  • How to keep your cool when people attack your Catholic Faith!
On the next episode of Catholic Feedback, Keith welcomes author and speaker Steve Ray to discuss his experiences and perspectives on this topic. Steve spent many years as an anti-Catholic and knows the arguments against the faith better than anyone. This promises to be a fascinating conversation that will help you to know who to navigate not only hard conversations, but your own responses when you are attacked.

It is indeed a discouraging experience. I have similar problem with my brother. However, the joy of thinking about that someday my brother will come back home makes the sadness and frustration I have with my brother during our conversations worth it. God cares and loves my brother much more than I do. So I firmly believe that as long as I keep praying for my brother and try my best to engage him in our conversation, God will sure take care of everything. Just a friendly reminder that God is always by your side even in time of desolation, and you can do all things in accordance to His holy will in Him who strengthens you. Also, when you’re bashed for being Catholic, you’ve become more Christ-like. Jesus also experienced isolation, hatred, and all sort of sad things. And blessed art thou who suffered because of His Name. I always see it as an opportunity to grow closer to Jesus. I will pray for your family and you as well. Please stay strong.

Steve Ray is so convincing/has integrity because, 1) he so despised what he thought was the Catholic Church; 2) he is very knowledgeable about the bible; 3) he is such a devout, Godly man. If Steve Ray says the Catholic Church is the Church that Christ started, and it continues through the centuries (GK Chesterton in "Orthodoxy" uses the analogy of a Knight on a horse, galloping furiously through 20 centuries, sometimes falling to the right, then the left, but stays on the horse triumphantly!) but most importantly, the Catholic Church has kept the orginal deposit of faith given and taught by the Apostles. When I was a little girl, I was being trained to be a missionary for Catholics. I knew the baptists were wrong and sacrilegious. I became agnostic until I met a Catholics priest. I was hurting so badly. So many protestant ministers tried to convert me and they sickened me. I never argued with friends and relatives. They prophecied God's punishment for me. They made up horrible stories about me from trying to murder my children, drugs, alcohol, prostitution, and others. They managed to get me into courts to put me in prison. I went into court with my rosary and one each time. Eventually, a judge gave an order stating no one was to make another accusations against me legally. The accusations were so dangerous, no relatives are permitted to have any contact with me, my youngest daughter, and grandchildren. Don't think protestants are "believers" like Catholics. My relatives are evangelists and I was raised with so many of the big names. Billy Graham was not what he appeared to be. Is my faith worth it? Absolutely. Elis - my aunt was married to a non-Catholic from a Baptist family that doesn't believe baptism is necessary. They were married for more than 50 years. I never knew he wasn't Catholic until he died last year, but he was baptized, confirmed, and received First Holy Communion about 2 weeks before he died. I had just assumed he was Catholic because my aunt has always been very involved in the parish, and all their kids are still faithful Catholics as adults. But after his death, I learned that my aunt had been praying for his conversion throughout their marriage and even before. Then when he was diagnosed with a deteriorating brain condition similar to Alzheimer's, she was distraught with grief, fearing that he wouldn't go to heaven. She wasn't afraid that he'd suffer eternal punishment, necessarily, because he was a faithful husband and a rock solid father who set the tone that kept his kids faithful to the Church, and he did love Jesus Christ. So there was hope that he wasn't going to the eternal lake of fire. But without baptism he could at best only spend eternity in the place of natural happiness, yet outside of heaven. Maybe God isn't bound by His Sacraments, but we can't presume that Jesus was only kidding when he said baptism is necessary. So after his diagnosis, my aunt met with her priests for counsel. They always advised prayer, but then the current priest told her right away to entrust her husband to Our Lady. You can consecrate yourself to Our Lady, _with_ every relationship and everything that is yours by right of the Natural Law, including your loved ones, your husband or wife and children. So my aunt did that. She stopped worrying and trusted Our Lady. Over time, Uncle Ron lost more cognitive abilities, especially memory, so that he couldn't have a meaningful conversation. But my aunt continued to show him family albums and talk about the memories. One day she showed him a picture of his own special aunt who was a very loving Christian woman. He asked where she was, and my aunt told him, "She's in heaven." Uncle Ron said, "I want to go to heaven. I want to be baptized." It was so out of the blue that it startled my aunt, but she promised to call his family's minister. She didn't want to presume that Uncle Ron meant he wanted to be Catholic, since he always went to the Baptist services. But the Baptist minister was on vacation, so she called her own parish priest to ask for counsel. The priest came to talk with Uncle Ron, and Uncle Ron told him he wanted to be baptized Catholic, he wanted to be Catholic. And so the priest baptized him and confirmed him, and administered Holy Communion. My cousins were there, they saw and heard their Dad make the declaration freely. So consecrate yourself to Our Lady with all your relationships and everything that is yours by right of the Natural Law, entrust your children to her, and don't worry, just keep making the short form of the Consecration every morning, maybe also even at night.

As a Catholic l'm always touched by people like you who become a real Catholic Faith. And It's so amazing that you guys know more and believe trully in the Catholic Faith than hundreds of Catholics who claimed to be Catholic but acting on the wrong way. Even some leaders of the Church are so deceiving. God bless you and your family Mr Keith and Mr Rey.

Keith. Don't be disappointed about your chiodren. Pray for them. Together with your wife.In God's time and in His own way. Remember when Jesus spoke to the crowd about eating His Body and drinking His Blood?Scripture said that many walked away. Jesus NEVER told them and He would explain what He meant. No. He respected their choice (freewill). So just pray for them especially to Our Blessed Mother Mary.Say the ROSARY and leave their conversion to Her Prayers. God bless you.

Keith and Steve. You are actually right, 2 weeks ago I had a confrontatión , with a coworker she started yelling that Virgin Mary was dead, that preists abused of children , I told her just because a priest did wrong that doesn't mean all priest are the same, that Virgin Mary is not dead she is with her son jesus , remember the mount Tabor whe was there with Jesus Moses and Elias so if the are not dead what makes you think that Mary is dead, etc. And I did get nad when she said that stuff. . I told her that the ignorant were them for thinking that we think Mary and the Saints are . God. God Bless you guys

Hello, from the Philippines! I love both you and Steve Ray. I also loved Estelle’s story. I am so glad you have this talk about keeping our cool when defending our faith. We Filipino Catholics are bullied by those non Catholics. For my part, I don’t want to lose my temper so I just end the conversation. I may not memorize all the number of verses, but I do know what is said. I am not good with numbers, but I am good with words. So thank you for this talk.

@Halley lujah's. Lizzie is one of the woman apologist. How does one become an apologist ? I believe
      1. Love the Catholic faith
      2. Love it enough to want to defend it against lies, misinformation and disinformation as well as false teachers as prophesied in the bible
      3. Feel strongly about going after the 1 lost sheep
      4. Watch apologetic videos and relevant materials
      5. Learn the history of the Bible and the history of the church
      6. Know the teachings and beliefs of the Early Church
      staycatholic.com/early-church-fathers/
      7. Remember to defend with love and gentleness
      8. Formulate and structure the various defenses - the standard questions will come out.
      9. Apologetics is defence of 2000 years of Magisterial teachings against
      a. Protestant questions
      b. Orthodox questions
      c. Rad Trads and SSPX / Sedevanctists
10 understand how the above 3 group thinks whilst not be influenced by them.

I appreciate the mental health advocacy/ struggle too. There are other Woman apologist that may be equally qualified. Katie Prejean McGrady comes to mind. Meg Hunter Kilmer. Met a beautiful one this morning Monet AHM on Instagram. Sometimes women do apologetics differently. Loving the person not fighting the ideas. peace brother. Thanks
