7:38 minutes for 20.8 kilometres of Green Hell: Lars Kern has set a new SUV lap record on the Nordschleife with the new performance model of the Porsche Cayenne. In the official ranking of the Nürburgring, the time is listed as a new record in the “SUVs, off-road vehicles, vans, pick-ups” category.

This VW roll cage trend is really bad. People prefer to know the real performance of the cars delivered to customers.
Looks like this kind of cage can improve the handling much better than stock car. maybe 5-10 seconds difference.

The moment when a SUV is much quicker than a GT3 Race-Car. Crazy.
On the Döttinger Höhe maybe a little, but GT3 race cars are way faster through high speed corners like Schwedenkreuz, Flugplatz, Tiergarten etc.
Yeah on the straight since the are limited on the Nordschleife but everywhere else the GT3s are way faster.
Well it has more power, a ridiculous amount of less downforce and also longer gears. It has no chance in the corners though.

If you knew anything you know that these mods are allowed under the rules to be still eligible for production car records. All manufacturers undertake similar mods. This is different than gutting the car which is not allowed.
@@almac9203 If you thought at all you would see that his point is that these records set by manufacturers are always fishy and the cars are never the same as the one you can actually buy, making these records a mere marketing exercise and not a true indicator of performance.
@@MyRealNamethey are only allowed a couple of basic safety modifications. These modifications are allowed for safety reasons. This is not an example of what you are suggesting and this meets the agreed definition of a production spec car. You are allowed to make these basic modifications and they now have a notary check your car during offical times laps. This is different than Nissan setting records in the past with purported stock GTR which wasn't close to being stock or Tesla sending out a heavily modified car with different tyres and brakes and a giant wing and a stripped out interior none of which was stock. I think you fail to appreciate the distinction between the basic allowed modifications under the definition of production car spec and what amounts to a non production car specification. Your argument is stupid because a car without safety equipment is too dangerous to take around the ring at maximum speed that is why basic safety equipment is allowed.

@Avoidant This one also doesn't have rear seats most probably, look at the roll cage. Without those tricks this Turbo S or something maybe just as fast as that Megane.

Mit einem Rennfahrer, anderen Reifen und einer perfektesten Runde würde der M5 CS bestimmt nochmal 10-15 Sekunden schneller sein.

@@GoldenCroc the only reason the Urus is slower than this and the Audi on this circuit is because Lamborghini hasn't sent a team over to claim the record. If VW executives wanted the Urus to set a record it could do so. There is no chance a factory Lamborghini team couldn't have beat the previous Audi RSQ8 record if they tried. It is all about marketing rather than engineering.

I really don't understand the marketing strategy of Porsche. If it's a Turbo S, then call it Cayenne Turbo S. Turbo S to base Cayenne is just like RSQ8 to normal Q8.
Audi didn't say Q8 holds the record.
The marketing strategy is a big reason that they can't sell many Turbos except 911.
It's not the Turbo S, it's a new variant called Cayenne Turbo GT which hasn't yet been revealed officially by Porsche

To delete rear seats and adding the rolling cage is really a bad trend. Look at this cage, it's literally everywhere. Looks like the handling is much much better than the stock cars that really delivered to customers. What's the point of this kind of record then?

You are allowed to make certain modifications and still be accepted for production car records. It is the same for every single car manufacturer. You can't gut the car but can remove weight equal to the roll cage. The playing field is the same for every car maker and Porsche is playing by the rules. This is different than Tesla gutting their car and attaching a large wing and carbon brakes not found on the production car which is not considered production spec and therefore wasn't eligible for any records.

Es ist ein Serienfahrzeug, wird sogar notariell Beurkundet. Sicherheitsaustattung wie Schalensitze und Käfig sind erlaubt und auch sinvoll. Am Ende des Tages wird der Hobel sogar schwerer als ein „komplettes“ Serienfahrzeug sein.
@@marcelnotavaiable6607 der ist nicht schwerer, da das Zusatzgewicht für Käfig etc. rausgebaut werden darf. Also fliegt z.B. die hintere Sitzreihe für den Käfig raus usw.

SUV was für eine scheiß Erfindung. Meiner Meinung nach sollten diese Auto´s auf max. 160 Km/h begrenzt werden. Stell dir mal vor was passiert wenn so ein 2-3 Tonnen Koloss mit einem Kleinwagen bei einem Unfall macht. Und dann noch mit der Leistung? Die meisten die so ein Auto kaufen wollen eh nur Ihr Pferdehänger ziehen. Aber mancher Spakko meint halt er könnt so fahren wie Schumacher. Sorry ist für mich totaler Blödsinn solche Autos so schnell zu machen. Schaltet mal euer Hirn ein und denkt mal nach Leute !!!
I will be the one to give another angle of the cage and race seat: I dont like it, because it is not a stock car, not becuase of any theoretical performance benefits. Ideally, it should not be there. I dont care about the drivers safety, and I am sure the driver wont either. Thats not how race drivers think. Yes, yes, an accident with injuries would be bad PR for Porsche and Nurburgring, but I was talking ideally.
Edit: ok, I am only somewhat serious. Without a cage, there are several spots where an accident wont be survivable, which is not good.
The rules are the same for every car manufacturer. You can fit safety equipment and remove weight equal to the weight of the safety equipment and still be eligible for production car records.

Wieso sollte jemand diesen übergewichtigen Rentnereimer kaufen wollen wenn er beabsichtigt auf einem track unterwegs zu sein? Dann doch lieber einen 911er (oder einen anderen echten Sportwagen) und ein anderes Fahrzeug das tatsächlich einen Nutzwert hat kaufen. Am Geld sollte es bei der potentiellen Kundschaft ja nicht mangeln.
Vielleicht hat es PR Gründe, daß man in möchlichst vielen Kategorien den Rekord haben will.

Und so geht es doch nur noch darum wer das Auto am besten Tunen kann. Die wahre Performance sieht man nicht

Das sind doch nur Sicherheitsmaßnahmen für den Fahrer. Ansonsten ist das Fahrzeug serie, da ist nichts getunt.
Das Fzg. ist Serie, bis auf den Käfig (was sowieso bei Rekordfahrten/I-Pool aus Sicherheitsgründen üblich ist).
Das Gewicht der fehlenden Sitze vorne wieder durch den Käfig auch mehr als kompensiert...

Das Fzg. ist ein leicht getarntes VS0 (Vorserie 0) Modell und somit bereits entsprechend dem Auslieferungszustand an Kunden gebaut. Die Reifen werden auch auf dem Serienfahrzeug verwendet. Der Einbau des Sicherheitskäfigs wirkt zwar versteifend, allerdings erhöht er auch den Schwerpunkt und das Fahrzeuggewicht. Ein negativer oder positiver Einfluss hiervon lässt sich diskutieren.

As the owner of a similar-ish car, I can tell you are about half right. Driving fast is fun, but not as fun in an SUV as it would be in a real sportscar. Too little communication. The statement that they are useless if applied generally and to all driving is on the other hand not true, they can be very useful.
