Hi Sam - Two things: 1) Happy Birthday! 2) Thanks so much for the detailed account of the local planning issue. I won't go into it here but I too suffered in a very similar way at the hands of my local "Authority" over a very similar development. I won't go into it here but suffice to say that I ended up selling my home and moving away after it affected my health severely.... so I entirely empathise! It is not only "sad" (to put it mildly) but mind-bendingly astonishing that such things are "lawful" and allowed to proceed. The people who throw sticks and stones and label others who stand up for their rights as "NIMBYs" are those fortunate enough to have escaped this (literal) bulldozering over one's right to enjoy the peace and quiet of one's own home. I know most people watching this episode will have "turned off" during this but thank you for mentioning such a story on your channel! Great stuff and long may you keep it up! :-) (PS I would not be at all surprised if there were not some "back-handers" at play in your developer's case: I have no doubt there was in the case which I experienced! The Developer turned out to be a member of a well-known (and very secretive) men's club... and, in the words of the Council Chief Planning Officer I had meetings with... "is a man who has a 'way' of getting what he wants": His words!)

Thanks Martyn. Sorry to hear that your local planning experience was so damaging. I'm not surprised, it's utterly toxic in this small outwardly peaceful village. Absolutely NOTHING of what I've experienced would come as any surprise to you - I can tell that right away. Right down to the likelihood of membershop of that very secret 'men's club' no doubt. Whatever ultimately happens, I'm proud that I represented the people who elected me to the very best of my abilities; the outcome can never change that fact. I can't do any more than that.

Regarding the U-channel truss rod adjuster - we had an email conversation about this at the end of January this year, if you remember. On the Hosco truss rod, the supplied adjuster has an outside diameter of 9mm. I ended up buying a smaller 7mm outside diameter truss rod adjuster from a company called Black Dog Music. It has an M5 thread which fits the Hosco truss rod but takes an M4 hex key, rather than the supplied adjuster's M5 hex key. They also do an imperial threaded version.

I do remember Julia - and your experience immediately came to mind when the one I ordered came in. The reduced diameter adjuster is about £5 or thereabouts and I was tempted… then I noticed that on the two latest ones I bought the adjuster is smaller than the previous one - so much closer to being ground down without too much trouble. Alongside that I also decided to ensure the rods I sell are flattened and rounded at the nose end, so I’m resigned to some (positive) mods being done on any I sell as a kit.

@@SamDeeksRelovedGuitars Where do you sell these kits? If I'd known you sell kits I probably would've bought one.

@@julialacey1604 I only just started… a few people asked me around the same time if I did so it pushed me to do it. It has to be at a price that makes it worth doing for me; so I had to figure out how I could add decent value.

Nice bass; this one has real rosewood unlike the Squier Indonesian made instruments that are using Indian laurel, which is decent but not as nice as rosewood.
Happy Belated Birthday to you sir!

Thank you! Agree with you on Indian Laurel... My favourite is still ebony (but a stripey dark rosewood is pretty luscious too!)

51:30 not my guitar but I have had issues with bridges embedding the factory ground wire into the body and grounding becomes intermittenent or non-existent. i'm sure you have done these types of repairs before but what I like to do is stuff the bridge wire down a screw hole so that when you screw the bridge back on it makes better contact. You can also create a contact patch with a piece of Copper tape. Cheers from Toronto 🍺🇨🇦

Hi Chris - that's a good point. I often deliberately do that (and sand up / scratch up the underside of the bridge as well to remove any gunk in the way). But yes - beware that little 'pressed-in' trench that the wire has created in the finish!

Green belt means nothing. Not in my back yard, Sam? You can't beat the system, and devaluation of property, I'm council estate trash, always will be. Happy birthday, we've survived to be moaning old men. Thump, twang!

Eric I'm same as you; live in Housing Association rental property having done little conventionally 'right' (far less in the 'right order') in my life. Not complaining; that's just how it is. I'm very grateful for a stable, fairly reasonable rental cost - at least compared to the private rental market. I think some of the opposition in the village would be surprised to understand that I'm motivated ONLY by principle in this matter. Can barely see the site from 'our' garden; have no property, land or any other kind of financial interest. Just principle - of doing things the RIGHT way. I haven't lost anything with that deicsion; I did everything in my power to ensure the process was done right and I'm satisfied I could do no more.
