    My 750x manual was one of the first 750's in the uk ( 2014) fitted yss valves in the forks the early bike's had hard forks, heated grips and lower rear links ( 30 mm), and modified the cluch leaver to make it lighter to pull and i get 80+ mpg down to 76 mpg on motorway at 85+ mph . At 72 with arthritis this bike will last me to the end of my riding days ,

    After ankle surgery i sold my bikes at 63 yrs old. However, my itch became itchier without a bike. So i tested most 600-900cc bikes. I wanted something comfortable because of my skeletal issues. This was the only bike i rode more than twice and after a 9 month absence bought this same bike. I ve owned 47 bikes in my life. I can honestly say i cant keep off it. Living rurally i recently visited my daughters in central Birmingham, got very lost but riding this around the city in Dct was an absolute joy. It will cruise at well over the legal limits and feels quick off the line. Its hyper comfy for me at 6’1”. I drive mine in permanent sport mode at its average on the computer 83mpg, i ve not done a tank to tank calculation. I have fitted a centre stand a criminal omission, radiator guard, hugger, fender extender and heated grips…it doesnt have the raw thrill of say. Z900rs but i am totally in love with this bike, i just want to ride it all the time. I think the performance is more than adequate and it keeps up with the guys i ride with. My only complaints are the bike resets its mode everytime you stop the engine and i think the suspension is rubbishly cheap but does its job. I will be addressing this as i love the bike so much. I would also like some luggage and when you add up all these extras its not such a cheap bike. However its a supremely competent machine. You can change riding modes on the fly and indeed use the flappy paddles for engine braking without changing anything
    Nice thorough review cheers

    I owned the original NC700X, and have since tested the 750S and 750X. The engine is nice and low revving, the storage was very handy (I could often go out without any luggage attached) and the newer DCT is much better than on my 700. Some quirks or annoyances I had were; most uncomfortable seat on any bike I’ve owned (no padding, too narrow, nasty slope that pushes you toward the tank), although I believe an aftermarket seats could resolve this, the low revving nature means there’s virtually no engine braking so you use the brakes a lot more, which are rather wooden and under-powered (even the Cb500X has 2 discs up front), the fuel cap really should be on the outside of the bike like the BMW F800 series - if you pack something on the back seat you have to remove it to fill up, plus the fuel cap just comes off. The fuel economy is good but I get exactly the same on my 750GS, with 20hp and 20Nm torque extra, which highlights this bike’s real downside - it just doesn’t have quite enough go. It’s very popular with couriers as its bulletproof but it’s not as much of a bargain compared to when it was first released (mine was £5350 new for reference) and I feel there are better options out there for an everyday bike. However, Honda should get kudos for making a bike that riders can own who cannot use clutch and gears due to disability.

      I frequently achieved 100mpg on my 2015 NC750-X DCT. The NC is only slow compared to other bikes. It is way faster than the majority of cars.
      I would like to see Honda give it either shaft or belt drive and cruise control. Sure, it would be more expensive, but I reckon lots of people would be happy to pay for it...

      @kassiedreaneai7459 Před 2 lety

      @@BibtheBoulder Really? They had DCT in 2015? I had thought that a little more recent than that but I could be wrong. I get the idea of reliability with belt or shaft drive and the quiet and less maintenance; and I have it on on my big cruiser; but on a bike where my riding might have me wanting to be able to alter my gearing for lower 1st gear not for more power but for slower speed I still like to be able to choose what I want as this is meant to be a adventure bike not just a roady.

      M H: Interesting how different people like different things. I appreciate why you and many others would like to see more power and higher RPM on this bike but for me the high torque more relaxed engine is the exact reason I like it most. More than most other bikes of similar or near similar capacity. Also the low weight due to engine layout and the type of valve adjustments rather than shims. Sadly This year Honda decided to no longer sell this bike in my country. Time to go with another dealer for a different bike I guess. Someone who wants to sell bikes.

    Had one of these a couple of years ago, my flip helmet at the time easily went in. As you say they all vary. Fuel consumption was excellent I agree... pottering around the lanes here in the Lake District it would easily do 85-90mpg! It also had the optional centre stand and aftermarket heated grips. Interesting review 👍

  • @paulabraham8724
    @paulabraham8724 Před 2 lety +40

    The NC is a great bike and has provided me with everything I have needed for the last nine months. There are a few minor issues that you have addressed which I think arise as it has been built to allow a low price point. No side stand and heated grips are the most obvious and the dash display does not match TFT’s on models that costs thousands more. The DCT is wonderful to use and of course the paddles enable instant manual switching which I don’t recall you highlighting (sorry if you did and I wasn’t paying enough attention). Quick overtaking is easy enough to do that way. I has some issues with the screen which I cured with a £15.00 universal screen extender from the web. It is a doddle to move around and as you say appears much lighter than its actual weight due to the low centre of gravity. It does everything well and nothing badly. A true unsung hero in my eyes.

    The helmet storage works better if you take the toolkit out! Mine was the same from new, the toolkit is not seated neatly in it's little slot, so prevents the helmet dropping fully down into the compartment. Remove toolkit retry. I found you can get the toolkit in much neater and still get an Arai XCess large in.

    Had two NC's over the years. Both were 750 "S" models. I note that Honda dropped the S in favour of a lower seat height on the X. The reduction in suspension travel to allow for this won't affect any "off road" pretensions of the NC so that was a master stroke. My 2016 model had gears but I opted for dct for the 2018 version. I must say, the halogen headlight on the earlier model was excellent compared to the 2016 and it sounds like a good old "bulb" still makes sense sometimes? Excellent bikes though and I'd heartily recommend the NC to anyone who needs practicality, comfort and economy. The rather early rev limit of the earlier models takes you by surprise the first time you hit it (manual transmission obviously) but Honda have gradually increased this a bit over the years too. Another thing worthy of note is that it's a great bike for DIY servicing. The valve clearences are quite easy to do - being of a screwdriver and lock nut design 👍. The radiator has to be moved out of the way to access the valve cover but that's it. Taken, that the mileage intervals for this will likely coincide with a bi-annual cooling system refresh it's also handy.

    I have a 2019 NC750X on loan from my insurance company, and what a great, but under rated little bike it is. I often read the words ‘boring and slow’, but in reality it’s easily quick enough for the roads, the low centre of gravity makes the bike feel more agile than it ought to be, and it sounds good to boot, all while sipping fuel, this one does 85mpg everywhere!

    I think you nailed it (as have others) by saying this is a do it all bike. Whether you choose manual or dct there are not many bikes that you can commute on, take touring with hard panniers, room for a passenger, weekend blast thru the twisties due to its low center of gravity (tmf used one on his canary island tour) ability to pick up some shopping or takeaway in the frunk (fuel tank space), good fuel economy even if you ride it hard, servicing every 12,000kms / 8000 miles and all for a decent price and in the Netherlands all Hondas come with a 5 year warranty.
    And btw - with dct you will beat virtually everything away from the lights

    Another fantastic, well-differentiated, client-focussed review of a VERY popular bike for good reason. You covered all of the critical aspects concisely & to such a degree, I feel like a very well-informed prospect about to confidently buy an NC & make his first street bike purchase in 40 years. My last ride was a Honda 125 dirt bike that I had as a kid. Anyway, I just got an itch that I need to scratch. Speaking of itchy, really enjoyed your interview of Noraly Shoemaker (a.k.a. Itchy Boots), and would love to see more of that kind of stuff on your channel. Thank you for your detailed review. I had an NC750X 2016 manual model - great bike and it was exactly as you described. The only two things were quite different - the LCD had a night mode and was automatically switching into it when it was getting dark. And the seat was very uncomfortable - I upgraded it twice, first time with a Shad comfort seat and second time with a custom seat - it felt better than with a stock seat, but still not good enough for me (I am 6'1"). The problem is that the seat is inclined forward and it makes you slide forward so you have to readjust constantly. I could not ride this bike for longer than an hour and this was the reason I sold it.
    Got a CBF1000F now and it has not got this problem at all.

      @@richardmcnally540 . The two links that connect the bottom of the rear shock to the frame can be swapped out with replacements that lower the bike. It's just a couple of bolts. Lust Links sell them in various lengths. I lowered mine 30mm and 10mm at the front to balance it up. There are CZcams videos that walk you through it but really is a straight forward job. After lowered the bike will be too upright on the side stand and very difficult to heave up onto the centre stand if you have one. if you were to use this bike for touring, you'd obviously use the 'frunk' but I imagine solo riders would want to strap bags, tents etc. to the pillion seat (to save lugging a top box). Relocating the fuel filler, accessed via a side panel 'flap' would be a neat feature.

    You don't have to stop, just roll off the throttle for a changed driving mode to take effect. I like the seat on my 2022 which, I think must have been significantly improved relative to 2019 and earlier models. I agree about the missing ambiant air temperature gauge being a disappointment - also no engine coolant temperature display - just a hot warning light. I think you mentioned this, but having the driving mode reset to standard whenever the bike is turned off is a bit of a niggle for me. A pleasant surprise is that the trip A milage, fuel consumption and time all reset automatically when you fill up the tank. I have about 700 miles on mine, have kept exact fuel consumption records and have averaged 63.73 miles per US gallon so far. I think this is almost exactly what you reported. The NC is a great bike if you just want to go out and ride and ride and ride. Nothing you would choose if you need speed and want to do quick overtakes but it will certainly be able to pass a tractor or some other slower vehicle with no problem. Never had an issue with overtaking cyclists on the spot or anything like that. The storage in the front is just fantastic. Especially for a beginner you can just put all your stuff in there and go on a ride without buying some bags, paniers or wearing a rucksack. :-)

    An admirable review! A few things. I have a 2018 NC750X standard clutch that I have put 22,000 miles on so far. I've done ALL maintenance for the motorcycle to date, including valve lash. This bike is a DIY owners dream come true! Plenty of power to obtain a ticket on any road in America, but you can't overtake quickly at our highway speeds 70mph or so, but these are multi lane, so no big deal. Fuel economy is very effected by how I operate it, anything from 63-81 US MPG. Pushing more air costs more fuel.
    I looked at the new NC750X 2021, 2022 and find it smaller than it's former model? It seemed to be a little more cramped. It's a fantastic motorcycle none the less. BTW, the 2018 has a full color dash, not sure why Honda went backwards on that. Almost forgot, there are VERY few farkles for this bike. My 18 has all QD SW Motech carriers, side and tail, and Madstad wind screen.

    I own a 68 reg DCT and absolutely love it, they must have changed the luggage space capacity as mine easily takes a full face lid, mine also has slotted rails on the tank storage for a tank bag, that seems to have been removed from the newer versions, lucky the previous owner added a centre stand which is well worth having

    Nice review, Mr Flyer. I've had my 2022 DCT since January and agree with most of your review, although I do have a couple of points that differ. First.....that saddle - whoever designed it should be made to ride it all day every day till the end comes, which won't be long. Second, the weird Checking of the Oil Ceremony. Honda says the bike must be upright and level, and unless you have a partner to hold it, that means putting it on the centerstand with a block to prop the front wheel. Very odd! Next, the position of the horn and turn signal buttons. At least once a day, I hit the darned horn instead of the turn signals. You mentioned it yourself and so have others. I've had no problems with fitting any of my helmets in the frunk, but I wear a medium. As to the MIA center stand and heated grips and cruise control..... (makes the rubbing fingers gesture indicating greedy corporate philandering). Finally, the cable that opens the rear saddle to give access to the fuel filler came adrift! I could not remove either saddle and have had to bring it to the dealer for service. Even THEY couldn't get it off and had to call Honda in Japan, who also had no procedure. Apparently, mine is now a test case for Honda. Ha! Notoriety at last!

    Another great review! You'd think Honda would get the message about centre stands and at the very least make one a factory option (will not affect quoted mass) Poor lighting pretty much inexcusable in this day and age. I can only surmise styling compromised design efficiency. The dash seems really low-rent in this day and age, but as an urban commuter the bike is largely unmatched. I've never met anyone who can fit anything later than a small fullface into the locker.

    I have some arthritis in my left hand which makes using the clutch lever on conventional bikes a little painful. Purchasing my 2017 NC750 DCT has meant that long term ownership and riding is now possible. I have no problem with the amount of power the bike makes, as already stated, the sport modes are quite brisk enough. The seat and rear shock were dreadful so I fitted a shad seat (now discontinued) and a Nitron shock. Although expensive the Nitron has transformed the bike, it just glides over the bumps. The forks are, I think, quite adequate.
    As TMF said, it's very easy to move the bike in and out of the garage and seat height suits my 5' 8" frame.
    I saw the new NC750 at the London show in February and liked the improvement that Honda (at last) have incorporated.

    • @PhilipBallGarry
      @PhilipBallGarry Před 2 lety +1

      Totally agree with your choice of replacement shock 👍. I had a Nitron fitted to my Versys 650 and it transformed the comfort and handling. The initial outlay is a lot, but according to Nitron the rebuild cost (when it's time) is less than £100 and you wouldn't even get a new OEM shock for that much - and they aren't serviceable either 👍.

    At 17:27 you got it backward. I own a manual transmission 2021 version of this bike. You can change the riding mode while riding it. First change the riding mode, say from standard to rain, close the throttle for a sec, re apply the throttle. The whole process takes 3 sec. Also, when you restart the engine, it always defaults to standard mode. It does not remember the last mode you were in. I have set the user mode to Max. Engine-Brake, 2/3 HP, Max Traction-Control. I'd like to use brakes less and engine brake more to control the flow of my movement as much as possible. Thanks a lot for the video.

    I agree with your comments. I have a 2012 700X and the lights are crap at night - definitely not one for high speed riding on unlit rural roads. A centre stand is a must - Honda want £150+ as an aftermarket accessory. The previous owner had fitted handguards and heated grips and a taller Honda screen. I fitted a variable Puig flip-up extension as I am 6 foot. Keeps all the wind off well. MPG as you say should be in the 80's unless you are redlining everywhere and riding like a complete eejit. I guess you will achieve better fuel consumption when the engine gets properly bedded in. As for touring, going on my first next weekend to Southern Ireland. 20kg is the max loading, 5kg each pannier and 10kg in the top box. Plus of course the wonderful 'frunk' as the Americans will call the front storage space. I just wish mine had DCT

    Just a few comments based on your review. I can fit my helmet in the box, carefully. I recommend getting heated grips and hand guards. I am a short ass female rider but the height on the new model is great for me. My only issue is that I also have small hands, so I had to adjust the brake lever to the max to benefit from using it. It’s very easy to push the throttle when trying to break because I have small hands, try to use the rear brake instead if possible and in traffic. You can change from auto to manual as you ride, ease off the throttle and switch to manual.

    Agree with you about the DCT, really good. You can change the modes whilst riding by switching and then roll off the throttle to engage. I am 6' 1" and found the bike a tiny bit small but not a deal breaker.
    Very easy to ride in traffic, lane splitting is easy. Handling very good.
    I love having the fuel tank where it is as it is easier to fill up, but where to put the cap?
    It is fast enough for me not being a speed freak, but I do like a bike that goes fairly quickly when needs must.
    I found I could not hear the horn with ear plugs in, having said that I do have mild hearing loss. When the microwave beeps I cant hear it and its pretty loud. I can hear my Transalp horn though.

    My experience from 9 months ownership. Buying the centre stand and extra light kit makes it far more practical. You can change mode on the move by just shutting the throttle after you select the mode. I get about 150 miles before the warning fuel low level comes on, average consumption is low 70s. Touring with throw overs is a pain because you have to take them off to fill up. Seat is good for about 200 miles then gets a bit bum ache. My Rpha70 fits in the frunk no problem. I have the manual version, clutch action is light as is the gearbox no false neutrals, clutch lever lacks adjuster though. A good practical everyday bike which is exactly why I bought it. Nice review.

    Great review yet again ;-) I had the bike for a test ride last week. I was curious about the dct gearbox. This honda surprised me in a few ways. The handling as you mentioned, felt really good. You can definitely feel that low centre of gravity - very easy to lean into corners and very stable when going in a straight line. The seat is very low. I ride Yamaha mt07 and honda adv350 scooter and they both feel taller in comparison. Great little bike, however... The dct in drive mode is just bad (it might be ok for car drivers who hop on the bike on occasion). Sport mode is much better but not amazing. The manual mode shows the engine's real potential which is not bad. I bet if you ride it every day, you could learn to ride it more effectively. I don't dismiss the bike nor the dct gearbox but at this point, it is not for me. In my opinion, this bike with an auto box leans more into the scooter territory rather than a motorcycle one. If you try to ride it like you would a conventional bike, you'd be disappointed. I found myself fighting with the gearbox on a few occasions while trying to overtake when I dropped a gear to go and when I went for it, the dct upshifted taking my oomph away. I suppose you could learn how to use it to avoid that. The storage did not take any helmets I tried, nevertheless, it is a useful addition.

    The most balanced review so far on the NC750X. For reference, the Revzilla review was a joke, basically expecting the NC to be like a loud pipe monster. 🤨 I own the 2020 DCT model. I absolutely love it. Great bike for all the reasons you mentioned. I will add one pro and one con. Pro - The NC has a 210kg max payload which makes riding with a pillion or a lot of luggage a breeze. Con - Because of the gas tank under the pillion seat, virtually all soft luggage systems (e.g. Mosko Moto) is a nuisance. You have to detach it every time you need to fill up. So, you are forced to get a system with racks so you don't end up with straps over or under the pillion. Even with this con, the bike is amazing. Thanks again for the good review.

    Excellent review, i think it's a bike us older riders can appreciate as well. Don't forget old age doesn't come alone! I'm 60 & probably in need of knee surgery so the low center of gravity makes it an attractive proposition as does the DCT if it means we can ride for longer. Also don't forget it has screw & lock nut valve adjustment, that combined with accessibility of the engine ticks one more box for servicing costs if you're a home mechanic.

    • @davidfalgout7304
      @davidfalgout7304 Před 2 lety +2

      MICHAEL... Enjoy your YOUNG age! I am 70 so I understand. I think the NC750-DCT... is perfect so us "OLD GUYS"...can continue to ride. I test road one the other day. The cons Andy speaks of are not really cons. NO BIKE, No machine is perfect. In this case, I think Honda spent the money on the DCT. The few things they left off are easy to overcome. Having to clutch all the time is not easy to overcome.
      People talk about not enough power. That power comes at a VERY HIGH price. For example. The Kawasaki Z900RS valve adjustment done at a stealer-ship will cost you well north of $650.00 ( US dollars). One can adjust the valves on the NC at home with just a modicum of skills!!!! The "gitty-up" is more than all BMW boxers until 2004. And then the increase in perceived power is of no consequence !!! NO ONE SAID they don't have enough "UMPH". I guess its all relative!

I have spec'd it up with "showroom pack" (center stand, touring screen, crash bars & spotlights etc) and a full set of luggage. As you say why don't Honda fit main stands as OE! As mentioned before you can shift rider modes on the fly, there is a method. All day comfort and decent cruising speed but expect that may be questionable if carrying a pillion and luggage for a tour, fantastic riding solo.

    Thanks for this review, TMF. I think I am going to get one (from 2016 to 2020 model due to the seat being higher) as a general run about bike. The DCT in traffic and the very low center of gravity are what swayed me. Btw, Honda went a bit weird with seat heights on this bike. The original NC700X had a seat height of 795 mm, then from 2016 to 2020 the NC750X went up to 830 mm and from 2021 it went down to 800 mm again. I've seen a number of people complaining about legs being cramped on this bike and it must be due to the various models being all over the place.

    With the lights perhaps the low beam just wants lifting up a bit , if it’s adjustable , you can change modes on the go but you have to turn the throttle off.

    Are used to own a 2014 NC 700 X DCT and with Michelin tires it was great I never had problems in the rain it was just as you say grader on the city easy to maneuver my biggest Cueto it was a little busy and vibrating once you get on the highway and the vibrations could just be very annoying but I owned it for seven years and put 64,000 miles on it driving around the USA and I enjoyed my time with it. I have heard that the new 750 X DCT is better and it’s smoother

    I have a 2022 on order here in Thailand, even though there are a couple of changes I'd like to see. First is an option to have the rear brake moved to the left hand where the clutch would normally be. After riding a scooter for the last few months, I'm a fan of being able to put both feet on the ground when stopped while having either hand available for adjustments. Also would love to have a belt drive.

      You should have ordered a Forza 750 or X-ADV 750, instead...

      @@1zanglang Forza 750 not available in Thailand. X-ADV has higher seat and bigger price tag. Ultimately, I can happily live with the NC.

    I’ve got an nc700. Easiest bike to live with I’ve had. Best on fuel and a comfy riding position
