Marwan Death, battle with Jack - 24 season 4 Finale -

- Probably the lamest death in the entire series, Marwan was such a great character but the effects used in this scene are laughable. Any cat using a simulator could create a better effect than this, he looks like bloody Dracula fading off with his cape. Uggghhh, otherwise it's a nice enough scene. Jack gets a good reaction with Marwan's sneaky hand slit and the action leading up is pretty good. The rest of this episode however is phenomenal, season 4 always had a soft spot in my heart. Marwan had to be my second or third favorite villain, for always being that one step ahead of Jack - and in fairness that does play out in his death.

It is fucking abysmal 🤣🤣🤣, it ruined the scene honestly, I was fucking dying when I watched it first
Habib Marwan was my favorite villain in all of 24. He was the most capable and the most elusive of them all.
Couldn't agree more, he made this my favourite season without doubt
Well he was, but lets not forget that because of Charles Logan and his incompetence, Marwan managed to escape from that club in the first place....otherwise he could have been captured right there.
That being said I think, Logan is my favorite villain, not because he was most capable (he was the one to screw it all up big time :D), but because of acting of Gregory Itzin. Also liked Juma, cause he was daring enough to assault White House itself, although the whole plot of African rebel group General coming to USA and leading that kind of assault himself while leaving the rebellion in his own country to others sounded really stupid :D. But either way he was kind of refreshing villain when compared to some of these others.
Either way, if US borders were leaking like they did in 24, where all these villains and weapons of mass destruction got into the country (although sometimes with help from powerful ppl acting within USA itself as shadow group behind the scenes), well lets just say that I could Trump's rantings about border wall and stronger borders more seriously :D

Setting is actually really similar to The Dark Knight. Marwan's smile is also very Joker.
I've always said that Marwan was arguably the only villain in 24 who "beat" Jack, in that he managed to commit suicide and at the time of his death in his head, that meant victory. And as he states earlier in the season, he manages to do a fair amount of damage over the course of the season.
Not a primary villain but you could argue Nina did too
His mission still failed though. He just wasn't alive to see that. If anything Samir Mehran who succeeded in executing Hassan possibly deserves that honor instead.
The guy who offed that Middle Eastern head of state played by Anil Kapoor in Season 8 was the villain with the most decisive win.
Got Jack and Renee so despondent, they fucked right after. 😅
Arnold Vooslo was an awesome 24 villain. His character is what got me watching the series from the beginning.

I’ve read that Marwan was only intended to be the villain for part of the season, but Arnold Vosloo ended up being so impressive as an actor that they were convinced to keep him as the villain for the rest of the season. Based on the way the season played out I buy it.
Jack vs Marwan is like TDK vs Joker. Marwan is always ahead of Jack. Marwan can figure out Jack but Jack can’t figure out Marwan.
4:15 I remember seeing the promo for this episode, before it aired; and when I saw Jack screaming “No!” at an off-screen source of light, I thought he was seeing the nuclear missile explode.
Haha, I see I'm very much not the only one who found these effects awful. Certainly not up to 24 standards! I wonder what went wrong. To be fair Jack's "NOOOOO!!" reaction was similar to my own when I first saw this.
The fact that Die Hard got it looking real in 1988 but TV struggled in 2004…..
It’s probably quite a simple effect to do.
It looks like they just keyframed footage of the Villain to move downwards….
Never understood why such a popular show had a low budget for good explosions, special effects, martial arts choreographing and target practice training. The Saunders escape missile strike scene was the best and should have set the standard for all 24 scenes.

Explosions and effects were decent. What's not is the firearms handling forball involved. Their TAC Teams look and act like a budget SWAT team from some backwater jurisdiction, and in universe, they're supposed to be at least as good and similarly equipped as the FBI HRT.
And Jack.....well, he always has a damn finger on the trigger and he likes to draw his sidearm on civvies too. 😅

Finally John, a classic "24" gun/chopper-laden action sequence. ;-) Cheers for uploading this. Haven't seen it since the Sky One broadcast.
Any chance of also seeing the nocturnal MI6 office attack by another 'bad guy' copter in Season 3, please? Was during the '5 A.M. - 6 A.M.' episode. The windows rattle from the vibration of the rotor blades, as the ship hovers upward to appear, prompting Jack to shout "get down!" as the gunner shoots a .50 calibre or similar out the side-door.
The sequence segues into another which concludes the 3rd act, where Jack and Chase race against a timed bomb to extract a hard drive in a tech room on the lower floor, before the bomb explodes. Sean Callery's music is unforgettable during that.
That's one of my absolute favourite Callery pieces, among many.

Marwan was the most psychopathic villain in the series. Other villains like Abu Fayed and Jonas Hodges could’ve destroyed entire towns but Marwan had he been successful could’ve destroyed the entire world!

24 hit its peak at Season 4, so many OMG moments, then it started getting ridiculous as they started running out of ideas.
Season 5 was one of the most original seasons though…
I think seasons 1-3 & 5 were it's peak, season 4 is where ideas were repeated (nuclear attacks, islamic threat, mole in ctu, etc) Certainly still part of 24's golden age but this is when 24 started to show signs of the formula wearing thin.

A few thoughts: yeah, now that you guys mention, those falling effects are pretty bad. Marwan’s smile is not one of a normal man. After watching this scene, I was just like Jack, thinking “now what?”
still don't know why Marwan picked LA for the Nuclear target and not either New York or Washington D.C. New York is more highly densely populated and could have killed far more people than LA and D.C would have taken out the capital city of the United States
