I live in Perry County Ky and loading coal trains is nothing unusual here. I, at one time, worked for Whitaker Coal and loaded the coal cars using something I put together at the loadout that made it easy. I used a Tandy Color Computer to control the coal loading using of all things, a joystick. I wrote the programming for the custom ROM pack that controlled everything. It worked very well and trouble free until the loadout was refurbished around 2010. I still have that very computer to this day.Yes it still fires up in a few seconds. Those were tough Little machines. Just used compressed air to clear out the coal dust. BTW I am a retired Deputy Sheriff.

I used to load coal when I was a 13-year-old, three buckets a day, seven days a week for 5 English shillings pocket money. This was the late 1950s and I got so good at shoveling, I got a job building railroad tunnels under London, even traveled to Sarnia, Ont to help build the CN railroad tunnel under the St Clair River. Packed it all in after working on Kuala Lumper Metro tunnels in Malaysia in 2014. Retired to Vietnam just down the road from some other tunnels. My coal had big lumps in it, that stuff you filmed looked like power station fuel, great for making power for them there clean EV's. Thanks for posting.

Those GE units have a nice sound, they got a government grant back in the mid 80s to develop a locomotive that used a coal slurry as fuel. It worked but deposits left to foul the system up so the experiment ended. Natural gas worked well for Burlington Northern units as they have alot of gas well holdings along their railways.

Being from Ohio, I am glad to see coal still being produced in Harlan. Sadly, the powers that be want to go to nuclear (we know how well that worked out the last time), solar, and wind. That's all well and wonderful, but most of the equipment comes from China, where the coal comes from the USA. Not only that but their argument is that coal causes more polution than any other fuel, but what we do not use will go overseas anyway. and we know they could care less about pollution. So what did we accomplish?
