As a collector of ephemera I nearly cry every time you pass up on boxes of old linens and paper of any kind. That stuff is becoming harder and harder to find. Please rescue this stuff and send it to auction for those of us that create.

Yes. He always seems to pass the stuff I'd buy and get excited about stuff I don't care about. Possibly I'm his only subscriber who never wanted to visit his shop because he never picks up anything I would want. I get that he buys what he likes or knows he can sell to other guys who like what he likes. But 'guy' is the operative word very often in what he chooses and seems to know about. Also seems to limit himself to what a man his age would buy, women and anyone older than him not his customer base at all, apparently.

Hahaha... I'm only 10 minutes into the video & my neighbors have got to think that I've finally lost it! I'm doing the same thing & telling Alex, "Why didn't you look at that, it's cool!" Crazy how we all find something different from our past that takes us back to a moment in time. A lot of the stuff I see reminds me of my Dad's work bench & tool box.
      Stay safe and be well!

@@FigaroHey I think that you ARE correct. But, here's my take on why he buys what he does buy.
Referring back to the, "Music Teacher" series (gosh,. I think that's the one) with all of the beautiful clothes. He knew that he was in over his head on that. So, he sold the entire lot of clothes to one, 'Guy' who knows about vintage women's clothing & what they are worth & if I remember correctly, an existing clientele.
So, you have hit the nail on the head!
      Take care and be well!

Alec as I watch you go through the things you're finding in this building, there are things you aren't too sure of! These are things I name right off. They're tools my daddy had when I was little. I just turned 81 on June 27th, and sometimes I see things that really spark a memory! It's really funny when I watch the kids (?) that buy storage lockers. They find things they have no idea of what they're looking at! I just have to laugh. I enjoy your family and have "adopted" you as grandchildren. I'm housebound and don't get out much. So you tube is my entertainment. Have a good year. I visited Calgary for a week in 2001. Stayed with a family I met playing cribbage with on Hotmail. They took me camping at Banff. By the river there. I can't remember the name. I enjoyed Canada.

Just noticed this is an hour long! Yay! As I am watching I am thinking about the person who sorted/kept all those things. I have a feeling they knew everything that was down there, and as they 'gathered' more items they put like-items together. What a lot of stories to tell.

When you said the basement of a very old building, I was picturing soot, dust, and chaos. How lucky to find labeled cardboard boxes with mostly those very things inside. That had to help with your search. The building owner should call in some specialists who could use all the hardware, building supplies, and such.

Just finished this video. Since it was a long one, had to split it over a couple days. Looked like that first room had the better (at least smaller) stuff to flip. A trailer would have likely increased your profit (dollar per mile/hours spent) for all that time spent on the road and helped with the foul weather situation. I enjoy this type of video a great deal.

@@stevengrotte2987 Could be a possibility! I am in Canada though (albeit in a border city so definitely possibly as per your suggestion!), so the ones I saw here would make more sense they indicated the large Scottish community that was in this area back before the end of the 70's I would say. We still have a large community and Scottish clubs etc around here but not like it used to be. Be Well!

When a convent in Wilmette Illinois closed down ( due to the last of the nuns who lived there being unable to care for the structure) the building was purchased by a developer, who had an eye on turning the building into high end condos, while the building was being checked out before the renovations began a room was found in the attic which was crammed with suitcases, containing the personal effects of young women who had joined the order going back 100 years these young women had given up all of their " worldly goods" and taken a vow of poverty, and for some reason their belongings ( which were supposed to be sold to support the convent) had been placed in this room and forgotten
