!!A little clarification!! To add to the part about blackwashing. After reading through some of the comments, I agree that in some cases changing a white characters' race would be wrong. For example, if that character is used for commentary on racism/power imbalance/privilege and things like that. In that case if you change them from white to something else, it would go against the message and purpose of said character.

i don’t get why people are so mad about headcanons. like, let me have my silly little guys 😭😭😭

  • @the.axolotlgirl

I just think if a person’s headcanon is something like a person’s sexuality and race it should only be done if the person DOESNT have a canon or heavily hinted one

I guess HC’s ARENT that bad but some people just over-do it and they like try and insist that their HC’s are canon or smth and they’re just really annoying about it😭😭

  • @sneakybugzz

In my opinion they’re not that bad, they’re just lil au’s, just lil silly goobers

My problem with hcs is that I've seen plenty of people who claim that their hcs are canon. It can be annoying because they are spreading misinformation about characters. There was this one person shipping IzuOcha (Deku X Ochaco from MHA) and some other people started going off on them because "Deku/Ochaco is gay/lesbian". It's never been confirmed, Ochaco literally has a crush on Deku. I'm all for hcs so long as you don't go out harassing people and calling them "homophobic" for not having the same exact hcs as you. I hc Ruby Hoshino from Oshi no Ko as bi, yet you don't see me going around forcing it down people's throat.

Self indulgence is confort food for many artists, sometimes they wanna see themselves as a character too so they change certain aspects of a character to fulfill their fantasies.

  • @ignat22869

One type of headcanons that i noticed is when someone headcanons family dynamics. Like headcanoning two characters as siblings or parent/child dynamic. I like some of those. But it gets annoying when that headcanon gets so popular that if you ship these caharacters in a romantic way youll get tons of hate.

I remember seeing a HC for Nico di Angelo from the Percy Jackson books (note that there are no movie/TV show actors for Nico) and it had him with a disability and he was using arm crutches. I personally think this is a great idea because I have mobility issues (I have dislocated my knee multiple times and have had issues with mobility in my knees, I also have several problems with my joints anyway) and I love to see HCs of characters that the author wrote somewhat to our interpretation in regard to disability, sexuality, gender identity/expression, etc. Rick Riordan for example has many LGBTQ+ characters, disabled characters, characters with different ethnicities, etc. he also co-wrote a book with a queer author (Mark Oshiro) to "get a better representation of the characters." I honestly love that Rick knows how much of an impact he has on his fans, especially his younger "audience," and that he genuinely tries his best to get the most representation he can, if he needs help with showing representation, he asks for help.

I completely agree! Another point was in the mha fandom people got really mad when the anime changed uravity to the standard anime body type. Many people have now been giving her a chubbier(for lack of a better word)appearance. I personally love this! And i like to see more body type representations in anime and tv shows( being a chubbier girl myself) loved the video btw❤❤❤

  • @rubymoon72

I also see people headcanoning characters being gay or les and harass artist drawing those characters being straight ect. Like cant a character be bi or pan for everyone be happy and not harassed.

  • @lillybellegaming

I see Pinkie as a short, black, chubby girl but also I see her as a tall, silly, red head with freckles.

  • @GaryCandyPrince

What annoys me is when people make stereotypical headcanons (like for example a headcanon of a tomboy girl being trans)

  • @popohoho35

idk i just think racewashing characters in general is super weird and in my opinion it won't hurt u to leave a black character black like just leave their race alone 😭 but in the end i really don't care what u do in ur free time and at the end of the day as long as ur being respectful ab it i dont mind

I personnally find headcanons cool but those who posts those headcanons on Pinterest saying that the character is zoophile or a p€do and add a lots of "pride" flag that don't even exist (I saw headcanons on a MINOR saying that they're plushies sexual like whattt) 😭

  • @takemi_914

Headcanons are only 'bad' if they are fueled by a stereotype. If (for example) a male character were to wear feminine clothes, have long hair and/or painted their nails or wore makeup, that doesn't make them trans or gay. If you headcanon a certain character solely based on their appearance, background, etc. with no further justification, that's a stereotype. There are real guys who like to wear that kind of stuff and aren't part of the LGBTQ+ community, and you can imagine how much they get made fun of already because of the very same stereotypes you follow when headcanoning characters.

I find headcanons really fascinating and it's nice to see people relate to characters but I feel as tho sometimes people throw around the word "headcanon" a bit too much.

genuinely no idea why people get so offended over headcanons, like if you don't like them just keep scrolling

  • @Feral_Ratzzz

I think a good example of this is Gwen Stacy from Atsv, I’m a trans man and when I watched the movie I realized how EXTREMELY Trans coded she was to the point that people argued ( and still argue) if she’s trans or not… I personally thought and still think of her as trans and I felt like it would fit her character if she was. The pain she felt hit so close to home and seeing the “ Protect Trans kids” flag made me tear up. I’m not gonna be mad if she is confirmed as cis I just feel like it’s a very good opportunity for the writers to show really good Trans representation but if she isn’t she’s still a Trans Ally and I’m glad it makes Transphobes mad 😊
