First Rolleiflex with a 2.8 Xenotar was the 2.8C released for 1953. The Aurum was announced in 1982, released in 1983. A 30 year celebration.
Yayyy thanks!! Mystery solved 😃🤩🥳 That makes much more sense than a 55 year celebration 😆
Every week, you give us something new to buy. Thanks!!!!
Hahahaha you’re welcome!! 🤗
You buy things weekly without watching my shows anyway 😜
Awesome, awesome job Charlice! You have so much talent to share with the world! ❤🌹
Thank you so much Ron! I really appreciate your continued encouragement and support 😊
@@NoctiGirl you are very welcome Charlice!
Great video! According to Ian Parker, due to high demand, a second series of 1500 was made, so in total, around 2700 / 3000 Aurum were produced.
Wow thanks for this. I didn’t know that! 😃
Lovely great work just saw this today
This camera is impressive great presentation as always
Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching! 😊
Holy Grail indeed! That piece of art is painfully beautiful. I fell in love with TLRs when I got my Yashica Mat, which is still my favorite camera. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching! 😊 Wow! Someone else also mentioned how much they love their Yashica Mat! What makes it your favorite camera?? 😃
@@NoctiGirl Good question! I love shooting with the ground glass, waist-level viewfinder. The images it makes are incredibly crisp. Also, the camera itself is just gorgeous.
Ah.. I totally get it and can relate!! Something about that waist-level viewfinder makes me feel like a better shooter 😝
@@NoctiGirl Maybe there's something to that! It does help you see a larger image, after all.
Wow! Those were some amazing photos with an amazing camera! Great job Charlice!❤
Thank you so much Ron!! 😊
@@NoctiGirl you’re welcome Charlice! I was watching Kai W’s CZcams video, I believe it was 7 months old but he was interviewing this person that an amazing collection of the Rolleiflex cameras 😋
oh no way! Thanks for letting me know! I'll look it up 😊
@@NoctiGirl haha! I figured you would love that one! Take care Charlice!
Thanks! You too Ron! 😊
Luv your crisp nostelgic Rolleiflex camera design T-shirt! I purchased one with similar idea in what translated to "Flower St" from Cantonese in Hongkong some 20 yrs ago. The lady who sells it at the stall will print it out instantly after you select the white T-shirt size and she accidently iron the Rolleiflex camera logo upside down which i thought was neat as Rolleiflex cameras are rather quirky to begin with. Added bonus was it has Andy Worhol signature at the bottom of camera - could'nt authenticate artist actually illustrated it. Anyway, i purchased 2 from her with the other one right side up to mirror the image correctly and has kept it to this very day unworn. Perhaps i should frame both up in homeage to Worhol.
The Aurum certainly is blinky and desirable. Heartening knowing the younger generation still enamoured with Rolleiflex. I do own several Rolleiflexes one being the rather rare bought used Planar 2.8 E3 which professional photographers could custom order features they want or do not need from Rolleiflex for that model at that time. I've subscribed.
Haha thank you for watching and sharing your story with me! The Rolleiflex is definitely one of my favorite cameras. I love everything about it - the way it handles and feels in my hands. That planar lens also produces beautiful images 😊 I haven’t really taken out the Aurum much yet, but will definitely do so soon!
Go for it - shoot the 120's thru the double barrel!@@NoctiGirl
Beautiful camera overload lately 😍😍😍
😍😍😍
I remember after the Aurum a 2.8 Platin edition was produced a few years later. Around 500 were produced but the rrp of $9000 was hefty, and less conspicuous. Too sad I couldn't afford it. However, I'm extremely satisfied with my 3.5 Planar's superb performance.
It's crazy how much the prices have gone up on these cameras! When I first started looking at the Aurum, they were only about USD $3500. Don't get me wrong, that was still pricey, but nowadays they are about double that price or more. I also have a "shooter" 2.8 Planar which has helped me captured amazing images! The shininess of the Aurum is just to satisfy my love for shiny stuff. I am a woman after all... 😁💎🥰
I wish I could find any way to store and use this TLR; it's so beautiful.
To be honest, I’m always nervous when I take it out. It’s so beautiful but I’m also very careful 😅🥹
@@NoctiGirl I know how you feel because it's like a piece of art, and it's worth a lot. So, I think it may not be used as often as the regular version of the Rollei 2.8F. Otherwise, there is a chance of increased marks or damage.
This week at the Leski Auction in Melbourne, the second part of the Michael Family Camera Museum was auctioned. The 2.8F Aurum was sold for AUD$5000; the platinum version was sold for AUD$6500.
I couldn't go to the auction site due to work, so all my pre-bids online were exceeded at the auction site by AUD$500-1000 and were won by others.
I feel very sorry. So, I tried to find these versions of Rollei worldwide on the Internet.
I was lucky enough to find three 2.8F Aurums, one in Canada, one in my hometown of Taiwan, and one is yours.
I'd like to ask if you are interested in selling it.
I feel you treat your channel with great care and enthusiasm, and you reply to all messages individually. ❤👍🏻
Thank you so much! I definitely enjoy connecting with like-minded people who also love photography 😊 It just takes me time to get to all the messages sometimes... 😅
Unfortunately, I am not considering selling mine. It will probably be a forever camera for me! I've wanted it for a long time (more than a decade) and finally was able to acquire it last year. It's a dream come true for me.
Here in the U.S., I actually come across this camera quite often. Definitely not as often as in the past, but they are not super rare. Maybe you should try joining some of these Rolleiflex groups on Facebook. You might be surprised by how often you see them go around! Good luck! 😎
FYI. Aurum, the Latin word for gold and the source of its chemical symbol, "Au"
Yup! Just as silver is Ag 🙂
Hello!!!
lOVE THIS!!! AS ALWAYS!!!! thanks for the upload!!! Do you remember those small Rollies that were also functioning cameras? some might call them toys but they were real!
Thank you for watching as always! 😄 Haha are you talking about the Rollei baby or 35? They are definitely super cute!! I've actually been eyeing those Rollei 35s, though not sure how practical they are... 🤔
@@NoctiGirl I saw one of these in japan! very cool
@@NoctiGirl They were tiny you wore them around your neck.
Very interesting, and different. I like the 'shadow puppet' at 7.10. I've thought about getting a Rollieflex before. Looking down to shoot actually seems quite subtle and discreet to me. It's a desirable object, although I'm not really an African Lizard type of person.
Hahaha thanks!! I definitely love how the Rolleiflex shoots and it's way more discreet than the Leica where you have to hold it up to your face. A lot of times when people see me with the Rolleiflex they automatically assume I'm a professional photographer 🤣 then they ask to see the back of the camera if they could check out how the shots look like 😛 Honestly, I'm not an exotic leather type of person either, but I love the gold... I am a woman after all. I love shiny gold things 😍🥰❤️
@@NoctiGirl Sparkly precious things. You are a lady. 😌
@@NoctiGirl And discretion is good. Looking down is rarely intrusive. Or noticeable.
Correction- Warhol not Worhol.
So much bling haha
Hahaha omg I know 😆 I need to wear sunglasses when I look at it 🤣
TLRs are really fun quirky cameras (Rolleicord IV shooter here) but I wouldn't shoot with an Aurum because of the unwanted attention! You have a nice set of photos...I especially liked the one at 7:06 with the "You Lucky Dog" neon sign in the window reflection. By the way, is that Dan Tamarkin holding up a lens and behind the display case? And who is the gentleman working on the Barnack Leica and Rolleiflex? Cheers from Vancouver!
Hahaha I love the Aurum for how it looks! But I guess I'm more self-centered (or naive?) to think that people would pay attention to me when I shoot it... ya I'm dead wrong 😅 It's definitely an attention getter 😆
Thank you for your compliment! That shot you mentioned has a very interesting story behind it. Noel, the shop owner of Lucky Dog Gelato, was a high ranking officer at a large corporation making comfortable income. One day she decided to quit her stifling job to become a gelato master! With her husband's support, she went to Italy for 6 months and studied under a famous gelato master, came back to SoCal and opened up her own shop. It's only been a couple of years now and her shop's doing so well that it's even been mentioned a few times on local newspapers! That specific shot you mentioned was actually a double exposure. I first photographed her washing her gelato trays in the kitchen. I then rewinded my film and went to the front of the store and took a shot of the neon sign reflection on the window. I'm so happy that it turned out pretty cool! 😄
Also, good eye! That is Dan Tamarkin that you spotted. He's so passionate about what he does. Such a pleasure to be around and an all-around wonderful human being. The gentleman working on the Leica and Rolleiflex is a SoCal based camera technician. He does a wonderful job servicing cameras from Leicas to Rolleiflexes to Hasselblads etc. He was trained in Wetzlar in the 80's!
Cool back story and I didn't know that shot was a double exposure...nice! @@NoctiGirl
I own both Rolleis and Yashicas. For some reason I find the Yashica Mats more fun…🤷🏾♂️👍🏾😏
Hahaha they are all fun!! What do you like about the Yashica Mats??
@@NoctiGirlYashica Mats are lighter, have a larger ground glass, and not as sharp-which I prefer.
Ah gotcha! I suspect that it probably renders kind of like the Tessar lenses on the Rolleiflex. Also softer with that vintage “glow” 🙂
Give Hasselblad 501 CM like that Rollei :O
Hahaha I actually have a gold Hassslblad 500cm that’s also an anniversary edition 🙈
I'm afraid you may need a bodyguard, too. :-)
Hahaha I know right 😂😅😆
I’ll shoot it in broad daylight with plenty of people around… hope that makes it safer…? 🤔
@@NoctiGirl , before you buy an expensive camera for "street" photography, getting mugged is something to think about. :-)
Hahahha for sure!! Luckily I don’t usually do street photography alone 😌 my friends act as my body guards 😛
Perhaps you should start a second 'Rollergirl' channel, 'If you're rolled up ... ' etc., but wear a false moustache to confuse people.
Hahaha omg so funny you said that!! A lot of my friends make fun of me too and say I should actually be RolleiGirl instead because I shoot my Rolleiflex way more than my Leica 😆🫣🤫
But “rolled up” doesn’t sound as catchy as noct up 😆
@@NoctiGirl Agreed. Noct Up opens a whole new universe !
And Rolled Up is too much Kamar Sutra.
Rolled Up reminds me of tootsie rolls or weed 🤣
@@NoctiGirl Clearly a vegetarian...
