I never thought about the concept of their jump mobility but its a nice attention to detail because in street fighter once you commit to jumping forward you can't move back
Bruh that’s how I feel. I recently joined my high school’s esports team, initially only joined rocket league but they needed more people for a full smash team so I joined. With over a year of no practice, I 2 stocked my first opponent twice to win the set of 3 easily and my main weapon of choice was fireballs and tastumakis
Dude I remember practicing Ryu in the jank & salty *For Glory* sm4sh days. Felt like I was actually learning martial Arts, lol. I pretended people's combo videos were old scrolls a master was giving me. *bows* I can't wait to see if an old dog can learn new tricks.
i have almost 1k hours online just as ryu. but i really only use very fundamentals. i would say that playstyle is competitively viable especially for your locals. but you do have to learn more advanced stuff if youre up against anyone with decent mu knowledge. even with all my hours, i find the ryu discords ive joined are full of actual jerks who make the learning process hell. the only ways ive actually learned anything is through tutorials who all say the same things over and over. THIS tutorial is by far the best ryu tutorial ive ever seen. sure, it doesnt take very long to explain something like kara-cancelling, something i still struggle with. but it tells everything you actually need to know about the character, advanced or basic. and the BIGGEST PLUS for this tutorial is it tells you why you might choose a certain option and when its good. phenomenal work IzAw. even I learned stuff from this tutorial. and your wording for the things i did know was spot on and i wish i knew this stuff sooner. big props.
Awesome. I waited since Smash 4 to see Art of Ryu. So happy to finally see it come to life. Only thing I'll say is: The only reason to use regular Neutral B instead of true input Hadoken, is cause the input for it is faster and easier. Sure you lose some damage, but you'll almost never misinput it, and you can react whiff punish with it with a little more wiggle room cause you don't have to do the stick input. Also Heavy Fireballs at mid range is unreactable so using that to your advantage in neutral is a key part of neutral. Allowing for conditioning. Just some thoughts. :)
Thank you!!! I have played Ryu at the Halmstad/Jönköping Ultimate events for a while now. This pointed out some stuff i didn't fully understand and gave me a couple of new ideas.
These videos always make me feel like I'm gonna be a master lmao But I have been wanting to get good at Ryu and definitely gonna try to apply this stuff
Salam IzAw, man, to wake up and see this in the news feed is definitely hype! This was packed with great information, excellent upload, and the SF5 music was a great touch! Can't wait to see the next upload!
z motion. that was the answer to consistent shoryuken and power dunk. i always tried to like, ride along the edge of the joystick and sometimes i'd just get other inputs. I feel dumb but it all makes sense now, thank you so much.
Before this video, the FGCs always seemed very esoteric to me; I could never get the hang of them, even when I got the inputs down. Their gameplan was just too foreign to me as a smash player. This video goes over SO much more than the inputs, and it helps a lot. Thank you for demystifying these bois 🙌🏾❤
i think either ken or snake next would be great, there's not actually too many snake guides out there so i think your input would be helpful, same with ken
Those are some sf2 looking combos, especially comboing into jumping heavies from crouching shorts. Generally Ryu in this game can combo off of attacks that you would never combo off of in street fighter, comboing off of far forward for example is nearly unheard of.
Playing Ryu is a lot of fun. But my execution is ass. L/M/H depending on button hold is something I suck at. Which is why I main Terry. And I miss certain parts of Smash 4 Ryu's kit, but Smash Ultimate Ryu does a lot really well and he really transformed. Great Guide IzAw!
I never played much smash but I wish I had ultimate to mess with ryu/ken/terry/kazuya... and also because I've come to appreciate it more in general, even without the intricacies of melee's specific system. but most especially to mess with these characters I already know and love from other games (which hey, is the main reason people play smash obviously)
I didnt see the whole vid but i have a tech If you full hop and right after (not like at the same time) side B That allows you a ascending side B, good for clean anti airs following to an escape or smth
Want a lesson? Go here: metafy.gg/@izaw
Please do Art of Diddy Kong next
And Art of Terry please
Honestly it’s about u do a art of outside of sword fighters
Art of ness would be amazing
Please Art of Ken
Art of making an epic come-back.
Trueee
All
Ryu
Does
In every game he’s in
I never thought about the concept of their jump mobility but its a nice attention to detail because in street fighter once you commit to jumping forward you can't move back
I don't even main Ryu but IM HYPED
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING
I’m with you guys lmaooo
Correct: Ryu's Shoryuken strength windows are actually 1-3, 4-5, and 6+. 1-2, 3-4, and 5+ are the windows for Ken's
I love Ryu because I like traditional fighting games but the light medium heavy system makes me go insane
instructions unclear, won a local by spamming fireball

I’ve been waiting for this for so long!!! As an exclusive Ryu main in smash, I’m super hyped!
Even though I would probably never main some of the characters in these art of videos, they always make me want to, it's crazy. Great content 👍

Felt like I was actually learning martial Arts, lol.
I pretended people's combo videos were old scrolls a master was giving me.

I can't wait to see if an old dog can learn new tricks.
I’ve played traditional fighting games for years and I played ultimate since release and the very fact sakurai implemented Chara cancels is insane

16:38 one of the sauciest Ryu clips I’ve ever seen
That was saucy that was bullying to the top degree lmao
Totally!
Could not happen to a more deserving then that lame dlc char.

I've been a ryu player since smash 4 and this was so refreshing and eye opening
Thank you, Izaw. I never knew about this. This will definitely make me a better Ryu player.
People think the SF characters are hard when they really aren't tbh. People should give them a chance
Thank you!!! I have played Ryu at the Halmstad/Jönköping Ultimate events for a while now. This pointed out some stuff i didn't fully understand and gave me a couple of new ideas.
Nice, maybe we can play in Malmö one day :)
@@IzAw Hell yeah man
These videos always make me feel like I'm gonna be a master lmao
But I have been wanting to get good at Ryu and definitely gonna try to apply this stuff
You content recently got me into smash I am so glad your back!!
Salam IzAw, man, to wake up and see this in the news feed is definitely hype! This was packed with great information, excellent upload, and the SF5 music was a great touch! Can't wait to see the next upload!
17:16 HOLY SHIT I AM LEARNING THIS WHAT
Same man. My Peach friend is always teasing me that I should pick up Kazuya to win more. Wait 'til he Fairs into lvl 3 Focus this time 8)
i was literally about to try and learn ryu, tysm!!
Yoooooo the new intro?!? Love to watch these art of videos man, excited for whatever's coming next!
Im so glad you got your channel back!! 🙌
it would also take me 7 months to learn Ryu
Nahh you sell yourself short lol
Ryu will take about a week to fully understand everything
It WILL take you a couple months to start winning, however…
@@tinyt.w.i.m7291 lmao
U learn him yet?
really nice to see more ryu content
z motion. that was the answer to consistent shoryuken and power dunk. i always tried to like, ride along the edge of the joystick and sometimes i'd just get other inputs. I feel dumb but it all makes sense now, thank you so much.
Loving the new intro animation! Great content as usual :)
Bruh some of these clips are absolutely nuts. That Ryu vs Joker one was crazy asf
This video helped me a lot. Thank you!
Your stylish of editing and explaining is amazing as always Izaw!
I enjoyed your videos and Sub you a very long time ago from Brawl days. :)
Great job doing this video, really appreciate it
Very hyped to see a new "Art of"! Thanks for all you do!
Ryu mains we up!
I feel like my life has been missing these videos. Welcome back
This came out solid, good shit as always
Thank you :)
My teacher! Your advice helps me in tournaments. Thank you.
Yooooo cool new intro btw hope see art of Sonic soon gj n great vídeo dude
i think either ken or snake next would be great, there's not actually too many snake guides out there so i think your input would be helpful, same with ken
You should look up poppinswiss for snake content!
Ryu as you main you enjoy your time play for satisfaction with him like Nair into side b. Ryu takes work, skill, and patience and I like that.
Me learning after all these years that the shoryu input ends in DOWN right, not up right
Maybe that’s why I’ve been so bad at inputting it
I walked this path long time ago as a Ryu main since Smash 4.
Love these tips and the Crash Bandicoot font for the percent!
Duuude love your content!!! Ever thought about doing an art of DK or Ness?
Took long enough I’ve been waiting for this
Those are some sf2 looking combos, especially comboing into jumping heavies from crouching shorts. Generally Ryu in this game can combo off of attacks that you would never combo off of in street fighter, comboing off of far forward for example is nearly unheard of.
I secondary Ryu and I feel like I learned a ton
Was literally searching for this yesterday.
Hope these come out more often I love them. Waiting for Ganon since the game came out.
Art of Ken
Hell...yeah. Waiting for these for years.
amazing intro
YES IZAW IS UPLODING AGAIN!!
One day art of snake will come
this video is amazing, as expected at this point. no other resource like it. now PLEASE PLEASE DO KEN PRETTY PLEEEEEASE
Now, With an understanding of my abilities. Go out there and Smash!!
THE LEGEND HAS RETURNED
I've been interesting in picking up ryu for a long time but to play well is so hard
thanks for the great content
Ryu's SF4 theme is so hype!!
Ryu has the most beautiful combos in the game imo.
Shout out to my man Mak the Knife!!!
You have GOT to mention negative edge. Really important and is the barrier to most people picking up this character.
When the world needed him most, he returned
honestly a vid on the art of pichu or wario would be chill considering i kinda main both of them
I would say Ryu is really balanced. Some technicalities, but still well rounded
Thanks for the video. I miss your content
Return of the king
HES BACK BABY
Playing Ryu is a lot of fun. But my execution is ass. L/M/H depending on button hold is something I suck at. Which is why I main Terry.
And I miss certain parts of Smash 4 Ryu's kit, but Smash Ultimate Ryu does a lot really well and he really transformed.
Great Guide IzAw!
Art of OG Fighter Game Players
I applaud the effort into this video. Ken next???
8:06 how do you special cancel consistently ?
I’ve done dair tatsu before but don’t remember if it was command input or side b
Bro, I’m listening to this and all these tactics are ripped from street fighters holy snap l I never took in how TRUE he is to his game .
Whose clips did you use for the unnamed Ryu player? Those were pretty nasty set up/combos lol
thanks for the tips
Whenever I try to do the fireball (the one made of actual fire) half the time I just end up doing down B or side B
Finally I can learn them
Welcome back bro
Aw, what did Kirby ever do to Link? Lol. Nice intro.
I hope u can do an art of incineroar or Lucas next but all and all good video izaw
No way
I’m HYPED
izaw you really did me dirty in that intro 😭
Nice new intro dude
Huh, and i was thinking of maining ryu. Anyways welcome back, been a while.
I’m a street fighter and ssb player.
No issue on inputs until platforms or weird backwards inputs come in😅
It's crazy how in depth this game can be
never thought I'd see the day we'd get a shoto vid
I will never play Ryu, however the videos are so quality I will always watch.
FGCs are a skill most pros don’t have. Give Ryu a shot. He’s easy to learn and difficult to master.
Great video!
Bro; I thought u died…welcome back!!
Love when zaw posts
Yes I love this can you do peach?
TIL Ryu mains play 4D chess in all torunaments they partake in.
I didnt see the whole vid but i have a tech
If you full hop and right after (not like at the same time) side B
That allows you a ascending side B, good for clean anti airs following to an escape or smth
Un art of ken y terry si se puede pero muy buen video
so excited
For the life of me I can't figure out how you back air moving forward
