My 2019 "Re-Review" of this knife here:
czcams.com/video/n9Gz-jtWiKk/video.html
Served me well so far. I've been a patrol officer for 5 years now and have been using it since day 1.
Realy you need to upgrade man try a Kershaw they come solid mostly
Would you trust your life with it? I spent a little more and got knives that were built better and held an edge well. I also prefer fixed blade knives.
I've been carrying this knife for at least four years, one of which I was still moonlighting as a bouncer. I have had to sharpen it regularly, but I've somehow never had it literally fall apart. I like point down in the pocket, and while I'm left handed I always carry a right handed knife and it's always in my right pocket.
Am I using it for knife fighting? No, that's silly. I use it to open boxes, like we all do with knifes. However, I've jumped over bar counters on a regular basis with this thing staying secured in my pocket in the closed position.
Sharpened regularly? You shouldn't need to sharpen it that often. Strop a knife when needed and sharpen when you have to. D2, 154cm, 440C stainless, high carbon are better choices. Get into handmade including Damascus.
I agree, I used this as a beater knife for a while, I had to sharpen it at least once a week 😆 but never failed or opened in my pocket. Long since moved onto better knives
I carried it for about 3 years before my buddy taught me about high quality, served me fine. I took it apart, conditioned it, gave it the spa treatment and now its a drawer knife for my tool bench.
Ive had one for about 6 years that i carry on and off. Its always been a decent knife for me and blade holds its edge ok. I mean its a $15 dollar knife, for the price its not bad.
Had mine for over 5 years, still my edc
I've had my Hinderer for over 300 years. It's so sharp, it can cleave space-time. It also reads me bedtime stories.
@@metal_complex You're such a dick
🤣
@@matfox6254 Takes a Dick to know a Dick.
I had one. Worked fine for me as a cheap work knife. Ended up giving it away when I got some nicer knives
Had one for 7 years as my EDC, never had any problems, I love this knife. Had to give it up in a security checkpoint, went right out and got another, glad they still make em. It’s super cheap so didn’t feel bad having to give it up at all, the new one seems to be the same quality (again no problems and used it a ton)
Possibly it's the quality control which is the problem. I enjoy mine but someone else's experience may vary it seems to be a roll of the dice and probably a good reason to avoid this knife nonetheless
I've seen some truly terrible S&W clunkers, but I've actually had good luck with their M&P line.
8Cr, came shockingly sharp, good action, on sale for like $12, made me change my mind.
I still enjoy a bad review though! lol ;)
I think the word "Extreme" is intended to stand for "For Extreme Operations" or something like that but I get your point. If you are going to use knives for just regular EDC use, then imo, a folder can't be that bad. It all depends on what design and locking system you prefer.
I had seem knive and it´s Works! only need a few care and still works good!
I just bought this knife few a weeks ago at Tractor Supply. I like it, yeah it's stiff opening but it'll loosen up. Feels good in the hand. Blade is plenty sharp. What the hell does want in a knife that was only $26? Sheesh.
Formal just bought this knife and it’s not gonna compare to a 300 dollar knife but for 22 dollars its alright it is really cheap and flimsy it seems.
@@amanwithouthope9475 , to me it feels sturdy enough. I like its weight.
CJRB, Civivi, Real Steel, Kershaw, Sencut etc are all making knives with substantially higher quality at this price point. This is a $5 knife. If it's working for you, great. But it isnt worth what they're asking vs the competition.
@@metal_complex , for some reason up here in the Northeast, the competition seems to be priced higher. It'll serve me for now, but I may attend some upcoming gun shows where I can also try out some custom stuff. I'm not a collector, but I do like to upgrade if it doesn't cost me a kidney.
A D2 blade will serve you better. Fortunately you can get it properly heat treated in the same price range 👍👍
i bought a s&w ck404 got a frame lock and has no blade play wonder if they've found a slightly better Chinese source lol
only like $8 too
Metal Complex : I purchased both the S &W Bullseye + The S & W Executive knifes and for the life of me i could not close the blades on either . Now thanks to you i can and have closed both blades . Thank you very much , your directions were / are clear and easy to follow . Thank you from the UK i felt very uneasy with both blades open and unable to close them . These are brand new knifes i have and i thought they were simply stiff , had i not seen your video i don't know when i would have figured it out :-) Great , Metal Complex , and thank you very much again , sir . Good job
👍
It’s cheap, durable and sharp...a little heavy but with still fuck someone up...honestly don’t be an equipment snob
You're welcome to spend your money on whatever you want. My channel is entirely based on my own opinion. I prefer to look at knives as tools, not weapons. So whether or not it would "fuck someone up" is not something I am concerned with.
It's pretty common knowledge that S&W accesories are not American. S&W knives are made and produced by Taylor Cutlery. The metal and small parts are all Chinese. I however do not feel there is a big sacrifice to quality. Yes it is not a Benchmade, Spyderco, Cold Steel etc.
Their knives are more comparible to Kershaw's lower end or CRKT knives. You don't buy these knives for self defense or extreme use. They brand them as spec ops and extreme ops simply to stay with the S&W branding. S&W knives are good small utility knives and will hold up decently on simple small tasks. I do not understand why you're expecting this to be an extremely tacticle knife. If that's what you want then get a Ka-Bar.
I've got almost 4000 uploads. 200 of them are less expensive recommendable knives. All of them higher quality than what S&W's Chinese OEM creates in this tier.
I can confidently say that now in 2023, there is simply no reason to spend any amount of money on a product with such poor quality. Too many alternatives exist.
Your not giving it good credit. I have had it for ever and it is working really well. and this is a first responders knife. Smith and wesson is really good so i dont know what your smoking.
You can carry whatever you want to carry... but if you think Smith and Wesson makes good knives, you clearly haven't experienced much else. It isn't a "First Responder's" knife. It's cheap materials coated in black paint, and shaped like something that appeals to people looking for something "tactical". Even as cheap as it is, there are WAY better knives out there. I've got 1600 uploads covering quite a bit of it. Smith and Wesson knives are truly the bottom of the barrel. They don't make them themselves. They're outsourced, and made to be as cheap as possible.
@@metal_complex I have other kinds I like better.
Everyone should lol
First responder knife? Try a Benchmade Griptilian. You will be amazed at how long it stays sharp.
You sure used the hell out of that "pos" knife. Looks like it held up. I know folders and I am impressed with my little SWAT MB. Thought the same thing when i saw it was made in Thailand but turns out Smith and wesson make some good knives and they are cheap. I took all the crap off like grip tape the clip and thumb studs and at its core is a solid knife with steel liners and aluminum handles with a solid liner lock and spring. I also fully disassembled it and it went back together like butter. Brass bushings. Cant tell me its not a good knife. Ive taken it apart and continue to use it with no issues. Gets razor sharp.
Carried it for 3 years on duty.Armored transport.
Never had a problem
Like anything, take care of it,and it'll take care of you
Enough said..
To me, this knife is like an old Ford 6.0 Powerstroke Diesel. You could love it and maintain it all you want, but it's doomed from the start. It will inevitably fail sooner than most of the competition out there. It'll do ok for a little bit, but almost anything is a better choice.
@@metal_complex based on what?
This motor is plagued with injector issues. Look it up. Common problem. Basically, the knife just isn't made well. Same as the motor.
Carful it's extreme lol I dig for the bad reviews to find the truth.
Good video
Before you bash the knife maybe you should actually use it before guessing how it might peform. Did you try the seatbelt cutter ? Since you claim it would not cut a seatbelt?
Yep. The seatbelt cutter is dull, and wasn't capable of cutting anything I tested it on (Seatbelt material, cloth, paper.) In most situations where I'm not sure, I might go out and test the knife in a bunch of different ways, but this one was so poorly made, it really wasn't even safe. Everything was loose and falling apart.
Metal Complex Cool thanks! I was about to buy one.
I bought this about 6 years ago because I wanted a belt cutter for my truck. When it arrived, two screws fell out as I opened the package and it was a pos! I threw it right in the garbage. A few years fast forward, I am now a knife collector and chuckle when I think of that Smith and Wesson!
7Cr17 is better then vg10 or aus8 ..soo
7Cr17 is the Chinese equivelant to 440A, which is definitely not as good as aus8 or vg10 in terms of edge retention.
@@metal_complex do you know something about 440c or 15N20+1095 compared with best ones? Thank you
440c used to be king for folders a long time ago, but is considered a decent budget steel now. Still fine for a low cost user. 15N20 is a tough bandsaw steel that is decent on its own, or when combined with 1095 for damascus. All of these are "low cost" steels, and won't perform nearly as well as some of the more premium stuff out there, but they certainly arent bad choices for budget knives. I would prefer "Damasteel" (RWL-34 / PMC27) when it comes to "user" damascus. Even grain structure, and performance similar to CPM154. Hope that helps.
@@metal_complex Thank you very much! It helps!
C P lol@you
That does not Look like a traditional Japanese tanto. How do they Even Have The coursge to Call it a tanto
These knives are such weird crap but my father and my coworkers carried these and somehow these things lasted. Unironic and not praising this at all. But my father just beats his knife to death and cares not for them, yet this and the border guard knife lasted long with no maintenance.
Kershaw, CRKT, Cold steel, OKC, Sencut, CJRB, Steelwill jack, EVEN GERBER, just endless blade brands better than this.
Sometimes you get one that works well, and you get one thats a paperweight to give to a local crackhead
The rubber sorta melted off of mine ! It sucks
Lol! That's not good!
I enjoyed your great video on a wicked shitty knife. I hope the nest one doesn't disappoint 🤙
This knife is made from garbage and mashed potatoes
I couldn’t make it all the way through the current review so I came here instead. S&W is only selling a brand with this kind of stuff and is only hurting their own image by doing so.
Looks too used for you to call it junk.
This knife literally saw 2 weeks of use. Its absolutely junk
it blows my mind how many people defend this repulsive knife. lol. :')
Pretty sure the same company that owns Schrade (Taylor brands) owns Smith and Wesson knives. Always been garbage
I have this knife and I've had other high-dollar knives this is a great night and you do not know what you're talking about
Na it's crap. I know what I'm talking about
@@metal_complex you probably just had the misfortune of getting a crappy one when was was in madewell
@user-gc3jc1kx7c no. Smith & Wesson is well known for terrible knives.
4200 uploads here. I know knives.
