By now you have probably heard about TikTok's infamous Pink Sauce. It wasn't MADE by TikTok, to be clear, but that was where the actual creator decided to market and sell their product. Except, then people actually TRIED it and the results were... not good. Today, I want to figure out what went wrong with the Pink Sauce - from the recipe to the regulations. Let's get cooking!

I just noticed Mat wrote "vinger" on his bottle of vinegar which confused me until i realized that's how it was spelt on the actual "nutrition facts" label. This sauce just gets better and better
No it gets worser and worserer
I thought that it was because the vinegar was like illegal and unmarked so they just added the label
What, are you telling me you *don't* have a bottle of vinger in your cupboard? Shaking my SMH
The fact that Chef Pii made this stuff and DIDN'T do any research on making a food product like this is insane! How is she not getting bombarded with lawsuits!? I feel like a judge would gladly tell her she can't keep the ingredients of the sauce secret and that she needs to take a kindergarten level course on what the FDA is
I don't think you understand some of the laws on food that certain things are actually allowed to be hidden on a food label just when you label it natural flavors there have been a lot of things that have been into play where they're even not wanting to put certain ingredients on a label and judges are going for it sadly so you're incorrect
@@Angelface11 Part of the problem here is it has made a decent amount of people sick, and is certainly sketchy with not wanting the original product tested. There is also the issue of the milk ingredient going bad, especially with such little insulation. Seriously was there even a mention on the label for any sort of refrigeration for that? Basically the only thing that saved it was someone else coming in and paying for it to be made as a safer product.
She’s been slammed with so many lawsuits that she can’t make pink sauce purchasable.
FDA doesn’t really go after people, they just send warnings and say they will go after you
You are the one who does not understand. Something like mayo, which contains egg, is an extremely common allergen, and that HAS to be spelled out in the ingredients. What you are referring to are obscure chemicals that are not known to cause allergies to a great number of people. Food dye are another common thing to cause allergies and it, in most countries has to be specificied atleast by a number or code so it can be recognized by the consumer. @Angelface11
I'm honestly astounded that she's even allowed to sell this. I remember when we set up a small pop-up concessions booth at a school festival, we had to have a licensed food health and safety officer come inspect our ingredients, food storage, food processing methods, prep surfaces, etc. to get the equivalent of a day pass to sell food to the public. Food safety is serious.
She isn’t allowed to sell it, I’ll be surprised if she doesn’t get into jail time or a fine
Don't you know, we can literally do anything now so long as we are internet famous.
shes not allowed to sell it. its illegal.
Some condiments are actually omitted from having to be checked by the FDA, but those sauces can't contain ingredients that spoil, like egg and dairy products. This is me going off memory cuz I watched another video on this whole thing, and that's what they said (might've been DeFranco), but I don't care enough to double check, and he does a good job of looking this stuff up.
If we're talking technicals... FDA will be on her quick. Those guys are as scary as the IRS. >.>
I remember MatPat talking about only wearing 1 sock at a time but seeing it in action feels unnatural somehow lol
Did he say why he does that, it makes me feel unnerved
@@nicks.2612 he said he doesn't really know why, the theorist team hypothesized that maybe the leg he usually wears a sock on is shorter than his other leg and he is making up for the extra height, but they measured his leg and they found that it was actually longer than the other one if anything, so it's still a mystery. just one of those weird things.
My son likes to do the same it's odd but he has been doing it since he figured how to take his socks off 😂

About the yellow caps on the bottles-From a design perspective, using a pink cap for her bottle would not look very good in combination with a pink bottle. A pale yellow cap however is pleasant looking.
To be honest, I have no idea how pii has the guts to call herself a chef when she just mixed mayo and chili powder and shipped it out without thinking that it would spoil over time.
and the liklyhood of her being able to seal the food in her own whatever (didn't she say in one video she dosen't do this out of her home kitchen?) is slim right?

She lost me when she claimed to be a personal chef, yet didn’t know what FDA stood for. All of the other stuff just made me sick to my stomach
I think she might misunderstand what "personal chef" means. Maybe she cooks for herself at home and thinks that's all it takes, instead of actually being a professional hired by someone to cook for them. Either a mistake explaining her knowledge, if you want to give her the benefit of the doubt, or intentional exaggeration to sell her brand with the defense later of it being a mistake because she cooks for herself.
I think she means that she’s a home cook but had to jazz it up because it’s the internet. Like how CZcamsrs would put Professional Film Maker on their resume
@@Kahadi I considered that, hence the "claimed". Unfortunately, it’s most likely the latter
she's not a chef, she didn't go to culinary school, otherwise she'd know what fda means and why her product is against the law. other people talking about the situation have mentioned she has a catering service. my guess is she's the cook in the catering service but calls herself a chef to sound fancier and more professional
Her other social media does show pretty elaborate dishes and horderves she's seemingly made for upscale parties, so she may very well be a personal chef. You don't necessarily need to know what FDA stands for to pass a basic food handlers permit test and start working in a kitchen and a personal chef wouldn't even need to have a food handlers permit. She could very well just be the personal chef for some wealthy person somewhere in Florida.

All I could think of during this video: How has this woman not been arrested yet? She's basically selling the "potion" we all made as 5-year olds when we were home alone with condiments and shampoo left unguarded.
I was thinking the same thing. Between the lack of refrigeration, the complete failure of the "nutritional label," probably skirting shipping laws, and the outright fact that some of it has been dangerous; there has to be federal criminal violations here. And given that she seems to have only ramped up when faced with this, she clearly deserves the charges.
Doesn’t she also need a license or permit to sell the stuff too? Idk if she does or doesn’t have one though

When rehydrated, milk powder might not be shelf stable. The purpose of dry milk is so that there’s no moisture for bacteria and mold to grow
... I don't.. How even... Food Science doesn't work that way!!! They who point of dehydrated foods is there is no moisture/liquid for mold or bacteria to use.

@@Purplesquigglystripe exactly. Also many foods are shelf stable when closed but once you open them, then need refrigerated afterwards. Like canned pineapple are fine sitting on the shelf unopened but you open that can and leave it on the counter it'll bad very quickly.
And that's not a "maybe", rehydrated powdered milk is very much no longer shelf stable. It will spoil like any other milk. This lady just has zero clue as to what she is doing. If she knows so little she should've either taken some night classes or found a food scientist or lab to pay to help her learn how to make it shelf stable. Those foods tend to have preservatives and stabilizers for a reason. And they have to be in the right proportions. Like you can't add a pinch of salt and call it preserved. Like to preserve meat in it, you have to bury and cover the meat in it entirely. Like you need a whole jar of it for just a single steak. (This is also way people used to soak and resoak their food in water before cooking. It was to remove most of the salt because it would otherwise contain so much salt that it wouldn't be edible.)

Also egg allergies are becoming extremely common so if she’s using mayo and not declaring it, she can seriously hurt a lot of people who try it

You do not need egg nor food colouring to make the sauce. You get a pink thick (but less flavourful) sauce by just mixing water, oil, and dragonfruit powder. No mayo needed.
Source: How to cook that, "Debunking the Pink Sauce Controversy"
I’m sure it’s been said before, but she could’ve made a dry powder that was intended to be mixed with some ranch and Mayo (so it’s now more shelf stable), had legit labeling, then sold that-since it apparently tastes good-it probably could’ve been a good product too. Just seems the lack of foresight and preparation just made this fiasco worse than it could’ve been.
It already exists - it's called *Pitaya Powder,* and MatPat showed a packet of it near/at the End of the Video (16:24 to be exact). Even then, its only use in the recipe is as a _Food Colouring!_
All the flavour comes from _the Ranch and some Chili Flakes,_ subtly sweetened by _some Honey and Mayonnaise._ So not only does Chef Pii not have a feasiby genuine Product _in the first place,_ but she doesn't even own the rights to sell the _one Ingredient needed_ to make it *its eponymous Pink Colour!*

It tastes like a very watery, bland kiwi minus the kiwi's acidity. It's the fruit's crunchiness from the seeds that makes it so delicious and fun to eat (literally grab a spoon and go to town).
I can never find a ripe one. They always taste like nothing
1 out of three times I find a ripe one. The red fleshed taste better to me and has kind of a unique sweet taste. That said, probably not worth $5 each. Apples and oranges are way tastier imo.
Prickly pears grow wild around here, so I just used those and a splash of cranberry in my copycat recipe since dragonfruit and prickly pears have similar flavors to me. It came out..not pink, but it was pretty tasty. Also had some weirdly good luck with kiwis mixed with cherry juice.
Dragon fruits when they are ripe taste sweet tbh, but the majority sold in the store arent ripe yet
So basically an over-sized kiwi that decided to get an interesting makeover, inside and out? Now I wanna try it
pink sauce is like the "potions" I used to make with whatever I could find when I was little
We all made those right?
@@Theyltimatetnt001 Yep!

@@darklex5150 omg what did you put in it ?🤣
@@kai_winchester_66 i don't remember right now, but i can tell you that none of it was food related.
I got some Pink Sauce on clearance at Walmart. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just slightly too spicy.
“I can’t tell you the ingredients I used to make it pink………but, it’s pink hehe”
Most "color mayonnaise" sauces taste good, so if that's her main ingredient and it still doesn't taste good she's really doing something wrong.
I doesn't taste good because she ships the stuff without refrgeration via USPS. In the process it spoils (foods that need refrigeration spoil after a day or two. just enough time to get sick by something shipped through the mail.
@@EndoftheBeginning17 that can’t be the only reason because in the video she had people react to it with her own fresh sauce
@@BigPunDude Well those people tasting the sauce don't look like their actually enjoying it.
From my point of view, it just looks like their being polite.
@Wrath 🅥 have you ever heard the tragedy of joe candice?
@@ForgeReaper that’s what I mean, shipping isn’t the only thing wrong with the sauce because the people having a fresh taste hate it as well
MatPat is a detective at solving food mysteries
Ha! Also an absolute unit at making theories.
Nice video
This is almost word for word what Olivia Smith said 12 hours before you commented this.
Oh man. This is going to attract so many comment bots.
Except he said there's no mention of any dairy products despite milk being listed as an ingredient towards the end
chef pii be like: UHHHHHH TAKE THIS DOWN
The fact this even hit the store is INSANE 😭
So how illegal and morally wrong do you want this product rollout to be?
Her: yes
Hearing that she didn't include the "ingredients" in the label is already a big no for me
Also she seems like the type of person who would eat hot cheetos in class, the accent is selling it.
"She's gonna pour it on somebody at the castle gates" is one of the best lines Ive heard in a while, and perfectly delivered.
the way mat just lost it lmao
17:56 if anyone wants the timestamp
then, all you'd need is a slight ramp or a round doorknob and they'd be completely unable to enter the castle!
@@AmPlant very effective
it was so funny 😂
Mr.Matpat she's at it again...she's back w a new sauce...lord have mercy
A channel called how to cook that has a really good video on the pink sauce definitely would recommend that video and that channel
The 444 part was a printing mistake. She explained that in an update, but that shows just how sketchy this all is. She clearly prints out lables either herself or with a "team". Either way no one knows how the food industry works and just slaps anything on the label. So literally anything could be in it.
444 is and “angel number” that’s why she put it on their because she saw it as lucky and slapped it to her bottles with glitter glue. She tried to play it off by saying it was a printing mistake. But it’s obvious she does not need to be making food when she said and I quote “What do you mean fda approved, I don’t sell medical products” 😭😭😭
@@abuja6425 I'm not sure about that much....
Yeah she did the 444 on purpose, she doesnt know what the fda is she cant even get a the nutrition label correct she should not be selling this. Clout chasing is a terminal disease
@@FanFav101 🤣
But it’s true. She put it there because she wanted to be quirky.
Steph's reaction to being labeled for nutrition was so honest and perfect.

A hilarious breakdown of how nonsense her sauce's nutrition label is. Wouldn't be surprised if she goes to jail over all this.

the shade matpat was throwing at the creator of the pink sauce in this video was just so entertaining to watch and very well deserved.
@Recommended For You 🅥 Let's be honest no one cares, the world is ending and there's no escaping our fate, it's best to stop programming bots and instead to spend time with your family until the very end.
@@SocietysLostSoul best to just report them. if you interact with them they follow you and never leave you alone.
Ah but that shade is not only well deserved, but he would be irresponsible to not do so. Just think of it though he'll get so many views on this that any of the viewers that are Tik Tokers, will post vids showing them making their own home made pink sauce, she'll get buried with the competition, and most of them will just show how to make the sauce cause MatPat did it here first. That'll could become the new trend on TikTok, make your own homemade pink sauce.
i love when they're both on the video!
7:55 can we just talk about how Matpat is only wearing one sock? He is a true gamer.
She’s a chef. Just like how many tv doctors are doctors… they aren’t. Also side note, in her videos she’s not wearing gloves OR a hairnet which is EXTREMELY unsanitary!
Edit: I’m saying this because she is making a ready to eat product. In factories where they make ketchup, mustard, ranch, etc (i believe) they are meant to have hairnets (especially if they are someone with long hair) and are supposed to wear gloves and change them often. I was talking about someone who is making sauce that they are selling not a chef.
Do you wear those when you cook at home?
@@granthamlin8126 The thing is, she's not cooking for herself or her family. This is a product. You need to be more cautious with those things
@@lialaokami I see very few chefs wearing gloves at restaurants. Some might wear hairnets, but very far from all.
Gloves are worse when cooking anyway. It gives you an excuse not to wash your hands.
@@granthamlin8126 why does your bad hygiene have to affect the chance of my food being unsanitary??
@@donuts3892 I get the feeling most of you here don't cook your own food, ever.
If any of you are wondering what happened with pink sauce, well it looks like she sold it to some company that actually got it FDA approved and is now being sold for half the price
Thanks for the update
Wrong!!! she couldnt sell the recipe cause people already got the ingredients and some one else sold it before she had a chance to, that was her mistake.
It's now being sold by Dave's Gourmet Specialty Foods for $10, with much better ingredients too
It’s also no longer pink and a weird faint salmon color if even that
She didn't have a choice the FDA had pretty much threaten her with legal if she continued as is
Matpat "At the end of the day dont buy stuff from people on the internet"
Also Matpat "BUY MY MERCH"
one more thing i find weird:
during the montage of reviews where matt points out the sauce varying in hue, when the last guy applied the sauce IT WAS DRIPPING OFF THE CHICKEN.
By “edible and natural” she means that it’s edible enough to swallow and naturally inclined to give you tapeworms

just because someone calls themself a chef, it doesn't mean they are. There are plenty of people who are chefs, but don't call themselves chef. why pink sauce went viral is a mystery to me.
Shes a personal chef.
All that means is she personally cooks her own food lmao
