    I remember watching this when it aired. There was a lot of buzz about the new Bill Cosby series and this pilot did not disappoint. In the 80s this was the anchor to NBC's Thursday night line-up which was untouchable. The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers, Night Court, and Hill Street Blues. It may have been the greatest single night of programming ever.

    "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids" was a kids cartoon, with mostly black kids, produced by Bill Cosby in the 1970s. There was usually some sort of message to each episode. It was quite popular on Saturday morning TV. The voice of Fat Albert was played by Bill Cosby.
    This episode is titled "Playing Hookey" (1972)

    I have always just loved when Cosby reacts to Theo's heartfelt speech. It was like the audience was used to that sort of moment in the earlier sitcoms, and thought they were supposed to be on Theo's side. So everyone didn't expect that. Us old folks were waiting for it while you were lured in. :)

  • @dodger2829
    @dodger2829 Před 11 měsíci +4

    Some historical perspective: in 1984 the sitcom format was declared basically dead. The sitcoms of the 1970s (MASH, All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore, etc.) were considered the peak of the art form and nothing created from 1978 to 1984 was connecting with the public or the critics. Without much fanfare and very little expectation, Cosby brought "The Cosby Show" to TV and within a month it was the highest rated show on TV. It was #1 for the next 5 years and single-handedly brought NBC from last place to first place. "Family Ties", "Cheers", "Night Court" all owe their eventual success to their lead-in, "The Cosby Show." He and his show were a juggernaut in the 1980s.

    7:30 Bill Cosby Based the original Pilot of this TV show off of his standup comedy routine best displayed in his special “Bill Cosby ‘Himself’ “. Many of the lines used in the Pilot are straight from that special. I would highly recommend watching it because for me, in my mid-50s, this was life … Bill Cosby Himself was very relatable to me and I believe I watched every episode of the Cosby Show growing up.

    The Cosby show was a great show that is now lost because of what Cosby did. Its a shame because he took down all the other actors with him in terms of syndication and royalties. The thing about the pilot show is that follows Bill Cosby's standup routine he used to do before the show was created. Some of the things he says are word for word in what he uses in his routine. Its funny how no one talks about the show wow because honestly, its one of the best comedies ever made. It did get preachy later on, but i know i watched it from start to finish. It was funny because it ran during the time when Apartheid still reigned in South Africa and it was the number-one show in S. Africa at the time

    Knowing what we know now, we don't talk nearly enough about the fact that Dr. Huxtable was a gynecologist who practiced in his basement.

    I loved the cynical tone this pilot episode had. Unfortunately it lost that tone soon after. I guess that's why it was so popular but it lost me. Sadly everything that Cosby did is now filtered through his ugly personal life. It's tough to watch his stuff now, but I'll always love "I Spy". BTW You might want to give "Barney Miller" a try.
