The Baltic Way or Baltic Chain was a peaceful political demonstration that occurred on August 23, 1989,
protest for the Soviet-Nazy (Molotov-Ribbentrop) Pact in 1939.
As a result, the Baltic states were forcefully
and illegally incorporated into the Soviet Union.
Approximately two million people joined their hands to form a human chain spanning 675.5 kilometres (419.7 mi)
across the three Baltic states - Estonian SSR, Latvian SSR, and Lithuanian SSR, republics of the former Soviet Union.
