I never realized how impactful that particular "observation" was. It is so discouraging as is driving me back to the disorder)

My ex - bff who has ‘depression’ is also sensitive and when she says stuff to me and I get mad she would be like, cRyBabY, but when I do something she ignores me. Its SO annoying. When she says stuff to me, its actually mean. When I say stuff to her, she gets mad and when I say sprry she still mad. She never says sorry to me. Im sounding like Im not being understanding and that she’s actually depressed, and I shouldnt be so insensitive, its true (at least in my opinion). I know that when u have depression, they’re like, I cant remember the word, but she is actually very mean to ppl. She doesnt rly understand that ppl around her has feelings too. My mom to.d me abt this, how she is, like that, and I realised. Even her mom is sad by how she doesnt rly care for other ppl. Im not trying to make depression sound like a joke. But I know for a fact that she’s just very very sad. Not depressed. I just have that gut feeling.. Idk.. I know I can be crazy and annoying sometimes, but thats okay. Everyone is like that sometimes. I have severe depression, and if someone tells me this I will tear up a little. It is because everybody I cross to just says I’m overreacting and seeking attention. The little hellos, how are you or are you okay means a lot to me. The reason I’m even more depressed is because nobody believes me.

I have to agree with this one. it may seem like the depression is gone, but it's not. it never really goes away. it just fades for a while before rearing it's ugly head to ruin your day. spikes in depression are the worst because they sap your energy and drive to really do anything. some days are definitely better than others though. it helps to have something to help make you smile, ya know? it could be a show, story, song, game, anything really. what matters is that you're still you and still trying, no matter what life seems to want to throw at you. you're stronger than anyone could ever realize honestly.
if I come off as insensitive, please know I'm trying to help how I can. depression is the worst thing ever, and I thought I'd give the motivation I wish people would understand I needed, ya know?

Don’t be sorry when it’s too late, a lot of people with depression are suicidal and you don’t want to be the cause of that. Start being helpful instead of making it worse. You all say stuff like this then get all surprised when you hear people killing themselves. Take “13 reasons why” as a prime example. We can do better. So who’s really the one not trying hard enough?

Yes some people who fake it probably do it to rationalise some of their external problems maybe, but there’s a lot of people out there man. There’s good ones and bad ones. Because of how many lives depression has taken, it should never be faked or joked about. So when you come across people who admit that they are bad, and that you can’t judge them, it’s just like, okay maybe you have some serious issues, or maybe you had a rough childhood or something, but that doesn’t mean you get to take advantage of a serious mental health condition.

Thank you for this! I was diagnosed with depression about 4 years ago and though I think I’ve conquered it, my therapist tells me I still do have some remaining feelings. I’m not saying this because I’ve come into contact with issues with these statements- in fact, I have, but it typically made me feel better or sometimes worse, but not usually. Someone telling me that ‘it’s not worth it to be sad’ actually helped me a lot, because it helped me realize that though the entire universe seems to be against me, I can still be happy, leading to where I am now in my life. But I do have quite a bit of friends who are depressed (or I suspect they are) and I can now understand what I can and cannot tell them. I can now understand that people handle situations differently and that I should avoid anything that could possibly be perceived as toxic. Thank you!
