"Smells Like Teen Spirit "changed everything and it was such an amazing time to just be alive.
It was. I’m so glad I was alive then. The sunsets never will seem as bright as it did then
a tip : you can watch movies on instaflixxer. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Abdullah Kaison Yup, I've been watching on InstaFlixxer for months myself =)
CZcams getting too comfortable with these double unskippable adds
Those piss me off.
And why are they advertising a bloody paedophile every time?!
How about those that play before the video you're about to play lol
It's like they are harrassing us to buy premium. Screw that
CZcams lost it completely!
There's almost no reason to not like grunge
well it's kinda depressing tbf. i love it personally but it's not hard to see why people might not like it
I love it
@@Ashleyscott27 that's good but i was really hoping to hear what ashley thinks of it
Uh, because a lot of it was three chord and very formulaic? With the exception of AiC and Soundgarden, it wasn't very flexible. I say that as someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s. Nirvana was massively overrated, because of Kurt.
@@LiquidDIO AIC and Soundgarden were not flexible. They were unflexibly hard rock bands. If you want something non formulaic then check out Dinosaur Jr, Melvins, Malfunkshun, Mudhoney, Rein Sanction.
Let's not forget that Seattle also gave Jimi Hendrix.
Man not for nothing but ALICE IN CHAINS does not get enough respect at all!!!! It’s all about Kurt... Layne and Chris were not only the catalyst for that whole movement but two of the best vocalist that ever lived. Period.
You know I'm a SOUNDGARDEN cult-o-phile but, I'll say this again, "If it weren't for SOUNDGARDEN Alice In Chains would be my favorite band of all time, period.
Therefore, AliceMudGarden and the song, Right Turn were/are the greatest thing ever created in the history of mankind.
Seriously, fellow Grunge-bro, Alice In Chains defers/bows to no one.

@@inutero10 they were the first grunge band out of the big 4 to come out. Quick being jealous that Layne was better than Kurt lol
@@OscarOffTheCuff lol. Facelift made little noise. Ten made little noise. Soundgarden made little noise. Then came nevermind and the rest is history. Metal heads are so insecure when it comes to Nirvana. Smh.

I am still grunge at heart. My life since 1991 and now 2021 still listening to all those bands.
as far as I'm concerned grunge will never die!
Same here maga make America grunge again
🤘💀🤘
Grunge cannot be duplicated. The beauty and genuine emotions captured in the tunes. The records are a real time capsule. Literally. We will never see a scene like this ever again
Sure we can duplicate grunge, when the time comes it’ll be called “grunge revival” 😂
I think there will be another scene that captures the rawness, emotion, and genuiness of grunge. But that will only happen if they don’t try to be grunge or anything else, they gotta be them, I gotta remind myself of that a lot when I write music.
Though very possible, I hope you’re proven wrong.
I was in high school 88-92. Great time for some music. Saw Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Still love “grunge”!

I’ve lived in Seattle most of my life. Gotta love the grunge scene.
I honestly want to move there, is there still a large rock underground?

Layne was doing so many projects. Three bands and side tracks as well. I don’t understand what he/AIC have to do to get recognized?!
I envy Chester for having seen Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers live. I only saw the latter once.
IKR???? Lucky!!!!
you saw the shitty band of the 3
SoJack Black said here that first hearing and seeing Nirvana was like what it must have been like to see Led Zeppelin for the first time - well, that's exactly how I felt when I saw Soundgarden live for the first time in 1990. They totally blew me away and the way the crowd was grooving in unison to their music took the experience to another level.
"Fell On Black Days" honestly speaks to me after my Mother's Death more than any therapy or medication ever could. I appreciated Joey Diaz talking about that song. I wrote out the lyrics in my Journal 🖤
that was awesome to hear the way he talked about how it affected him. I liked Joey before but now i have that much more respect for him.
The reason we only got one song, Right Turn, from an ALICE IN CHAINS + SOUNDGARDEN compilation was because of this: During the recording session the sheer force of energy that was produced when L. Staley & C. Cornell occupied the same space was so strong, so powerful that it almost reached critical mass & split the atom.
Right before the last notes were recorded J. Cantrell noticed a strange aura of blue/white electricity envelope the studio as K. Thayil became aware of the heavy, ionic disturbance that indicated a dangerous level of Bad-Ass radiation they had not prepared for! Cornell & Staley should have been separated in their own lead-lined chambers but, it was too late, they had overlooked this & now the entire western U.S. was in danger.
But, as Cantrell & Thayil were just becoming aware of the danger, M. Cameron, super-stud drummer, let out an involuntary "Noooooooooooooo" as he leapt from his drum throne toward the main power outlet, together w/S. Kinney grabbed the bundle of cords sending electrical current to the studio & yanked them clear from the outlet just in time to avert disaster.
After realizing what had occurred, the members of both bands + Mark Arm agreed they couldn't attempt this again, it was just too dangerous. Technology was not advanced enough to harness & control the amount of Bad-Ass energy created when these Grunge gods got too close to one another.
So, in order that mankind would not be destroyed we only got one song from the AliceMudGarden session.
True fucking story.

I hate to make it a competition but ALICE IN CHAINS was the best. RIP LAYNE STALEY
Dirt is one of greatest albums ever, front to back. I saw them a couple years back and they are still great. No one can replace Layne, but William DuVall sounds amazing and they still have the great harmonies and now two guitars.
11 years old in '91. Still remember the first time I heard Love Buzz, Sliver, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Lithium, Heart Shaped Box, Man in the Box, Rooster, Would?, Them Bones, Down in a Hole, River of Deceit, Hunger Strike, Say Hello to Heaven, Black Hole Sun, Fell on Black Days, Spoonman, Creep (Radiohead), Creep (STP), Dead and Bloated, Plush, Interstate Love Song, Big Empty, Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Black, Yellow Ledbetter, Daughter, Elderly Woman, Dissident, Corduroy, Better Man, Nothing Man, Under the Bridge, Give it Away, Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Unforgiven, This is a Call, Big Me, Monkey Wrench, Loser, Where It's At, Jackass, Novocaine for the Soul, Oh So Quiet, No Rain, Doll Parts, Champagne Supernova, Zombie, Self Esteem, Come Out And Play, Rhinoceros, Landslide, Mayonaise, Cherub Rock, Today, Tomorrow (Silverchair), Basket Case, Longview, When I Come Around, Everything Zen, Come Down, Swallowed, What Would You Say, Ants Marching, Satalite, Crash Into Me, What I Got, Santaria, Wrong Way, Just a Girl, Spiderwebs, Dont Speak, Down, All Mixed Up....not to mention all the ever present New Jack Swing, hip-hop, gangsta rap, R 'n' B, girl groups, boy bands, death metal, Aerosmith, Guns n Roses, Brittney Spears....man, the 90's... Well fucking said 💯🤘🏻
Can’t take anything away from Nirvana but as Joey Diaz said, when Man In the Box hit MTV that was the beginning, Make NO mistake about it!
Feeeeeeed Myyyyy Eyyyyyes, it was like What did I just see n hear!
People can debate who had the better voice but Layne n his never ending hair style changes n shades changed what being a front man was all about. IDGAF n still look KooL!
I feel like there'll be a new rock movement in the future. Especially since of the abundance of time. I've been hearing a lot of guitar from more underground and borderline mainstream artists adopting a more rock sound and guitar is really getting more popular online.
I honestly feel like something might be on the horizon eventually. Probably just a short little thing like Industrial was, but I think Hip-Hop has kind of hit its peak, like rock did in 90's. I'd love to see something happen and I'm very interested in what kind of music it would be. Who knows though, jazz might take over next.
I recently though the same

how do you do that
@@lukaas7278 look under this video description, where it says join. It explains all about it 😊
Michael Stipe's (REM) speech (at the end of the video) most closely and poignantly captured the essence of what that grunge era was like and how personally it resonated with so many disenfranchised people who were tired of the system. He wrote the song "Let Me In" for Kurt after his passing. It addresses his regret that there wasn't anything he or the world could do to stop what would eventually culminate to us all losing Kurt. It is a powerful song. Stipe was actually due to collaborate with Nirvana on a new record that Kurt said would be a change in direction from the raw guitars of their previous records. Something ethereal and softer with acoustic sounds. Stipe says they had it all set up and a plane ticket ready but Kurt cancelled and shortly after, he was dead.
Send these please
Alice In Chains should’ve been mentioned more and Stone Temple Pilots should’ve been mentioned. The best grunge groups in my opinion.
they just weren't as popular, they were amazing I agree completely but they weren't as popular
Prefer Alice to STP, although nirvana were the first and most influential, sorry Alice fans
@@donniewynn3277 Whats up with you and thinking a band is great for its influence and everything revolves around that. Something thats less known can be better than something more known. You made your point and thats great. Now stop cause you are being repetitive. Aic is my all time favourite band, but i listen to a lot of Nirvana. Both mean a lot to me and i like all of their album except the majority of songs on Nevermind. I like Nirvanas grittier, more raw sounding songs and Nevermind was full of songs that were meant to be played on radio 24/7 and they were. I respect that Kurt at least said it was his intention to make a poppier album.
You're right something less known can be better than something well known. Alot ( not all) but alot of Alice fans hate on nirvana and I get offensive cause their my favorite band, I apologize. I do believe influence is important to some degree though. Elvis was the biggest influence to the Beatles and old blues singers influenced elvis and so on. It's not everything but important imo. And yes Nevermind is overplayed and too polished. My favorite is in utero personally and my favorite Alice album is dirt.
Does anyone remember that time when there were no ads on CZcams....those were the days!
I miss that time 🥺
Most people consider Stone Temple Pilots as "post grunge". To me, they were a very underrated grunge band. Great vocals and musicians. They didn't get near the credit they should have!
They were SoCal, they didn’t want to be a grunge band but ironically their first album was the most grungiest sounding album ever made
They literally came out with their debut album after Pearl Jam and Sound Garden... who told you this? "post grunge"?
Man I never thought I could love Joey Diaz more.
Greetings from the Philippines! We definitely love Grunge!
Long live AiC, SoundGarden, STP, Nirvana, Pearl Jam
And mudhoney

I love how serious young people take it now and how many jokes went through the entire Seattle "scene".
I am not seeing nearly enough about Alice in Chains on here. What about the Ann Wilson clip? You could have used that.
I remember only listening to 60, 70s rock and I was in 7th grade when grunge started and was like " what is this?". But it was good. Two songs specifically that take me back instantly like a time portal is
1- Bulls on parade- Rage against the machine
2-Black hole Sun- SOUNDGARDEN

Long live Chris Cornell.
Grunge took my life and completely flushed it down the toilet. I wouldn't change a thing.
When "grunge" came along I was so thankful. It wasn't just hair metal but emo tech that was out. I already knew about some of these bands but to hear them get radio play was massive. I love Nirvana but actually had to pull my car off the road when Pearl Jam finally broke. Was still waiting for the stations to get into Soundgarden at that time.
Chris, layne, kurtdt, Scott, Andrew, shannon, all gone. Eddie's still here.
Still Alive
Keep up the greatness! This video makes me smile
Grunged is resumed in Nirvana for you guys! Lars and James always mention the greatness of Dirt album, but there is only Jerry Cantrell talking about his own band man, respect Alice in Chains they were and still HUGE
Yea. Fuck Metallica. Making fun of layne
Chester Bennington talking about Nirvana was very important and so touching.
Every time I hear Michael Stipe speak, I’m staggered.
It still amazes me that at grunges inception a band like Tool was lumped into the grunge genre just because they toured a lot with bands like alice and chains and soundgarden
I like Tool, but they were progressive metal
Yes but the angsty side and dirty feel had writers starting to try to compare them to those bands early on. The more proggy stuff really took off on aenema and exploded with lateralus
@@donniewynn3277 there were elements early but refined later

Grunge was more a look and an attitude than a sound, because none of the "Big 4 Of Grunge" bands sounded similar to each other.
Pleasantly surprised at snoop Dogg
The music is awesome and great bands
Lane Staley, oft imitated, never equalled.
As a side note there is another vocalist that implemented the "yarl" as it's kinda become known that was way before Lane. Go listen to some old George Jones and you'll hear something similar. I have no idea if it influenced his vocal style or not, but I'd be surprised if Staley had never heard "He Stopped Loving Her Today" before he began singing.
Punk started in England but was very big in New York, then Grunge came up on the West Coast, and took root in Seattle. But this is why it was such a powerful, transformative wave: because it came up at the same time as the dot com boom and in every way paralleled it. It rode to great heights on that concurrent wave. Now people weren’t wearing suits to work but were dressed down, relaxed, and an entire social Revolution was taking place. Grunge came up after the economic recession of the ‘80’s, when it seemed, in the 90’s, that the “power of culture and self determinance” could be given more to the people, largely because of the Internet, rather than to the “puppet masters” of society, and so the grassroots passion was very strong. Everything we realized up until 2016 to some degree, was spawned in the Grunge movement.
Nope Punk rock started in USA and was shortly after adapted by bands from other countries. Bands from England played big role in the first time Punk rock broke in the to mainstream.
For example Crust Punk started in England in 80's but as general Punk started in USA.
I say Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Pearl jam, Nirvana and Billie Eilish
