      Yeah I have had a few of the feet fall off even with the reinforcement. I might try using a few more layers of wire if I make more.

    Turtle power, heroes in a half shell. My method is to go to the local nursery, complain about the price, get 5 or 6. Complain about the price again. Have them load it in the truck, drive home and have teen angst place them in the yard. 😃

    i was glued to this video! What a fun project. I made some plain octagon shaped pavers years and years ago for my flower bed, maybe its time to make more lol

      I have to make about 20 more. I got it down to making 1 per day, so I should have them all made by the first week of April 😄

    I bought one of these types of molds last year. Pretty happy with it so far. need to use it some more this summer.

    • @saltyshellback
      @saltyshellback  Před 3 lety

      I might try using some leftover tile cement to make one to see how it turns out.
      When it warms up, I may be able to crank out one per day.

    I thought turtle pavers was a new Girl Scout cookie you had discovered and were attempting to eat.😎 I like concrete, there is a lot of DIY stuff you can do with it at very low prices.

    cool. def need a mold release. ive been in the plasterers and cement masons union 30 years lol. form oil. its legit. nice upgrade on the high strength. prob be better for walking on and the wire if you get a crack. yours will def last better than cheap crete with no wire. a fiber additive would help as well. might sound weird but a female toy or back would come in handy. to vibrate the bubbles out. they use big ones on cables in wall pouring for the same reason. dang you must be making a bunch of them.

    • @saltyshellback
      @saltyshellback  Před 3 lety +1

      Awesome! Thanks for the tips! I need to make at least 26 of them. It's slow going with the cooler weather.
      I got plenty of chicken wire so I might double up at the head and front legs.

    Like many others, I seriously expected this to be a "bait and switch" and expected that you were making chocolate turtles...I guess your reputation proceeds you. Very cool project, I would just need to find a mold that was slightly more sinister.

    • @saltyshellback
      @saltyshellback  Před 2 lety

      No problem with the tail, but the. arms and legs tend to crack if the mold is not supported when the concrete is drying.

    The head came off mine and I glued it back on with E-6000 glue.

    • @saltyshellback
      @saltyshellback  Před 3 lety

      I put chicken wire between the head and the body. I learned that if you leave it in a cool place of at least 24 hours it is less likely to break. Also prop the outside of the mold under the head with some cardboard because it tends to sag there.
