I use an old frequent shoppers card for the duct tape.
Hello, J.R.;
To prevent flames from burning from the joint put the bottom inside the top.
That puts the outside of the joint at the bottom of the stove instead of at the top.
Also, I always put small notches in the bottom of the inner wall.
Just 2 or 3 angled cuts, about 1/8 of an inch & cut at about a 45 degree angle.
Then bend the uncut part back to make a little triangle-shaped (/\) notch.
Just a helpful tip or 2.
Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
Thanks for sharing Jon!
I really like the info content you put out, common sense and practical. Cause we know common sense isn't common anymore😮
Thank you Cynthia!
Good on you for demonstrating with proper safety equipment man
I like to make hobo stove in a Nivea cream can (or any can with a lid). Keep a book of matches in it, close the lid and tape it. I found that lighting up a hobo stove with matches is a lot easier than using a lighter.
Cheers JR for your video mate have a great day yourself and stay safe.
Thank you Rodney!
I use old prescription bottles to store fire starter by cutting in half new or used Q tips and stuff them in the bottle with Vaseline. The same bottles are also good to store pool chlorine in for hundreds of gallons of water purification. They also make good strike anywhere match water proof cases. If not your self I'm sure you have relatives that through hundreds of these bottles out a year. Reusable many times.
Yup ditto. Perfect size
Thanks for sharing your knowledge enjoyed God bless ❤🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Sherri!
Take your buddy burner and put a couple of holes like for a bails on pots, get some coat hangers and make an attachment that goes into the holes and then make it into a handle which can be attached to a stick and you now have a torch that will swivel as you walk. Also when in cubs we took a large coffee can and put some holes around the bottom with a church key and cut a small hole to feed sticks when wanted or for air flow when using the buddy burner and you have what they called a hobo stove can cook eggs and bacon on top, it works really well. Like the idea's for cheap easy to make cheats.

Hey bud, I'm in East Texas and noticed in your comments you are also in Texas. Do you ever do any weekend outdoor camping/survival technique get togethers? Thought it would be cool to hang out, learn from others, share stories, etc? Really appreciate all your videos and the hobo candle was genius, building one of these tomorrow to put in my 4 Patriots small stove like you one you showed, that thing is great, bought 4 of them for family members!
Where do you get the Patriot stoves and how much are they please? Thank you!
If you use an 8 oz tomato sauce or condensed soup can for the bottom of the alcohol burner you can easily slip the upper part of the burner over it without any crimping.
Instead of the inner sleeve cut the metal about 3/4" higher than the can roll it up and insert it in the large hole and let it expand. You can set a pot on it. Remove it to pack smaller.
Budget minded. Reuse repurpose stuff. Not a drinker but discovered yhe plastic liner in a wine box dispenser can be reused. The plastic valve can be pulled out with a qentle pull slipgrip pliers. Clean the plastic bladder with vinegar. Use for emergency water collector. Works great. Or fill with water and freeze and use as freezer pack in a cooler.
the alcohol pop can stoves i made i eliminated the gap issue on sides by making up enough cans to make 10 stoves then when assembling i mixed up some jb weld and put on the cans before sliding together then when the jb weld sets up hard its completely sealed and no leaks and gives a sturdy side panel all around
Another great video, JR. I'm new to your channel and I glad to say, I've learned something new with each video I've watched. I like that you keep it real and simple. It feels like I'm watching my neighbor teach me something new or explain something I wasn't clear about.
Thank you Tom!
Use triple antibiotic ointment on cotton balls instead of petroleum jelly. It's made from petroleum jelly, so it burns just as well and it lends some first aid applications to your fire kit.
Really enjoy your videos. And the DIY tutorials today was awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Great presentation, and a good, quick refresher course.
Great tip about using sport water bottles for cleaning toothbrushes, etc. Thanks.
Great hacks!
Thank you!
These are some great ideas JR! Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome Trisha! Thanks for watching and commenting!
So glad I finally found this video!! Thank you for putting it out!!
Thanks JR. Great reminders. God Bless🙏🏼🇺🇸
Thank you!
Wonderful tips!!
Thank you Joe!
Fantastic video with great content. I have several of our lamps in your video and the paraffin fuel to go with them also if I might suggest keep picking up wicks because they become hard to come by just like the lamp oil. I have dozens of wicks for all my lamps. Thanks again free video
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
As always great content. Thanks J.R.
Thank you Charles!
Me being in the desert, as well aa a bikepacker, & prepper that squirt water bottle tip is awesome & 1 you wouldn't really think of, we all usually go use our main source, which causes a lot of waste
Auto flushing toilets are The Worst! I don't know if I'd want to keep reusing the sensor tape though, considering what germ splattered surfaces it touches... 🤢
I don’t reuse it. I throw away the piece. There’s enough wrapped around even a small piece of plastic to last a while.
Thanks JR great information n demonstrations God bless 😊🇺🇸 👍 🙏
Thank you Patricia!
@@diypreppertv welcome 😊
All great ideas!!
Thank you Erin!
KMNO4, potassium permanganate or condoy's crystals. Used for water purification, antiseptic, signalling in snow and when you add a couple of drops of glycerine starting fires
Great video!! Just starting to prep! You are a very informative person and I really enjoy these videos!
Thank you!!!!!
Thanks for the petroleum jelly and cotton balls in the zip lock bag. I always hated getting the jelly and cotton fibers all over my hands. Now fixing it in the bag-problem solved easy peasy!
Cool video thanks.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great video to share.....
Great vid!!
What great tips wow!
Thank you JR. Your series , has more than enough information to stock up and make life easier when the grid goes down.
Thank you David!
You can also use canned dip. It comes with a plastic lid. Make sure the can is cool before putting on the lid.
Question: How long would the cardboard hobo stove usually burn for before the cardboard/wax insides needs to be rebuilt or replaced?
Girl Scout here. I'd say around 30-40 mins and even longer, depending on how you make them.
Thank you!
I'd wrap the duck tape around a stick of fatwood instead of a pencil. Just my preference, I know that both are good ideas.
Thanks for sharing!
DONE X 10
Thanks for watching David!
My mom taught the “Tuna Can Heater” to my older sister in Girl Scouts IN THE EARLY 1960s. Taught it to us boys when we were in Cub Scouts a few years later.
Oh, my hint.
Get one of the thingies used to keep a coffee mug warm and it will melt the wax a lot safer than a stove or open flame. And after you think you have filled the Tuna Can with wax and the wax has hardened put the Tuna Can on the heater to make sure it is full.
Thanks for sharing!
What fuel bottle is that you are using to fill the alcohol stove?
Hello Wayne! It’s made by trangia.
Two minutes 24 second mark. That was a funny comment. 😂😂😂
Thanks for watching!
HELLO GTSY
@11:37, EWWWWW! Neptune’s Kiss. A scourge on all men!
The candle stove can be Extremely Dangerous! It gets so HOT it will make a Giant fire Ball and explode! My ramen boild over into it. And BOOM! Seriously!
