schon fast zur Tradition ist es geworden ganz kurz vor Weihnachten ein Video mit noch nicht gezeigten Bildern der abgelaufenen Motorsportsaison zu veröffentlichen. Bisher waren es stets - wenn auch zufällig - Aufnahmen aus Fahrzeugen der Marke BMW. Mit lächerlichem Hubraum von gerademal vier Litern im Getrag M3 vor Jahren.
Im Rahmen der weltweiten Krise, hoher Spritpreise und dem Ausbleiben der vor Jahrzehnten versprochenen Klimaerwärmung möchte das diesjährige Weihnachtsspecial ein Zeichen setzen.
HUBRAUM STATT TANNENBAUM!
Kaum ein in 2011 von mir mit Kameras ausgestattetes Fahrzeug eignet sich dafür so hervorragend wie der 1976er Chevrolet Monza des Franzosen Gilles Ceron.
In den Siebzigern beschloss Chevrolet in LeMans zu starten und brachte so eine Art Ziegelstein auf Rädern an die Sarthe. Mit dem Cw-Wert eines 40Tonners und einem Design, daß der Feder eines Vierjährigen gut stünde, wurde man damals belächelt. Zumindest bis zu dem Moment als 8 Liter Hubraum das Ungetüm vorwärtsschoben.
Die kurvige Ardennenachterbahn von Spa Francorchamps ist sicher nicht das ideale Terrain für den Klimakiller, doch es reichte beim Rennen der Classic Endurance Racing für Platz 6 in der Klasse hinter Raketen wie Porsche 935 und Ferrari 512BBLM.

Nice to see an old Chevy competing with an old bmw, just like the classic camel gt races. Its cool how it keeps up with the newer stuff too. And people say the monza was a mediocre platform...
And people say the monza was a mediocre platform... it was. But, this car is a custom built tube frame trans am IMSA GT type car that is why it is keeping up wit these cars it is racing against.
I built a street car Monza with the IMSA body panels, '70 LT1 engine, Super T10 4-speed trans, 3.73 12 bolt rear end, big tires. That was a fun ride.
Had one of theses cars, they are awsome.
That is one fast car. See, some Frenchmen have good sense.

The Mnza looks so beastly, Hot Wheels made a small diecast of this car last year. Of course I couldn't pick this thing up, I don't have the money, XD. So I picked that up.

The little Chevy that could a Chevy Monza with a 350 small block straight-pipe V8 that stomped the European challengers for 2 years winning in 1976 and 77 at the IMSA GT races . just the idea of this car taking down a porsche make's me happy and it sounds amazing with the little Chevy ripping around the track at speed . Road and Track has a article about it on the web sight.

...what's the connection between this BADASSS and the Monte Carlo line [ if any... ] !?
{{{th'aHRTSt' kNOWn CURRENT as QUIck GAmmzzz}}} none. The Monte Carlo was a big G-Body platform. The Monza is a small compact H-Body platform. Same platform and size as the Chevrolet Vega. But Monza’s has 262ci, 305ci and 350ci options from the factory.

This ugly, and loud piece of American iron is my favorite race car! Daytona Coupe! Whateva. Gt40! Ok. Dekon Monza GT! Hell yeah Baby! Now that's a real race car. She was eatin up all those tiny winy European sports cars like a hungry beast! Great drive by Gilles, lettin her roar down those straits! You gotta let the big dog eat! Make way for the big dawg!
Great car, terrible driver. Late getting on it out of the turns and squandered opportunities to jump ahead. This car had more potential than the driver could harness.
with the power that thing has and driving it around such a track and the fact its rare now the driver did a great job getting it around in one piece
That car is snakey as shit. Even a street Monza with upgrades and a small block is a handful.
Trouble with 800 hp Nascar guts....HD axles , and production style front axle dtc...limits lowering car , brakes during this mid 70's era for this weight --mean large Dia tires...... tall car , high CG.... BLAZES EM ON THE BACK STRAIGHTS...LOL
