I remember as a kid barely 3 years old watching YuGiOh, and seeing all the big kids at the time playing with YuGiOh cards... and some time later I was the big kid with YuGiOh, and then all of the anime... haaa... this just cements how far we've come thanks to Kazuki's creativity and ingenuity RIP fam RIP

Season 0 is not set in any timeline, its the original series that was cancelled. I like to think the events of some of the things are canon in my own mind though because its just hilarious to think that Yugi solved the puzzle box and then before he encountered Kaiba and the others he saved everyone in a dinner from being shot by setting a man with a gun on fire. Then they decided to play card games. XD

Pretty much a combination of the two. People wanted to play the game, so the manga shifted to it in preparation to make it an actual game and it only took those few years because making an entire functional cardgame with a good publisher takes time. I actually really wonder what the bizarrouniverse in which that shift never happened looks like. The series possibly might have become really iconic in circles of hardcore animefans instead of being the childhood of people.

It isn't a season, it's an entirely different anime produced by Toei Animations based off of the manga. The first few issues never focused on duel monsters, so that's why there are so many differences. When the fandom found this, they thought it was a lost season of Yu-Gi-Oh, and ever since called it by that.
It's probably because you know yu-gi-oh season 0 will never be completed. The 27 episodes were amazing, too bad that's all there ever will be. If they did then the final battle against Atem and Yugi most likely would have been a Yami no Game. Now I'm so curious...

If they still followed the Season 0 format, just imagine how different Yu-Gi-Oh DM would have been. Instead of where every problem is solved by playing a card game that everyone somehow know how to play. Though I did like in DM how Yugi wasn't beaten up every 1-3 episodes.
I like the surrealism of the animation. The team saw the series for the psychological thriller that it was and used their animation to really pull that out. A true example of how a story told through different mediums should use each to it's full advantage.
Is funny how in the manga of duel monsters this season is cannon so atem goes from a serial killer to save the word with the power of friendship and friends
So was the fact the beginning of the manga (Season 0) focused on playing various games until they just sticked with playing card game instead later on (DM) lol.
It's pretty touching. He starts out only caring about winning, slowly starts to care about Yugi's friends, then Yugi himself, then gets inspired by Yugi to care about more than just winning and losing. The manga started with being about Yugi finding his friends and strength thanks to Atem and ends with Atem having found his strength to save the world through Yugi.
The orginal cards were part of a launch event for the manga and were a huge hit. They also sold a line of the capluses from Mokuba's table top game as well. Various side games ( the virtual world game, dungeon dice, master of cards ) made it to the anime thanks to it's sucess but were orginally scrapped from the manga due to the lack of time kazuki had. He mentions himself during many of his interviews that he intended to have kaiba as the ultimate bad having him coming up with many different games and challenging yugi to over come each one of them.
AxelFireDancer I doubt that. The card game wasn't even introduced in the manga until chapter 9. It might be true overseas, but not likely in Japan. Konami's card game wasn't even the first time somebody has made licensed cards from Yuugi-Ou. The Japan-only Bandai version is well-known, and there were several different printings of promotional cards not part of either the Konami card game or the Bandai card game.
Yu-Gi-Oh GX is actually directly connected to the first one, taking place 10 years after the original Kaiba runs the duelist academy that the students enroll in and Yugi literally appears in episode 1, giving Judai (Jaden in the west) his Kuriboh card. There is also an episode where Judai goes back in time to fight Yugi when he was still a teen.

Saddened to find out that the creator of this legendary anime has passed. He will live on as we continue to remember him, watch the series, and play the games. This video was uploaded when I was still in high school, time flies and we often waste it.
Every time they tried to branch back into other games, it failed. Dungeon Dice Monsters Capsule monsters were poorly received so they stuck to the card game. They could've done it with the filler arcs, especially since most of the cards featured in those arcs weren't initially planned for release until Konami decided to farm nostalgia, but I guess they were afraid it would impact pack sales.
The Duel monsters direction was a much better move tho Because the fans loved the concept of Duel Monsters so much they decided to make that the main focus instead And honestly I'm glad they did because the card games badass asf

The early chapters were _brutal._ I don't know what they added or changed in the anime that well, but the first shadow game wasn't a weird rooftop card game, but one were they put money on their hand and stabbed through it to keep it. So they had to be careful not to stab their own hand. The guy Yami was playing against _literally tried to stab him._ He was driven insane, believing garbage was money. And that's not even talking about the time Yami legit killed someone. Set the guy on fire. There also was a weird air-hockey but with ice and a hot plate game with explosive chemicals, and the one time were he permanently ruined the vision of a TV producer.

I believe one of the biggest changes on season 0 was the fact Miho was one of the main characters in this season, when she's just a random fodder in the manga. And because of that, Miho replaced a lot of Jonouchi and Honda's roles and do more stuffs in the anime than she ever did on the manga.
According to the original manga writer, switching to card game only focus helped with coming up with a better story structure as he doesn't have to waste time making up random new games every week. Have to admit it, that was a good decision since Yu-Gi-Oh! became mainly popular due to the card game.

I used to listen to this every day whem I was getting ready for school. I had the words memorized. And I will never forget YuGiOh and how it helped me feel like I belonged.
It's very sad that this happened. I used to watch a lot of of it when I was younger, while still confused, I was always impressed by how amazing the cards are, Takahashi-san created something that made and still will make the lifes of various. I remember watching Yu-Gi-Oh zero over and over again as a child. As i grew up, I totally forgot about it, but yesterday i found it again by chance and rewatched all of it in one sitting. I did cry a little bit listening to the OP because it's so nostalgic! Really a big part of my happiest days.
I wish they would release this series on dvd and blu ray in America and the uk. This series is to good to miss and it's a shame people think it's just the card game. Season 0 is genuinely on of my favourite anime of all time. It was such a fantastic idea and focused on the part of yu gi oh that I actually cared about most.

I came back on this cause season 0 was freaking good and it's all thanks to Kazuki Takahashi. Kind of bad this season didn't continued because it was going on the right way, at 0:59 and 1:07 i'm actually surprised by how much Yami Yugi from 0 starting to look like the Atem from DM design wise we know. Only big difference is the eye of Anubis on front always appearing. I think it showed how he has softened and improved as a person later in the short series. Thanks Kazuki Takahashi for this franchise that is Yu-Gi-Oh!

I finished yugioh's manga last year and wanted to listen to this song and I realized how things can change in 1 year this song feels old just like the video. I first watched and read Season 0 back in 2009 while I was still in high school. I just started reading and rewatching it and it's been a trip down memory lane. Some how I forgot about it to the point it feels like I am watching and reading it for the first time. I love Yu-Gi-Oh so much. It will always hold a special place near my heart. I'm glad to see other people's comments on old videos like these on other YGO videos. It makes me feel not alone or silly for coming back to these.

It isn't a season, it's an entirely different anime produced by Toei Animations based off of the manga. The first few issues never focused on duel monsters, so that's why there are so many differences. When the fandom found this, they thought it was a lost season of Yu-Gi-Oh, and ever since called it by that.

It's probably because you know yu-gi-oh season 0 will never be completed. The 27 episodes were amazing, too bad that's all there ever will be. If they did then the final battle against Atem and Yugi most likely would have been a Yami no Game. Now I'm so curious...

I like the surrealism of the animation. The team saw the series for the psychological thriller that it was and used their animation to really pull that out.
A true example of how a story told through different mediums should use each to it's full advantage.
Is funny how in the manga of duel monsters this season is cannon so atem goes from a serial killer to save the word with the power of friendship and friends
So was the fact the beginning of the manga (Season 0) focused on playing various games until they just sticked with playing card game instead later on (DM) lol.
It's pretty touching. He starts out only caring about winning, slowly starts to care about Yugi's friends, then Yugi himself, then gets inspired by Yugi to care about more than just winning and losing. The manga started with being about Yugi finding his friends and strength thanks to Atem and ends with Atem having found his strength to save the world through Yugi.
How come they never brought back the concept of just playing unique games instead of dual monsters.
They've always have been selling the cards since season 0.
The orginal cards were part of a launch event for the manga and were a huge hit. They also sold a line of the capluses from Mokuba's table top game as well. Various side games ( the virtual world game, dungeon dice, master of cards ) made it to the anime thanks to it's sucess but were orginally scrapped from the manga due to the lack of time kazuki had. He mentions himself during many of his interviews that he intended to have kaiba as the ultimate bad having him coming up with many different games and challenging yugi to over come each one of them.

I doubt that. The card game wasn't even introduced in the manga until chapter 9. It might be true overseas, but not likely in Japan.
Konami's card game wasn't even the first time somebody has made licensed cards from Yuugi-Ou. The Japan-only Bandai version is well-known, and there were several different printings of promotional cards not part of either the Konami card game or the Bandai card game.
Because it's easier to sell children's trading cards.

Yu-Gi-Oh GX is actually directly connected to the first one, taking place 10 years after the original
Kaiba runs the duelist academy that the students enroll in and Yugi literally appears in episode 1, giving Judai (Jaden in the west) his Kuriboh card.
There is also an episode where Judai goes back in time to fight Yugi when he was still a teen.
What does that have to do with yugioh season 0 whatsoever? Also anybody with a brain would be able to comprehend they are connected by watching the first episode of gx

Miho was better in the manga and she only appears for one chapter there. At least she wasn't a gold digger in the manga.
Well, I saw the 0 season when I was very, very young, and, although I really liked the series, I kinda... Yami Yugi first give some fear, for some reason. Like when he transformed that guy in a clock.
@@tenientemantequilla4307 I think it's very intentional. Yami Yuugi starts off as a cruel and ruthless character on purpose so that we can see him change throughout, most notably when he gives Kaiba a chance at recovery.

Saddened to find out that the creator of this legendary anime has passed. He will live on as we continue to remember him, watch the series, and play the games. This video was uploaded when I was still in high school, time flies and we often waste it.
Back when Yugi was actually the King of Games, not just card dueling.
Every time they tried to branch back into other games, it failed. Dungeon Dice Monsters Capsule monsters were poorly received so they stuck to the card game. They could've done it with the filler arcs, especially since most of the cards featured in those arcs weren't initially planned for release until Konami decided to farm nostalgia, but I guess they were afraid it would impact pack sales.
The Duel monsters direction was a much better move tho
Because the fans loved the concept of Duel Monsters so much they decided to make that the main focus instead
And honestly I'm glad they did because the card games badass asf

The early chapters were _brutal._ I don't know what they added or changed in the anime that well, but the first shadow game wasn't a weird rooftop card game, but one were they put money on their hand and stabbed through it to keep it. So they had to be careful not to stab their own hand. The guy Yami was playing against _literally tried to stab him._ He was driven insane, believing garbage was money. And that's not even talking about the time Yami legit killed someone. Set the guy on fire. There also was a weird air-hockey but with ice and a hot plate game with explosive chemicals, and the one time were he permanently ruined the vision of a TV producer.
Eloize Aubin oh yeah, I’m not even sure that yami yugi was supposed to be a good guy at first lmao. I understand that he is from 3000 years and his morals would be different, but still, dude seems like an a straight up psychopath.
I believe one of the biggest changes on season 0 was the fact Miho was one of the main characters in this season, when she's just a random fodder in the manga. And because of that, Miho replaced a lot of Jonouchi and Honda's roles and do more stuffs in the anime than she ever did on the manga.

According to the original manga writer, switching to card game only focus helped with coming up with a better story structure as he doesn't have to waste time making up random new games every week. Have to admit it, that was a good decision since Yu-Gi-Oh! became mainly popular due to the card game.
The reason why they changed direction of the plot to focus on card games only was because the fans loved the concept of Duel Monsters so much they decided to make it the main focus instead

I used to listen to this every day whem I was getting ready for school. I had the words memorized. And I will never forget YuGiOh and how it helped me feel like I belonged.
It's very sad that this happened.
I used to watch a lot of of it when I was younger, while still confused, I was always impressed by how amazing the cards are, Takahashi-san created something that made and still will make the lifes of various.
I don't collect cards, but I have one of them inside of my phone case, it will now have more value than ever.

I wish they would release this series on dvd and blu ray in America and the uk. This series is to good to miss and it's a shame people think it's just the card game. Season 0 is genuinely on of my favourite anime of all time. It was such a fantastic idea and focused on the part of yu gi oh that I actually cared about most.

I came back on this cause season 0 was freaking good and it's all thanks to Kazuki Takahashi. Kind of bad this season didn't continued because it was going on the right way, at 0:59 and 1:07 i'm actually surprised by how much Yami Yugi from 0 starting to look like the Atem from DM design wise we know. Only big difference is the eye of Anubis on front always appearing. I think it showed how he has softened and improved as a person later in the short series.

Rip Takahashi, thank you for creating a game that gave us so many memories and taught us about friendship, believing in others, and creating strategies to overcome any obstacle you face, seriously, this show had so many outside the box strategies by the protagonists it influenced some Decisions I made in the last few years, my favorite was the infinite loop combo yugi used to take down the the god card Slifer this show taught you if your play your cards right you could pull off the impossible

I was depressed back then, and this would give me some strange confort
I kept hearing about this series and I finally watched most of it. I like Yami's character in DM to a degree, but here he is downright savage. 👏 It's interesting to see his totally different relationship with Anzu this time. Of course, I'm pretty relieved to not have to hear a friendship speech every 5 minutes too
I finished yugioh's manga last year and wanted to listen to this song and I realized how things can change in 1 year this song feels old just like the video. Literally all comments are 1 year old and I feel like Im in a house where there are a lot of memorys of people who is there before. I first watched and read Season 0 back in 2009 while I was still in high school. I just started reading and rewatching it and it's been a trip down memory lane. Some how I forgot about it to the point it feels like I am watching and reading it for the first time. I love Yu-Gi-Oh so much. It will always hold a special place near my heart. I'm glad to see other people's comments on old videos like these on other YGO videos. It makes me feel not alone or silly for coming back to these.
