiring aircraft for the first time, including his role in the investigation to uncover what really happened when Concorde fell to earth on 25th July 2000.
Loved and missed like no other aeroplane, Concorde is part celebration, part history, part detective story and part courtroom drama.

A fantastic story told by a fantastic pilot and Concorde enthusiast. The real truth about the Concorde Crash, the ignorance of Air France and the fight to find the truth is really interesting and really shows just how poorly the French dealt with their Concorde and investigations. A must read for anyone with an interest in Concorde.

@01:50 Nope - partly built and fully assembled in Toulouse -- just like the A380 is today.

Mike Bannisters book details the true causes of AF 4590 crash. The missing spacer between the shear bushes the initiator, the stresses on the left bogie causing the first piece of metal penetrating fuel tank 2. The peak stress at the division of the old and new runway extension. Veer or skid to the left 700 metres well before the DC-10 wear strip. The overload of fuel in tank no.5. The loading of newspapers and excess pax luggage not being recorded on the load-sheet - conveniently the original load sheet went missing. In fact that was hidden. A true coverup by the investigating French prefect - on whose orders? Like the UK AAIB being prevented from examining the DC10 strip that had been discarded on the right side of the runway.
That was a handy coverup of the other failures to obey SOPs by the flight crew. Funny how that DC10 strip was “lost” on the right hand side of the runway, was said to have been run over by the left hand (port) bogie to damage the tyre. Then the DC10 strip was found back on the right side of the runway. UK AAIB were prevented from examining this strip, no doubt no trace of a Specially constructed Concorde tyre could be found on that DC10 strip because it was never involved in fact.
Then the unilateral shut down of engine 2 before 400 feet had been reached.
Then the undercarriage failure to retract using the manual override.
Etc etc. cover up almost as good as the Air New Zealand TE901 cover up by that airline and the Chief Accident Inspector by his political master, the Prime Minister Muldoon.
What influence did Chirac have on the BEA intransigent investigation and that of the French examining Prefect?
Even now, there are still lectures talks etc that include the key factor being the DC-10 strip cutting the tyre. It was not, the tyre disintegrated due to the side stress of the out of line bogie. It just happened level with the position of the DC10 strip that was on the other side of the runway.
The political and legal parallels with the Air NZ TE901 coverups are there for all to see.

Brooklands is a disgrace. Leaving valuable museum archives in the open is unacceptable. I’ve been to Yeovilton and Filton where they do things properly.

Brooklands, it’s staff and it’s volunteers are some of the most hard working, dedicated and knowledgeable groups of enthusiasts I’ve ever encountered at a museum, not only that but they keep all of the aircraft, bikes, and cars almost exclusively in near to working order if not completely working order. The fact that you’d call this a disgrace says a lot more about you than anything else. If you have space to house a collection of about 20 commercial aircraft I’d recommend you inform them, however i doubt your mothers shed is big enough for you and a plane. Failing that if you have any more issues with the way they keep their beautiful collection then sign up, put a lanyard on and volunteer yourself, you freeloading gobshite.

Brooklands don't have any hangars big enough to accommodate Concorde. Not to mention that it's a private museum, they rely entirely on visitors and donations to support the museum and staff. Brooklands have hardworking staff and volunteers who do all they can to make sure their exhibits are in good condition. In an ideal world, Brooklands would love to have a hangar for Concorde, but they don't have one big enough for her nor can they afford to build a new one.
But seeing you think you know better than they do, then give them a call them and you tell them what they should be doing. If think you know how to run a musuem better than the Brooklands Musuem do, they'll be happy to listen to you.
