I was taken aback at the start of this video to see such neglected and overgrown grave stones…in my ignorance I have never heard of Nunhead cemetery, and as the camera panned to some graves and memorials, that had been cleared I have to say I have never seen such beautiful carved stone work, mausoleums etc, and hearing tge story of abandonment by original cemetery owners and then all the damage done by bombing during the war, my heart sank as to what might be left! The church or chapel, currently fenced off looked stunningly beautiful with all its carved stone work, and then you just caught a glimpse of roof timbers only, so realise bombing took the roof but not the entire building which is good to know. I am so very glad and applaud all the volunteers who are tackling such a large project clearing and restoring the cemetery to its former glory, and am so pleased lottery money is helping with that. This was very well narrated ,Thankyou David, and I hope another visit to see its progress can be filmed in the not too distant future. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💐🥰

I wish there was Preservation Orders on these Victorian cemeteries, wherever they are, we will never see the like again if they are not preserved. Good to know the Lottery fund has donated , excellent videos, thank you Suzanne

I live in Western Australia where they bulldoze the old monuments and dig new graves between the old, in the walkways(never wide enough)- and let the families build monstrous monuments over the old. The families are devastated, naturally, and the history of the state destroyed. All this without consultation. Preservation Orders are essential. The alternative is greed.
