    This a great tool for folk who just want to compose. People put too much focus on performance, when writing is just as integral a part of music. It's not cheating if it was never the goal in the first place.

      Composing is the actual brilliant part of every song/piece. Performance is mainly skill and practice, composing on the other hand requires creativity/ vast knowledge about theory (Assuming the composition is extremely novel). It's like the difference between an architect and a brick layer.
      although performing can be creative in some instances, as in jazz or any improv-heavy music. But again, improvisation is at its core, also a form of composing.

    So my 1st review of the Shreddage 3 Hydra. It is an amazing tool that comes with waaaaay more samples and sounds than I could ever possibly need or use. It's amazing in fact that the team put this library together and for only $149. I've had a few hours to play with it before reading the manual and I've figured out a few things that got fairly impressive results. Fast forward to reading the manual (I probably should have done that 1st) and I see that everything I needed to know was laid out clearly. I have had a great deal of trouble getting my GR-55 pick up to control the library, but I'll keep working on it. Overall I think that Jupiter would have been a good fit for the music that I do and the way that write for simplicity's sake but I don't regret for a second paying the same price for SO MUCH MORE!!

    I love the "Rake" sound from this new engine, it really puts emphasis to a tone when needed. Shreddage is the king in terms of brutal tones and aggressive playing, period! However, the slide legato is still(since the day of Shreddage 1 & 2) a pain in the ass to trigger, we need to set the correct hand position and string for it to be achieved (let alone setting up the fast or slow slide, if there are any way to do it), it's too complicated. I wish we can trigger the articulation as easy as OTS, or Prominy.

    • @ImpactSoundworksLLC
      @ImpactSoundworksLLC  Před 4 lety +9

      You don't need any special positioning to trigger slides. By default, just hold the slide keyswitch and then play overlapping notes, that's it! It will always slide regardless of hand position. If you want to slide DOWN from a note to open string, there's a dedicated slide note underneath the playable range. Plus you can map the slide trigger to whatever you want (velocity based, CC, etc) so you don't have to use keyswitches at all if you don't want.

I have tried all of the settings I see here and the sound is still different. I noticed yours has a really cool stop between notes where as the one I have, just continues the tremolo with no stops (changing tremolo does not fix this). Also it would be fantastic if you could make the midi notes for this available. It could really help to answer a lot of questions. Thanks!

    In my opinion the sample recordings in general could be a lot better, especially the tremolo samples sound very dull and the tremolo engine from Jupiter works better than the Hydra's one. Other than that the samples sound a little bit cleaner than the previous vst e-guitars of Impact SoundWorks. There is a bit more improvement than before. I personally get lots of hiss when trying to get a high gain sound when using tremolo especially with power chords tremolo (even though the vst is not really designed to play tremolo power chords, at least with Jupiter you can get a decent performance close to a real guitar with them, but Hydra tremolo sounds too fake imo. Both samples produce the same hissing result in High Frequencies when passed through an amp though, Sad thing is you can't really EQ this hissing without making the the guitar sound bad because it loses colour and thanks to the badly recorded samples on both Jupiter and Hydra on the tremolo articulation it's hard to make it sound good enough. So, it needs a lot of work with EQ to make it sound as clean as humanly possible but you can never really kill that hiss without affecting the good sound on these high frequencies, unless there is some secret to it that I don't know of.) Palm mutes sound way better than before, huge improvement there. Good vst generally but has some weaknesses especially in the tremolo articulation. Good programming in general, I just wish it had the same tremolo programming as in Jupiter and much cleaner samples. Ample Sounds does a better job with their sample recordings than Impact Soundworks, but Impact Soundworks does a better job programming wise.. Other than that generally a nice vst. If ISW tried to make a better job at how their record their instrument they would be the best electric guitar vst by far from all the rest but still need to fix the above things to achieve it.

      When you double-track in a single patch (guitars 1+2 active) it already pans hard left and right! If you want totally different FX on each, the best solution here is to load the patch twice. Set them both to the same MIDI channel but separate Kontakt outputs. Then you can mix the outputs separately in your DAW. The first patch should have only guitar 1 active, second patch should have only guitar2.

    Please release a phrase library like Ujam or Native Instruments. Your guitar strumming system is too hard to program.

    Does anyone know how to make it so shreddage will play any 2 (or multiple) notes as a chord? For example, if I play 2 single notes back and fourth on the piano roll overlapping each other, it won't always register them like a chord. It plays them like 2 separate single notes. But I want them to play back like 2 notes playing over each other like a chord. It works sometimes, but rarely and it's random. Thank you for the help!

    • @ImpactSoundworksLLC
      @ImpactSoundworksLLC  Před 10 měsíci +1

      This happens because the engine is trying to figure out whether you want to do a quick hammer-on/pull-off, or a chord. It can also happen if it's not physically possible to play those two notes simultaneously.
      One solution is that you can go to the Articulations tab, go to Legato (Hammer/Pull), and change the "Range" from 2 semitones to 1.
      You could also go to the "Map" tab of Legato (Hammer/Pull), add a new "Rule", and pick a keyswitch. That way the hammer/pull legato will only trigger while HOLDING that keyswitch AND overlapping notes.
      Another is to switch to "Workstation" mode from the Performance Style menu.

      @@ImpactSoundworksLLC I feel like such a newb. I tried everything to the best of what I could understand. Still not quite working or maybe I'm just not doing it properly. It's not a huge deal but I definitely wish I understood better. It's certain chord patterns I'll put in and the "godzilla" chords that I can't get to work. Sounds dumb I know I'm sorry. I don't use them straight up very often but sometimes in the midst of a melodic chord part for a chorus, they bring that dark feel to something which I love. So whenever those parts play, it sounds silly not "chorded" lol.

      That is an optional feature on the main page using the multi-tracking feature. You can use a single guitar with a mono signal, or double-track with hard L/R outputs, or up to quad-track.

    why the fast run sounds synthesized, artificial and not sounds real. Sounds silly like a mid file. Something is missing ... otherwise this version is highly praised. The samples had dynamics? There were noises from fingers and a pick , but it still sounds poor when played fast.
