man, these old 70s bands CARED about the freakin notes. Those harmonies going up and up before the solo are just one example of the care those people took with music. Queen is another example.

the songs were not manufactured. they were labored over until they got them just right. there are still some groups out there that take that kind of care, but by and large it's the producers who write the songs and then create a sound for hired singers (sort of like they did with the Monkeys originally - though the Monkees could really play and sing). Today, you just have to have a great look for video (you know the old saying: "you've got a face made for radio"). Christopher Cross was a MAJOR singer songwriter, but he didn't have a face for video and he disappeared when videos came along. Plus, they just modulate the voices of people so much that there's no telling what the singers really sound like.

It's March 2024 and like an old friend, The Things We Do For Love, pops into my head to great effect. I think I might take a slow roll down 10cc memory lane. As a kid, I remember hearing this on the radio and then going to the library and taking out the album multiple times. I think I taped it on my Dad's stereo. Great music, great musicians, liner notes and fantastic album covers by Hipgnosis!

I don't think your term naivety applies to you; you just can't look back on things until time has gone by. I am 51 and can tell you I hardly listen to music on radio because really nothing has really happened musically in the last twenty years. Rap and Hip Hop was one of the biggest downfalls in the music industry and artists who could actually sing and make music were overlooked. Today music performers need back up dancers, back up singers, light shows and any other gimmick you can think of.

Four years ago I was sat in a cafe eating egg and chips with my only thought being that, once finished, I would go home and hang myself. This song came on the radio when I was almost done and, being a big fan of 10cc during my school years, I decided to hear it out before leaving. Needless to say I didn't go home. The song gave me time to realise what I was doing, so I bought a coffee and sat there longer googling for the help I needed. I loved this song in the 70s and I really love it now.

Blessed to have been born in the 60s and enjoy a variety of music over the years. As of this moment we’re dealing with the crises of the coronavirus. The part where they say, “Feeling like a part of you is dying…” I feel like that right now. I’m a recent breast cancer survivor and over the past few days one of my friends that was a big supporter died of a diabetic coma and two friends have recently been diagnosed with cancer. And again I say, this is on top of what’s happening with this coronavirus, March 19, 2020. So I needed to hear this song to bring me back to a special place of comfort. Too many broken hearts have fallen in the river
Too many lonely souls have drifted out to sea
You lay your bets and then you pay the price
The things we do for love, the things we do for love
Communication is the problem to the answer
You've got her number and your hand is on the phone
The weather's turned and all the lines are down
The things we do for love, the things we do for love
Like walking in the rain and the snow
    When there's nowhere to go
And you're feelin' like a part of you is dying
And you're looking for the answer in her eyes
You think you're gonna break up
Then she says she wants to make up
Ooh you made me love you
    Ooh you've got a way
Ooh you had me crawling up the wall
Like walking in the rain and the snow
    When there's nowhere to go
And you're feelin' like a part of you is dying
And you're looking for the answer in her eyes
You think you're gonna break up
Then she says she wants to make up
Ooh you made me love you
    Ooh you've got a way
Ooh you had me crawling up the wall
A compromise would surely help the situation
Agree to disagree but disagree to part
When after all it's just a compromise of
The things we do for love, the things we do for love

There were some great songs after Kevin and Lol left but the sparkle that the group had as a foursome was never matched either by the reduced 10cc or Godley and Creme as a duo. Four immensely talented singers/song-writers/multi-instrumentalists/producers bouncing ideas off each other like nobody else bar The Beatles. It's a shame for us that they split but it happened before they got too frustrated and so was less acrimonious and that is, therefore, cool. Love them for what they were.

The serious car accident in 1979 that left Eric Stewart with life threatening injuries also was a factor in 10cc's demise. As Stewart was struggling physically and mentally to be able to front the band. And the result was the songwriting suffered as well, as 10cc opted for more mainstream style songs as opposed to the avante garde where they were so amazing. 10cc absolutely rules!! 🎸🎶✊✊

To bad they don’t make the Best Music today
      Like They Did Back Then
Everyone would be a lot Nicer, Happier, More Respectful, Less Killings, and Less Hate
The World Was So Different Back Then!!
