  • Comparing the new Di Marzio Sixties P Bass DP124 pickups for Precision bass with the Fender MIM Stock pickups. The Di Marzio Sixties have a similar design as Billy Sheehan Relentless pickups but are voiced differently to have a more vintage tone, they look gorgeous! And they come in other colours too!

    Having a suuuuper hard time debating in my head between the Sixties P and the Steve Harris SDs... Both are just so good

    I like the brightness of the Fender, the Dimarzio are a little more beefy but still sound pretty good, I never thought of metal covers for bass pick ups before.

    Originals sound clearer and brighter to me.

    I like the DiMarzios. They sound great. Just a bit more body than stock, but they still have that P-Bass thunder when you hit the low E, unlike a lot of overwound P pickups.

    Great review! Did the pole pieces on the DiMarzio catch on your fingers when you played finger style? They look pretty smooth

      Thanks! No, it's a pretty comfortable pickup to play with!

    I like the difference - the Dimarzio uotput seems very close, but maybe has a little mor low end and maybe a little more in the 800 hz mid range? Treble response seems similar.
    Nice demo man.

    I totally prefer the stock pickups, they seem to have a lot more clarity in the top end, sound more piano like.

    Oliver, sto prendendomi un Precision Alusonic..... ,i chiedevo: tu cosa preferisci per fare IRON MAIDEN: questo DiMarzio DP124, il Seymour Duncan SPB-4, oppure il Relentless?

    • @OliverTobyn
      @OliverTobyn  Před 2 lety +1

      Penso che con gli SPB-4 vai sul sicuro. Relentless no, troppo lontano dal suono di Harris, coi Di Marzio DP124 forse un po' riusciresti anche, ma comunque consiglierei i Seymour Duncan

    Sound to me like you are running tone 100% on all these? I was hoping to hear them with it at 0% as well. Thanks!

      I tend not to use the tone control on these comparisons because it really depends on what capacitor and other electronics the instrument has, so it may not be an objective and universal result

      No, they are the same in both cases. 250k volume, and Fender TBX for tone all the way up

  • @alvarovallejos8465
    @alvarovallejos8465 Před 2 lety

    I'm shocked how dark the Dimarzio is compared to the MIM, in another review vs MIJ it was the opposite. How would you compare the Sixties vs the SPB-4?

    • @OliverTobyn
      @OliverTobyn  Před 2 lety +1

      Could it be that it was wired in parallel? In this one, I wired it in series, as all split P pickups are. That would be a pretty interesting comparison. The 60s probably have more "beef" and a nice fat sound, whereas the SPB4 has more upper-midrange than lower, but they're both pretty similar

    • @alvarovallejos8465
      @alvarovallejos8465 Před 2 lety +1

      @@OliverTobyn Thanks I have the SPB-4 and was looking for something more barky thinking the 60s was the ticket. I want something that crackles (not more low mids), the 60s top end was too smooth.

    Ive always hated those dimarzio bass pickups. Back in the 70s they were overwound and very dull sounding. They made most amps distort, as I recall

    Dimarzio sound compress and unbalance EA Vs DG tonal compare to stock pup. But I think this character will work on slapping.
