About Dolby Atmos:
Imagine if there were a way to connect with music at its fullest capacity and creative potential - not the way most people hear music today, but a version that pulls you into a song to reveal what was lost with traditional recordings. Dolby Atmos does just that. Whether it’s a complex harmony of instruments placed around a listener, the unleashing of a legendary guitar solo, a massive bass drop that washes over you, or the subtle breath a singer takes, Dolby Atmos gives music more space and the freedom to unleash every detail and emotion as the artist intended.

Thanks Jake, wow what a learning curve, very useful video, thanks again.
Thank you Jake, you're an OG explaining it all in this video, really, really, all the real things we need to know, cheers man. I'm excited for this format!
thank you very much. I'm very excited to begin this journey.
Great video! Really showcases how easy it is to get into Atmos in Logic Pro and get involved in immersive audio! Thank you!
One quick note about Trim & Downmix settings where pretty much standard practice nowadays is that the Surround and Height Trims should be set to 0.
Also, the importance of loudness I believe was a bit understated in the video. The -18dB integrated and the -1dBTP ceiling are really important and if not adhered to any submission to distributors will get rejected.
And one final note about codecs and binaural metadata: Tidal on Android uses AC4-IMS as the delivery codec which does use the Dolby Binaural Render Mode metadata. Tidal on Apple devices uses DD+JOC but disregards the Dolby Binaural metadata and just uses Apple's Spatial Audio for headphone playback, something which holds true for all Apple Devices.
That's why Apple has also included a Spatial Audio Binaural monitoring option (listed as "Apple Renderer" in the Monitoring drop down menu in the Atmos plugin under Binaural) so you can monitor how the mix will sound on Apple devices. Note, when you choose "Apple Renderer" instead of "Dolby Renderer" you'll see the Dolby Binaural Metadata get greyed out.
great video!! Thanks!!!
Excellent video, Jake. I’m confused in the Binaural view, when you’re choosing Off, Near, Mid, Far, are those distances going to be perceived in the final ADM BWF, or are they only preferences for how we hear the distances during mixing with headphones?
This is a really good demonstration of the Dolby Atmos capabilities in Logic Pro. One thing that you never addressed though is how you would change the downmix and trim settings. This doesn’t appear to be possible in Logic Pro even though it’s recommended to change the trim to 0.00 for all downmixes and to use Direct Render for the 5.1 Downmix control. So, how would you go about doing this if you’re mixing in Logic Pro?
have you ever turned midi track into 3d objects in Logic and found that they go out of synch (even though bed tracks are fine)?
Great video, thanks for all the information and time you took to make this video. Im new to Atmos, and I dont have 7.1.4 speakers in my room, so I will be using my headphones. I have a couple of questions: 1- When I open the master 'Atmos' plugin on logic, the binaural is greyed out, I only get Dolby Render and Apple Render, how do I set it up for the Binaural to be available (as I will be using headphones to mix)? 2- My AD/DA is an Apollo X16 and my DAC is a Cranesong Avocet 2a (stereo), I will use the Cranesong to monitor via headphones the Atmos 'Binaural' mix. How do I set it up to be able to monitor binaural on my system? Many thanks
Great!
Jake, what is the best way to get -1 True Peak and -18 LUFS for Atmos mixes? These are Apple’s requirements for Apple Music.
Thank You
nice using this thanks
Good video. I see that you were sending some content to the LFE using a bus direct to the monitoring output. Am I right in thinking that this would not send that content to the renderer? How do you deal with this. Thanks.
Hi sir can we use the same concepts to mix for movie also... I mean cinema....?
GOOD JOB,THANKSSS
In the dynamic object panning, you took the camera away and I didnt get to see how you finalize panning.
Please try and ensure when you start a process you finish it before you changed view so we can see how its done completely.
Now Im between Latch and Read, how you made that switch I dont know.
How will you have to run speaker set up for this kinda mixing
For music is it advisable to use. 5.1 bed or can still use a higher like 7.1 ?
Do you need to so your stereo mix first before going in to dobby?
Stereo mix I mean is Eq, compression, saturation, delay and reverb
No, but it will make the surround mix much easier if you have already mixed in stereo.
Is there any Mastering happening after this?
That was a great one. Good information. So i guess Dolby binaural is was better then the Apple one, if its only a binaural version for StereoMastering, right?
Will I need the Dolby atmos renderer to send to my label, who then will send it onto Apple music?
How is mastering performed on an Atmos mix?
On most Atmos mixes, there isn't any "mastering" due to how objects are routed, whether you are using the one built into logic, or the external renderer. Dolby does have a mastering suite that gives you more flexibility if you want to make additional changes overall, but where there are certain loudness requirements it almost isn't super necessary to have mastering for Atmos in most cases.
@@alex_ayerssir can we use the same concept of mixing to mix movie in headphones and give it as a Dolby mix without. RMU setup only in headphones and 5.1 monitering .... Tq
You do know that the apple renderer completely ignores the "Near Far Mid Off" meta settings don't you!
Could you sounds mire snide?
AND ITS ALL YOUR FAULT!!!! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!!!!
Just kidding 😂😂😂😂
Please do Mixing Atmos in Nuendo as well. Thanks
