And then Gordon went off to have a beer with Barney and his fellow scientists, celebrating his success on such an amazing leap in science. A true good ending.
you passed out during the experiment Gordon. What? a Resonance Cascade? Combine suppression field? a mysterious man with a suitcase? What are you talking about? come on we’re late for the Black Mesa potluck.
After that experience Gordon would write what he could remember on a notebook as a curiosity. Years later, someone would find these notes and he would turn them into a video game and so the story of the development of "Hunt Down the Freeman" begins.
You know, I've always wanted to see a mod where the test goes according to plan and we get to see what Gordon usually does in his average work day. Would be really interesting
It would be cool to get a look at, but in terms of an actual job, it doesn't really seem that interesting. It's probably just a lot of monitoring levels, ensuring that the equipment is stable, logging data, observing readings, maybe a bit of discussion with the rest of the team about said observations, maintaining the equipment, taking occasional breaks. Fairly mundane stuff, I'd imagine. We know that Gordon's job doesn't always mean going into the test chamber, as one of the guards remarks, "looks like you're in the barrel today", which wouldn't make sense if he was always 'in the barrel'. I'd say his team have some kind of rota, where they alternate different tasks. That would certainly make the Hazard Course a little bit more logical, if whole divisions had to have HEV training, rather than just one or two individuals per team. It's also confirmed that Gordon's division had no idea about teleportation or Xen, the experiments with creatures or any of the weaponry development, so it was probably quite uneventful, other than the Anti-mass Spectrometer's lightshow.
@@alfo2804 you could probably incorporate some physics puzzles, similar to what you do thru the non-combat sections in the regular games. Minus the work place hazards and aliens everywhere, but I think it could work as a short and sweet experience.
The funny thing is, physics Nobels are usually awarded to entire teams. So yes, if team got a Nobel for interdimensional wormholes, Gordon would be included.
In all fairness in most fields (physics especially) the odds of an experiment going exactly as planned are so low that it's absolutely worthy of praise and recognition both in the scientific community and on the streetz when it all goes smoooothly.

If this were what happened in HL1 then here are the list of some events that would probably happen. 1.The Combine wouldn't have invaded earth because they didn't even know earth existed, therefore. HL2 and HL games after that wouldn't have existed 2.GLaDOS would probably be deactivated, the reason no evacuation teams or military organization was sent to Aperture was because the attention in the world was diverted to the Black Mesa Incident, in this alternate universe, the Black Mesa Incident never happened. Therefore, The Neurotoxin attack at Aperture would most likely be the new Black Mesa Incident. 3.Gordon would still be a highly Trained professional working at Black Mesa 4.The Chances of Gordon getting the beer that barney owed him would be higher, since they both would still work in the same facility and are more likely to meet eachother rather than in HL2 5.Kleiner Will not have a pet headcrab 6.The Resistance Will not exist. As the Combine didn't invade earth Anyways i just Made this comment for fun, feel free to hate on it or whatever.
7.Hunt Down The Freeman is never developed as there is no Half Life universe to expand on. The lead dev is caught in a store stealing a bag of cheetos, due to his erratic behavior he was processed by the authorities and is put into an insane asylum where he would remain for the rest of his days.
7. They eventually attract the attention of the Combine anyway, using interdimensional teleportation tech and all. At that point Aperture's two way portal tech would be more than sealed away in two remote locations, and so when the Combine DO get there, get they their hands on everything. Whooops. Maybe G-Man isn't so bad after all...
Speaking of the headcrab thing made me think, Eli would still have his one leg. Side note, this happening means that since the Combine never invaded, no Seven Hour War, so Earth's militaries are still in one, Earth's population would be the same/ not pretty much wiped out, no cities would have been destroyed, Ravenholm would still be very peaceful. Truly the greatest good and happiest ending
I'm guessing this is what happens when Gordon behaves responsibly and *does* use proper protection before slotting it in. Remember kids, don't leave your heads exposed!
A thought occurred. Since the devs wanted to leave his head irresponsibly exposed, why not explain it away with the helmet getting damaged during Resonance Cascade? After all, the ceiling was crumbling. Maybe have a brick hit the helmet hard enough to, for instance, crack the visor beyond seeing anything through it. There you go: now there is a reason why Gordon doesn’t wear his helmet.
The unfortunate thing is the teleportation experiments were probably just going to attract the Combines attention sooner or later anyways. Who knows. If the Combine invasion was delayed by a few decades maybe The 7 Hour War would have been The 8 Hour War.
Now I'm genuinely happy and satisfied with this ending, similar to Blue Shift's... really happy everyone got to live another day, including all those grunts and ninja assassins and vortigaunts and of course the nihilanth, not the face huggers though.
I thought I'd never see a resonances cascade in April. Truly the meme police must have been alerted by now - best stay put and wait for them to evacuate us.
After apparently killing the G-Man, Gordon uses his briefcase to pause time at the moment the sample was inserted. He swaps it out with a weaker, more stable sample, then destroys the original. He knew the fight against the Combine was one humanity simply could not win, no matter how hard they fought. The only way to save Earth from the overwhelming numbers and tech of the Combine was to make sure the Combine never have reason to notice Earth to begin with. Gordon smiles one last time at his frozen past self, knowing that because of his actions, he will soon fade from existence. Our Gordon disappears forever. The experiment goes off without a hitch. Gordon and Barney get a beer.
