Ngl, it’s hard to watch a movie when the main character sees a inter dimensional portal and immediately decides to mess around with it bc no normal or sane person would do that, let alone not immediately call someone to check it out or anything

Who covered the table if her brother went missing and why is the laptop unlocked and the most important note is in the trash? I'd definitely check out the other folder like Documents first. And how could you just lie asleep on the bed knowing your brother could have gone missing into some magical portal? Why is she so chill when her brother went missing (I assume for several days at least)?
The storyline bothered me a lot but the creepy part was creepy, good job on setting the ambience!
yeah the problem with a lot of hitstarts horror shit is that the characters dont give a single fuck abt anything. if i saw a interdimensional portal i would scream or have at least a little reaction! same with the shadowy intruder

holy crap! love the ambience noise. if there was a full movie of this i would 100% watch it! great job! the only thing i didnt understand was why she still had her shoes on even though she was in bed, but it did make it all the more terrifying trying to sneak through a house with those stompers!! im so interested in the lore. would love a second part. sending love from vancouver

@@punawelewele to be honest it depends who's house you're in, but most houses i've visited, yes we still take off our shoes :) except my dad who likes to have "indoor" shoes (instead of slippers for some reason)

@@punawelewele I live in the state of Connecticut and here, I've never been to a home where you were required to take your shoes off. Here, everyone just walks in wearing their shoes. They're exacted to wipe them off on the mat, but nobody ever asks guests to remove their shoes.

I know it makes for a bad movie when characters don’t make sudden stupid choices but honestly I feel I would have handled the situation the same like you see something blocking your exit why freak out? Instead be calm and quiet and hide the best you can. There’s always an escape if you don’t instantly just freak.
Well the thing is, its a void monster, what if he's super experienced in smelling? Maybe he can feel you, thinking that demons, void monster have the same senses that us, humans, is a bad bet

OMG the end tho. I was like GIRL just open it and run, if I were her I'd open It up quick be be running to my hearts content. also this was so amazing the atmosphere and everything, the lore for this well tunnel thing seems to be interesting as well.

theory: the ghost shadow thing is her brother. he said it's "hard to breathe" in the portal thing, and the entity in the room is clearly struggling to breathe. somehow the portal changed him in some way, and he was moving slowly to try and not scare his sister.
She should take her boots off. Every time she steps it makes noise.

Eh, sorry but I was waiting for a payoff that never came. A twist, a reveal, even a cheap scare... she finds a portal with vague implications of a story and then the rest is eventless hiding and creeping around trying not to be found.
Miss for me.
Yes sometimes things are scarier when you do not see them directly, but that requires building a character to care about, planting hints of how terrifying it MIGHT be, building up tension... none of that in this.
Very well produced though which is what makes it such a let down.

i liked it .all around i thought it was very well done . a unique tale the actress is very good natural believable .good suspense build at the doorknob lol .this could very easily be a feature syfy this is what its all about telling a original story and doing it well

I liked that. Although Madeline's performance wasn't convincing during the second part of the film (when she covers her mouth she kinda looks like she wants to sneeze ).
I think it's just a matter of practice and my criticism just stems from her body language throughout the film that screams "nah fam I'm not worried"
And your CGI looks way better than what Marvel is putting out these days, that's for sure

Damn it, this is why I hate short films. It sets up an interesting premise that gets me hooked and then there's never any payoff. Sure, you can say that the creature killed her, but there are a ton of questions left unanswered. What happened to her brother?What's up with the black void that he found? Why are the things living down in the tunnel hostile? What happens when he father gets there? Do creatures just continue to come out? Who covered the table if her brother disappeared in the hole? How was the opening created in the first place? What's the audio file that's with the video and the text document? How did her brother get down into the hole and back up? Who are the "we" that her brother mentions on the video? Did he have a partner who just left him down there, covered up the table and didn't bother to tell anyone?
Watching this is more frustrating than enjoyable.
Imagine if Star Wars had ended right as they fly off to attack the Death Star, but you never find out if they succeed. Or if Close Encounters had ended right as the mothership approached Devil's Tower. Or maybe Jaws ends with Brody taking aim at the tank in the shark's mouth, but the film goes to black right after he says "Smile you son of a bitch!" Would any of those movies have become the megahits that they are today if they didn't have endings?
The most common explanation given by filmmakers is that they're shopping the film around trying to get support to turn the concept into a full movie. Out of all the short films I've seen on CZcams, the number that have actually been expanded into full-length films is exactly zero.
A female explorer who can teleport to other planets. A girl roaming a post-apocalyptic world with a robot companion. A futuristic war with a steampunk design. A team of soldiers sent into a desolate city to retrieve something from the creatures who live there. A war between two factions of people with psychic powers. A person being chased through a city by robotic drones trying to kill them. A deadly real life video game where the player has to constantly die and respawn. Robotic soldiers who have actual human consciousnesses in them.
All of them have three things in common: All of them hooked me with an appealing premise and presentation, all of them aspired to become feature length films, and nothing more ever came of any of them. I can't say that it NEVER happens, but you can pretty much count the number of times short films have been expanded into full movies on the fingers of one hand.
I apologize if this comes off as hostile, or is seen as attacking you. I wouldn't be posting this if I hadn't liked the setup of this video. The problem is that it's ultimately unsatisfying, and the more short films I watch without any kind of an ending, the more reluctant I am to bother with any in the future. I go through phases where I'll watch a few, get annoyed at none of them having endings and then spend the next year avoiding them. I just started clicking on a few the other day and already I'm at the point where I'm thinking "Hmm, that looks like an interesting thumbnail, but if I watch it, it's just going to end on a cliffhanger and leave me annoyed, so why should I subject myself to that?"
I get that coming up with a satisfying ending is hard. I myself have had some interesting ideas for scenes, but can't think up any decent way to end/explain them, which is why I never tried writing any of them.
Anyway, that's my feeling on the subject...

@@taesp2484 It's not the fact that they don't become full movies that I dislike, it's that probably about 99.99% of them don't have an ending. They set up some interesting scenario, it starts building up to what looks like the best part and then it just stops. If they told a complete story, I wouldn't care if it was 90 minutes, or only 2 minutes.
You can dispute this if you want, but I am firmly convinced that the reason so many short films just stop without an ending is that the people who made them couldn't think of a satisfying way to end them. They come up with an idea that intrigues people, but then can't think of a way to end it that won't be a letdown. So they don't try, they leave the story unfinished and hope that everyone will praise them for being "ambiguous". That they can't come up with a proper ending doesn't really reflect well on their ability to write.
I get it, writing is hard, which is why I've never made anything I've written public. I've thought up a lot of ideas that make intriguing scenes, but I could never come up with any real explanation for why they're happening. Just like this film.

She opened the door but it was too late coz the noise she made while walking (I mean, the shoes) n the noise of door handle getting unlocked made that another portal ghost came to her n killed her at the very last moment.
There was no end, it just stops with the story unfinished.

She is walking back to her room after she put the cover on the table but then sees a shadow and it starts walking to her while making a sound of a old man breathing heavily
She goes to hide in a closet and the shadow walks around and then slowly stops at the closet and is opening it
As the shadow is about to see her a message goes on her phone making a sound so the monster went to it
She went out of the closet to explore like Dora the explorer until she hears the shadow coming out the room with the phone she tries walking back but the she had to open a door and obviously it opened loudly and by the time she opened it the monster was behind her then the video ended

Hi. I enjoy (and get scared from) movies that have realistic background, something you seem to be going for, however I've missed a short segment of the video and it wasn't shown again, which makes sense given it's for more observant audience. However that made me realise how important is simplicity and clarity in horror movies, at least when you want it to be presentable to mainstream audience.
I know it's ironic, myself always finding the biggest flaw with horror movies their lack of realism and basic filmmaking (horrors should be movies first), however I feel one must cater to their audience or truly believe in their work for it to have chance at succeding imo.

She rings the bell again but no money comes then she gets angry so she goes forward looking up and rings at a lot until a flash of light shines at her and we hear children laughing of joy but we don’t know how it looks like and she smiles as the camera zoom in on her face
Then it turns red and she screams while a high pitch sound is being heard somewhere and while she is screaming there are hands grabbing her face pulling her into the ground instantly
#1: Even though I believe found footage horror is the most effective subgenre, I have a big problem with the noticable shakiness of the camera for this kind of "standard" approach
#2: What is up with the "night" scenes filmed during the day with a heavy blue filter slapped onto them?
#3: Very unsatisfying ending. Too by the book (ehm, you gotta have an open ending, duh), not inspired at all
