I love watching peter and Ernie fight it makes me happy and laugh and reminds me of the good old days of family guy I still remember watching them fight for the first time when my family was on vacation in Florida the villa we were staying in me and my dad slept in the living room so we could watch tv and just so happens that night or second night there family guy was on and me and my dad watched peter and Ernie fight for the first time and we laughed so hard we couldn’t breath
i think we WILL get a family guy movie at some point but the biggest holdback is that family is a hard series to make a movie out of: what could they do with it that would make it worthy of getting a full movie rather than make it feel like just a extra long ep?
if peter is depressed then it really shows how dumb and smart people handle depression like peter his depression is non existent he still wants to live life, and hang with his friends. aswell as masking it with heavy drinking and abusing others around him. like meg. how brian handles his is he drinks, you can see a few episodes where he is on the bottom questioning life. He tries to live life but its clear he is never happy. and masks it with girls and booze.

I feel like a lot of these chicken fights and other Cutaway gags are going on for a long time because the writers are starting to run out of ideas because Family Guy is going on for a long time so they use these gags repeatedly to make the run time
I personally disagree when you say the chicken fights are a lazy way to extend run time for certain episodes, as those sections are always animated extremely well and definitely have a lot of effort put into them. Also I do enjoy them a lot.
Personally while I loved them growing up (Yes I watched family guy as a child because lol) I now think as a 23 year old that I think it's time for the chicken to die off or have a chicken fight between Stewie and Ernie's kid maybe as a way to show that while one feud between their fathers has ended a new one can start with their sons.
