I rode this route for many years when I studied at Temple University. I got my master's degree in the summer and I used to ride this train to North Broad and then to the newly opened Temple University station. I think I have the route memorized. I remember the old green rattlers ( I know I am dating myself), and they were downright awful. Thank God for the Silverliners.
At 11:31, as you go under Old Welsh Rd., the 6 trolley (ended 1958) would cross over the Reading line there en route to the Willow Grove Park amusement park (closed 1975).
Warminster station opened in 1974.
My Dad took me on that around that time, from Roslyn to Warminster. Makes sense now. 👍😁
You can tell this is a Silverliner 5 because the Silverliner 4s don't have passenger seating at the very front; the engineer's cab goes the full width of the car. On the 5s the cab is only on the right side.
Thanks for the memories 💚
This line used to be double-tracked almost all the way into Roslyn.
Great video! I live around the Philly area, and was always curious about this line when I first saw the single track crossing a few years ago. Looks like there were portions that were once double track? Thanks for uploading!
Yes, at least at Willow Grove, Hatboro (which used to be the end of the line), and Warminster. On the weekends the extra trains are parked on the 2nd track at Warminster. The extra track at Hatboro is not used unless there's equipment needed there for work being done; it actually just ends (you can see it in the video), unlike Warminster's which merges with the other track. The double track north of the Willow Grove station has been used as a waiting place for one train when the one going the other direction is there too. They used to be scheduled that way, which was annoying; then someone got smart and changed the schedule so they weren't meeting there unless one was really late (which tends to make the other one late too, unfortunately).
At 15:24, you go under the NS Morrisville Line, formerly the PRR Trenton Cutoff. The PA Turnpike is just ahead of it.
I lived in Willow Grove 3× (the 2nd time for 15 years) and Warminster for 18 years.
Not a speedway but an interesting branch.
you didn't give much of a tour on this one.
Who ran the trains to New Hope?
The Reading until 1952. They owned that line until 1966. Warminster station opened in 1974. The New Hope Railroad owns the trackage past Street Rd., but the tracks are too poor of condition to have passenger service between there and Buckingham Valley.
Uncle Charlie Tracy Conrail relay Maureen Angela Cartwright finds they who pulled the daily record forgot our Alice dodgeson or Alice dodge City

Crazy to think that the line has been active since 1872. Roslyn is a very unique station. 8:10. as far as i know its thats the only crossing that has no gates. when a train comes all traffic signals go to red.
It concerns me greatly. There was a train-on-train collision there a long time ago
@DJ ENDIE09 Theres red light cameras.
@@jbreezy101That was up the track between Roslyn and Crestmont.
@@drippinglass ah might have been at crestmont. the engineer of the train heading north kept his speed at 0 and that made the accident 100x more survivable.
