    I got a cockatiel when I was 16, he wasn't hand raised and would hiss/bite everyone and generally had an attitude. Instead of being turned off by his behaviour I actually found it endearing because it reminded me of myself where I preferred to be alone and got easily annoyed by other people. I had never tamed a bird before but I was determined to make this little shit like me. I watched a lot of bird training videos and spent everyday after school with him. It took like a year to get to a fairly good stage between us where he would step up and let me pet his head/neck, sat on my shoulder and whistle back to me. I'm sure someone with more experience could have done it faster but for a 16/17 year old I was pretty happy; especially since I screwed up a lot, where I would get impatient or end up encouraging bad behaviour by accident. Nobody else in my house wanted to touch him because of his biting habit but that never really bothered me and I tried not to react when he did. Overtime we gained a mutual respect for each other, he taught me responsibility and perseverance and he learnt to trust others. He's my companion for life now and I would never give him up. He's only bonded to me and while he loves to be petted and spend time by my side he pretty much hates everyone else. I love his grumpy personality and his narcissism. Still I would definitely not recommend birds without doing a lot of research first, and would not recommend birds for teenager/kids unless they are extremely mature and fully aware of the huge responsibility or the parents are experienced owners. Most 16 year olds wouldn't stick with it like I did. Thanks to my cockatiel I now love birds and am hoping to get either a Conure or an Indian Ringneck next.

      Parakeets are bird birds. The bigger birds are more prone to bond with you even if you have another bird, but as far as parakeets (budgies) if you have pairs of parakeets ESPECIALLY a group, they will mainly only pay attention to each other.

    Hello Tyler, as a bird owner, African Grey, you did an amazing job on this vlog.
    One thing you may want to add is if a person has asthma or any other respiratory issues to know about the dander is higher in some birds than others.
    I have asthma and didn't know a cockatoo had a high level of dander. We had to rehome our pair because of the dander. It was a difficult thing to go through.
    God's blessings to you and yours, Lin

    Lovebirds are great "starter" birds since they're small, affectionate, and only live up to 15 years. I've owned 4 and they are fantastic little companions

    • @parrotgirl1920
      @parrotgirl1920 Před 6 lety +1

      Katherine Harvey they are not good starter birds, I would not recommend them to someone who has never had a bird before. They can get territorial, aggressive, loud, messy, and constantly demand attention and some people don’t know how to deal with that.

      Just because a quiz said a cockatiel is your soulbird or something doesn't mean you should get one without doing research. And the research doesn't stop after you get your bird either. You should always try to give your pet the best quality of life to the best of your abilities without any type of quality of care compromise.

    I've been wanting an Indian Ringneck Parkakeet all my life. But I never really read up on them before because I could never afford it. Now that I CAN get a bird, I decided to do some reading. Turns out the Indian Parakeet does NOT fit the lifestyle I live, And I came across this video and I actually took the bird quiz. No matter how much I tweaked my answers in minor ways, it always gives me the names of two different parrots from Africa, I never even heard of. But they definitely match my lifestyle. So, abandoning childhood dreams, I am reading and studying up on these two new parrots, and hopefully I will be able to get a hold of one of these two in my country. So, thanks for posting that quiz. :)

    we got 3 meat turkeys and I connected to those darn things, more than any other animal. As a 13 year old I think I took care of them well.
    my mom said that I could get a bird after the turkeys because of how well I handled them. I think I connected with them because of how goofy and surprisingly sincere they were. They were kind, goofy, and messy, like me I guess they were also generally enraged by the smallest things which also made me feel closer to them, yet again because of how similar they were.

    If you're looking for easy birds, here's my experience:
    (Cheaper birds: Budgies & Finches, they are cheaper, live shorter, and have a slimmer chance of bonding with it).
    (Cuddly birds: Parrotlets, Cockatiels, and Lovebirds! All my personal favorites. Usually these are pretty expensive, but if your looking for a pretty easy bird, that will also bond with you, with a price of course).
    If your looking for a beginner level bird, do not adopt/buy a large bird, anything that looks like it belongs in the Rio movie, I suggest you put that off for now. Again these are just my personal experiences! Hope this helps!

      Mikyle Noman Sulehri I’m not sure about African Greys, but I know some birds typically stay bonded only with their owner. If you haven’t known the bird for too long, just keep trying to bond with him/her and make sure they feel safe and welcome.

    One thing I keep wondering is, while you said (I think in another video?) that you are at home most of the time and that some species, like the sun conure, need constant attention...do you never go on a trip for the day? Weekend? Vacation? How do you deal with being absent for any prolonged period of time if your birds depend so much on you being there?

    I go to school and my parents go to work. But I am devoted to spending all of my outer time and effort into them. I’ve been wanting a bird for a while. I’d rather have an easy bird so what should I get? I really want to get a sun conure but, idk if they’re easy.

    If you want more than 1 bird but want him/her to bond with you get your favorite out of the bunch, make sure it is summer or winter break so you could bond with it, then get your other bird so when you leave for school, work, etc...., it will bond with you. (I don’t have a bird but I’m planing on getting one, tell me if this is a good idea)

    That quiz can be a good start to get some good info, but do not by any means take it to heart. What I mean is, it can suggest a bird though that doesn't mean that bird is the right one for you. Every bird is a lot of work. Even the budige and sadly these little birds and many other large and small parrots are abused because people do not know what they are getting into! So if your thinking about getting a bird do as much research as possible! And as Tyler said visit birds and get an idea of what your getting into. There isn't a thing as a "quite" bird. The two I personally have while I don't think they are loud, others probably would. Also even my finches while they make really pretty sounds they are going all day so things to keep in mind. Parrots and birds in general are a lot of work and you cannot just keep them in a cage and expect them to be happy (well, finches don't want to be handled lol though they do need a LARGE cage. Even though they are small they require a decent amount of space so they can fly and also you should atleast have finches in pairs.) Hope this has helped someone!

    If you love the larger conures but not how undeniably loud they are, I'd suggest a Golden Capped conure if they have them up for adoption or even for sale (they tend to be rarer though) as they tend to be quieter. Of course they're still loud and it depends on the individual.

    • @THEE.apples
      @THEE.apples Před 6 lety +2

      I would suggest any conure from the pyrrhura genus. As they tend to be the quieter conures.

    • @weefslider
      @weefslider Před 6 lety +1

      marquise Washington Some people like myself are in love with the more vivid colors of the aratinga genus, and I'd still wouldn't suggest getting a gold capped if you live an apartment, but they do tend to be a lot quieter than their close relatives

    • @THEE.apples
      @THEE.apples Před 6 lety +1

      Crimson bellied conures, blue throated conures, painted conures, fiery shoulder conures, pearly conures, rosifrons conures, mutations of green cheek conures are all very colorful. If the Aratinga genus wasn't so loud I would love them to death. Especially the jenday and nanday conures.

    You have inspired me to get a ball python. He is a male regular ball python he is still pretty small the moment I saw him I fell in love with him. That day was the first time I held a snake, I was a little nervus and shaky but I feel that I can get used to it. I've been researching about ball pythons as well. I can't wait to get him on christmas, HOPEFULLY he will still be there.

    My first bird was a cockatiel, I had 2 of them, but after 1 flew away, and we gave the other one away, we decided on getting a Indian ring neck. Honestly as an experienced bird owner cockatiels are an amazing breed to get and bond with as a beginner.

I had a parakeet for like 5 years but... unfortunately, there was cockroach poison on the floor and he had digested some. He was green and yellow, his name was cashmere. I will forever miss my best friend. 💞💞 He was my one and only. It's been like 5 years since I've last seen him.

    The quiz said that I should get parrolets, and other parakeets and green cheek conures. I am not sure about my answer because Parrolets are difficult to take care of. I have thought about getting one and I did my research with them some time ago. They have a big parrot personality with a small body. They can be fiesty and need training! But maybe I will get one someday. I will see. Thanks for the vid. It helped a lot! Subbed and liked!

    I own a sun conure they are very loud but gentle. I recommend getting them as a baby so they bond with you and get very used to you. It was my first bird and it is a great beginner bird. Sun conures in my opinion are the best birds in all the parrots. Cockatoos are good but need a lot of attention and develop really bad behaviours. African greys are extremely mean and hate attention. And Macaws have a hell of a bite.
