A great performance from Lorna Luft. I saw her in concert a few years ago she was superb. It's ridiculous to constantly keep comparing her with her mother and half sister. To have three top singing stars in one family is truly amazing.

This is the best that I have ever heard Lorna Luft sing. I used to think, 'okay it's Judy Garland's daughter and Liza Minnelli's half sister, so she's out there too'. But after hearing this - I say "Lorna - you go girl".
Yeah, she starts off a little wobbly, but sounds SO much better than her more famous sister. No comparison. It's a shame she didn't try harder for her own career 30 years ago...
I saw Lorna recently here in Florida. She is EXCELLENT! She sounds much more like her mother Judy Garland than Liza. Most artists will agree. She is absolutely her mother's daughter and I know that Judy is looking from above and smiling! Love you Lorna! I absolutely love listening to her!
Lorna is ok, but she's no Judy. Her vibrato is getting pretty bad. I don't know when this was done, but, her vibrato is pretty choppy. Liza's is way gone. Comparing either to their mom is a waste of time, there is no comparison. I'm not criticizing their talents, I'm just saying they're no Judy. But, then again who is?

Obviously we don't agree about Liza, which is OK. Liza has a problem as a singer, and always has. Sometimes she hits those klinkers, and its like nails on a blackboard. If my ears remember correctly Liza sang at Yankee Stadium after 911, and was absolutely horrendous. But, I truly hope you continue to enjoy Liza for many years to come. But, I still say she is no were as good as her mother, and never was. By the way, Lorna in her younger days as a singer could blow Liza's doors off. Now neither one can sing very good.
She has that rising voice full of emotion, singing not screaming. She now knows what the words mean being over 50 having had a heartbreak yet has found love again with second husband. How she can sing this and not think of her mother, may be that’s the point, it’s a celebration , a thank you to her mother for she only could’ve had the talent to sing from her mother. The love she has for her mother makes this an emotional song even more than originally written. Bravo Lorna. Took a lot of guts

Lorna has a terrific voice - someone called her the Best Wedding singer you could buy. While that sounds unkind and somehow a put-down, it's not really. Technically, she is just fine. What she doesn't quite have, and it's not her fault, is that unique 'star' quality. I like Lorna, play her recordings and have always liked her and have seen her in person about four times - and she puts on an excellent show every performance. But somehow, everything didn't always fall in place for her, career-wise. I think she initially tried to "do her own thing" and NOT come across as a second Judy Garland but as the years passed I guess she felt she should do a Tribute to her Mom kind of show - I'm sure it's not easy always being compared to a famous Mom and a famous Sister as well ~
Shows how little you know about Lorna. She spent YEARS running away fro her mother's legacy. She didn't want to follow in her shadows. In fact, until her "Songs My Mother Taught Me" show began in 98/99, she hardly touched her mother's work. Do your homework before you say nasty things.
I had convinced my husband to take me to see "Songs My Mother Taught Me" at our local Performing Arts Center when Lorna was touring with it. I LOVE Judy; hubby never liked her. I prefer Lorna over Liza; hubby was not familiar with Lorna. On the way home afterward, my husband expressed his enjoyment of the show. (I am a year older than Lorna)
What does it matter, song is my mother taught me is a direct line to Judy. Why is she going to try to ride on her mothers skirt tail. Why in the hell are you defending her she should get her own freaking identity. Why is her dead but you think it’s OK for her to come out and see her mother songs, and embarrass her mother. Lorna I can’t sing worth a shit it’s embarrassing.
Lorna has an amazing voice and where both her and Liza sing very well there is no comparison to Judy. It's interesting that Judy's daughters didn't inherit her looks, but they did her voice (or rather, most of it). Liza looks just like Vincente and Lorna looks just like Sid, but somehow, they both ended up singing just about as good as Judy.

She has a GREAT voice but THIS is why Liza is more famous than Lorna because Liza took her mother's advice, "You don't have to sing any of the songs I sang. Just remember, you want to be a first rate version of yourself, not the second rate version of somebody else." Liza took the advice which was a VERY smart thing to do.
I like what you said about "Judy will be forever in the short list of miracles." It's true. You can't compare miracles with anything else. It reminds me of a thing I read somewhere , some critic referring to "Judy, the little Mozart of song-and-dance..."

Her voice is swell...but something is definitely missing... when Lorna sings I NEVER feel on the edge of my seat in the same way i do listening to her mother or sister both of whom have the incredible catch breath phrasing and that very necessary touch of nervousness to make it REALLY exciting. For me, this vocal interpretation of an outstanding song is well sung but simply put... too square.
Lorna is probably not quite on the par of her mom, but she's actually a better vocalist than Liza ... always has been; but the entertainment business has always been first and foremost about opportunity, timing, and a LOT of luck. Liza (being older) was the 'chosen' one .. Liza got Cabaret and the rest is history.
But Liza was one hell of an entertainer. Lorna may be be a better singer, but I'd much rather watch Liza perform. Liza's energy was absolutely stunning, definitely on par with her Mother.

It is very distinctive, no one would ever mistake her voice for anyone else, and i think it’s great. But it’s not in the same Universe as Judy Garland, which is true of every other singer on earth. Judy was unique and the greatest singers of her era all said so. They all seem to be in complete awe when around her, no matter how high their star has soared.
This is the ONLY version that can hold a candle to Judy's. I didn't think Lorna had it in her. Her singing has been so variable over the years. Would really like to know when this is from.

Granite that was a big responsibility that Syd left to give to Lorna, but for her to just up and leave and leave her mom high and dry when she knew she needed help that’s pretty damn selfish. Whether she was 16 or not she should’ve made sure her mother had help before she left her. Because as soon as Lorna left her her mother died months later.
