For those wondering like me, he's playing what's called an Appalachian Dulcimer. It's the exact instrument you hear in so much "western" country and has a very unique sound.

Its actually a Weissenborn guitar, Which is the brand name of a lap slide guitar. I was very moved by his performance so I started to do some research on him and even purchase an album. He’s really good.

Depuis le début je suis FAN inconditionnel du batteur de l'émission je trouve qu'à lui seul il donne des couleur et du rythme a cette émission et dieu saie que des fois les candidats sont mauvais il arrive a les rendre agréable et rythmique. Il est juste un génie avec un grand G. Un grand merci a se Monsieur.

Le batteur s'appelle Jean-Philippe FANFANT, issu d'une famille entière de musiciens antillais (père, oncles, cousins, Thierry le frère est bassiste) depuis des générations et très connus ici dans la musique antillaise. Il sait jouer tous les styles et a accompagné des artistes internationaux.

You know someone is IN LOVE with music in this show when he's just singing, not noticing if any couch turns for him. You just go with the flow. That's an Artist!

atveus It is not that he's not noticing the chair turning but actually when you play on a lapsteel, lapslide or a dobro it's like you're playing on a violin with a chunk of metal to hit a specific note or chord... So when you combine it with singing.... it becomes very tricky as 3 or 4 mm off and you're sounding off...
On a guitar, you have frets... so when you play a chord or a note, you basically have 2 good centimeters to place your fingers in between 2 frets... That difference makes a huge difference

C'était vraiment incroyable. Le talent artistique avec le dulcimer était assez incroyable. Incroyable, incroyable.
Quelle satisfaction pour un artiste que ta chanson soit reprise de longues années après pour en faire quelque chose de neuf et vivifiant. La poésie d'un instant continue à vivre à travers le temps. Et même si son anglais n'est pas parfait, Will fait passer tellement d'émotions que je re découvre cette chanson monumentale. C'est de l'or en barre pour mes oreilles. Bravo pour cette interprétation, encore encore!

Even in America that mix of styling (at least truly good) is not super common (at least in my experience). I don’t think they over reacted, I think people saying they are aren’t music fans so much as genre fans, meaning if it’s outside of their preferred genre(s) they either don’t like it based on that. Or they don’t necessarily know what they are talking about. Just my opinion.
