Got an rs2 rocking up in a few hours! Love this video, thanks!!. Question; can you make active track keep the subject in either 1/3 of the screen left or right, or is it always centre tracking only. Ie for interviews? My only guess is that you could ask it to track a shoulder or something else that works enough to keep your subject slightly to the side of frame.
You CAN! It tracks your subject at the point where you set it. So if you drag a box around someone at 1/3rd frame, it will keep them there! At first I was annoyed but then I realized how much that’s a good thing!
I now own an RS2. Used plenty of consumer gimbals before, this is next level, but also comes with added complexity, need lots of practice to be ready to use commercially. I used to be able to setup, balance and shoot with the Crane V1 in about 2-3 mins. I feel like this needs about 10-15 to setup with raven eye, and then hope to god it all connects on the day. I think one must not underestimate simplicity when considering all the other equipment that may be required to film a job. Very happy but prob most annoyed it’s not a manfrotto mount on the camera itself. Whhhyyyy? And indeed the reviews stating that the phone mount hits the pan arm is a terrible design flaw! Great review and very informative video. I notice that your activetrack works with pan and tilt axis... have you done anything in settings? I have the same gimbal and raveneye, but with a Sony RX10III, and active track will only pan, no tilt.. Liked and subbed.
Huh! Thats interesting to hear.. I didnt do any sort of setup concerning which axis it should use. It just tracks in all directions out of the box.. I cant see that having anything to do with the camera model, since its just using the video feed to make its decisions. Im real curious to hear if you come up with a solution to that..
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE yes, the video transmission from the camera is very fine, so I can't figure out whats wrong. Thanks for your response, and great content.
So if your camera auto focus sucks like the gh5 and have it in manual focus, does the pro combo with the focus wheels turn the camera to an auto focus throughout the raveneye?
So it has the focus motor that will drive your manual focus lens - but for it to do autofocus you have to get one more thing, the 3d focus system. Raven eye is just for object tracking, it relies on the camera to do the autofocusing, but with the 3D focus thing, theres one more module that goes on your camera that DOES make the focus motors into autofocus for manual lenses. Heres a link to an overview of it from DJI, czcams.com/video/_0x0ryJf294/video.html
Great content! would you recommend using Raveneye for a wedding? that's what I am thinking about. Also, I know Raveneye has its own battery, but eventually it'll die and the gimbal can charge it. is there anyway to stop that? I'd rather it just die while shooting a wedding than draining the gimbal's battery too. thanks,
Interesting question. I think at this time, you won't be able to use Raveneye without it being charged and therefore draining some of the gimbal.. If you unplug it it won't do its thing.. I guess currently the only work around would be that the RSC2 CAN be charged while in use, so you could strap an external battery to it, those will usually have a screw hole on them somewhere, or just some black gaff tape in a pinch - and that way you'd have so much battery life that it pretty much just wouldn't matter.. That gimbal already lasts like 11 hours as it is...
Hi. If I saw your video before I bought my rsc2, it will be combo. But now I have simple version. Is there any other variants to see what is filming my camera Sony A73?
You can try the “Imaging Edge Mobile” app, that should let you see through the camera with your phone over a WiFi connection. You can also buy the raveneye module separately.
@@PaulEckhardt I haven’t, actually. I will give it a go this weekend and report back.. maybe I’ll make another video about this thing more in depth with its features
There’s a little cage called “Small Rig” and They’ve made them custom for pretty much every new camera, and it comes with a whole bunch of cold shoes all over it so you can mount stuff.
Im not sure I understand what you mean.. I was specifically talking about the RavenEye. The Gimbal is still an awesome Gimbal without it! It just cant do Active Tracking without it
I feel so conned! I bought this gimbal RSC2 and nowhere was stated that you need raven eye for active track. Can you use active track without the RavenEye? Please help somebody..
You sir, have said what I’ve been looking for on the internet. I bought the sc2 non pro combo and was trying to get to active tracking. Turns out you do need the pro combo. Will have to return and purchase the pro combo. I have to say, this is a downgrade in comparison to the older sc. as that one had active tracking out the box. Sure you couldn’t active track yourself. But you could still active track a subject.
I KNEW I couldn't be alone in this! Luckily, best buy didn't flinch at accepting my return, even though fitting that thing and all its components back into the custom foam mold is nearly impossible and of course all the plastic baggies are gone.. I can agree with you on the active track, but EVERYTHING else about this newer SC2 is an upgrade. For me, the click in mount so you dont have to rebalance is just wonderful. And once you DO have this RavenEye thing, and can control stuff from your phone on a big touch screen mounted to the side of it, it definitely makes the gimbal much better to use.
hello, do You happen to know if dual arms from ronin S fit somehow to RS2 and RSC2? I'm not really sure, but mounting brackets on ronin S dual arms look like NATO rail standard.
There are mounting attachments in the kit so that the RSII and RSCII can have the same old mounts. I’m not sure what you mean by dual arms.. There are dual mounts
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE I meant Ronin-S Switch Grip Dual Handle, there was bracket and two arms/handgrips connected to it. I wonder if these have the same mount
nice one, can I recommend you get a lav mic if you dont have one already, so when you make use of the excellent tracking features of the raven eye you can keep your audio perfect, I see you use the tascam dr05 which is what I use paired with the rode lav mic.
I might check that out; I bought a pretty cheap lav and I don’t really like the sound that comes out of it, specially if I’m talking into that big mic on the same video, they’re so different. The rode one makes a big difference?
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE yeah the rode one sounds much better than the cheap ones, obviously it’s still considered a budget mic, my voice is more bassy though but it sounds miles better, my rode ntg3 sounds best overall but for a one man band a lav mic is the best way to ensure you always capture clear sound.
my main use of one of these gimbals will be for the tracking. I'm currently looking at the ronin s because of the sigma 18-35 i primarily use being so front heavy and the balancing issues and potential stress on the motors with balancing weights etc over the course of time with the regular sc model but the sc2 now says it holds about 6.5 pounds vs the previous 4.4 tested payloads. this new version seems that it would be able to handle it but i'd like to get more opinions or if anyone has experience using that lens with this gimbal and how it worked out for them.
In fact I have that very same lens, and I mounted it on a relatively heavy camera - the Nikon D500, to test it out and it handles it just fine! So if you have something like literally any sony camera, it would be even lighter.. But yes, the SC2 is way stronger, way stiffer, and way more stable than the SC, I have them both. Of course, the RS2 would be EVEN stronger, in case you ever started feeling crazy and wanted to use something like a 70-200 on it youd be covered..
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE i really appreciate your reply. that helps a ton. i have a fuji xt4 which is a relatively light camera so it sounds like with the sigma on it things will work great with the sc2 model. thanks!
Yep, the RSC2 can hold 6 pounds. And the r5 is only a bit over 2 pounds. As long as those lenses are less than 4, which I believe they are, it’ll work!
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE im thinking on the ocean and with boating ocean winds that the Ronin2 would be a better choice but i would prefer the smaller easier to carry rsc2

But I bet its expensive 😂😂
Well it’s ALSO very useful just as an external monitor - it sends the live feed from your camera to your phone even across the room. So you can see if you’re framed up the way you want without having to see the camera screen! And start and stop it and stuff.
1:51 , is it me or the footage with Active Tracking is a bit jerky/ghosting? You cut from tracking clip to your talking head clip and your movement seems a lot better. Does Active Tracking/RavenEye pose some heavy processing that the camera footage start to become jerky?
When you can see the tracking info, that’s a screen capture on my phone. And yeah, same with when I do active tracking on the DJI Magic Air 2, it seems that it must use a lot of phone processor power to do the tracking, send commands to the gimbal and screen record at the same time. I’ll bet tracking is using all the cores on my phones processor so that screen recording takes a hit. But the final recording from the camera is quite smooth.
Your video was awesome Nicholas and you are smart and give us some good smile. I subscribed to your channel. I have also a small channel and know how important is to subscribe. So.. here I am and let ne tell you that you deserve it eheh
Oh interesting - it does send a stream to your phone, but the Ronin app has to be running for it to work and they dont have a live stream output.. They really should! I dont know of a way to live stream with it, unless your camera happens to have that function, I know some very new ones do, like the Sony ZV 1
Ha. Depends on the phone I suppose. The newest iPhone software doesn’t snatch the screen away anymore when you receive a call, it’s just a tiny notification on top of the screen that you can ignore or press hang up
Is the raveneye system reliable? I mean it could be used also without the gimbal as hdmi wireless transmitter for pulling focus remotely? Or it would be better something like the hollyland 300 pro transmitter? Do the focus motor work without the gimbal as a stand alone focus system?
For me it has been totally reliable.. The longest Ive had it run was 55 minutes continuously and it never stopped transmitting or giving out data. The focus motor only works with with the gimbal. So yes and no, it works fabulously as a wireless transmitter, but you couldn't pull focus remotely with it.
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE thanks for your reply. Is the raveneye a stand alone transmitter? Could I use it without the gimbal as hdmi wireless transmitter with another remote focus system? Or I should buy also another kind of transmitter like the hollyland?
@@giacomocagnetti2529 Yes you can! It has a hot shoe mount so it can attach right to the top of your camera, or on a cold shoe of a rig. Its got its own battery, too, so it works without the gimbal.
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE okay thank you. Was worried for a min. When I got the RS2 I didn't even know about the raven eye. Guess I have to wait for it to come out.... won't really need it until about March, so hopefully by then I have it.
I kind of thought that feature would be just like fun cool gimmick, but it’s REALLY nice to be able to have my phone as an external monitor across the room so I don’t ever have to wonder how it’s framed up.
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE I do real estate videos for agents and builders, the active tracking it going to save me some time shooting and editing..... hopefully...
@@tomzphone Well at least youre realistic about 'hopefully!' I think it will... I mean, its pretty hard to get a flawless "enter the room and track the corner of a countertop as you turn 40°" with a drone hand held, specially since I see youre shooting 60fps.. but if the damn raven eye covers the tracking and you just have to walk smoothly, it should be a snap! "should."
It would be nice if it was just built in. BUT you can use the raveneye without the ronin to still control your camera from far away and see through it. Which is pretty helpful sometimes.
Sometimes everything is connected, sometimes everything isnt connected. But this gimbal is quite a bit stronger than the last iteration, so even if you balance before you connect all the cables the motors have no problem compensating (of course, not ideal and sometimes can lead to some quivering, though usually not). And the battery is so big I never seem to shoot long enough for it to matter that its working 3-5% harder as a result. Also Im lazy

The best one done on RSC 2! I still want to know how to mount an external monitor on the RSC 2?
nice i
nfo bro thanks
MaN! Thanks- I was exactly looking for this type of setup. Ive gone thru dozens of vids looking for a way to shot solo a movie I'm working on.
I am so glad I could help! There are soooo many combinations of hardware, but by far I love the a6600 with this new gimbal.
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE are you able to toggle photos with the a6600?
@@PaulEckhardt yes you can!
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE nice! Did you try the porama feature? I had trouble with the 6500 and am wondering if it was just my unit
@@PaulEckhardt I haven’t, actually. I will give it a go this weekend and report back.. maybe I’ll make another video about this thing more in depth with its features
What accessorie did you use to mount your microphone?
There’s a little cage called “Small Rig” and They’ve made them custom for pretty much every new camera, and it comes with a whole bunch of cold shoes all over it so you can mount stuff.
Does Active Tracking works with manual vintage lenses equipped with the DJI 3d focus?
Yep! In fact it comes with a motor and a rubber gear ring to put on the lens and have the gimbal control the focus!
I bought a rsc2 standard! You guys underate the gimbal without the raven view! Please respond
That was my same reaction when I found out! And no, sadly you cannot use active track without Raven Eye
That's not cool, I'm still wondering what will happen if my phone rings while using it for active tracking 😁🙃
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE yeah. I had to scroll quite a way down to find this one!
Thanks again for making it.
Exactly the same case for me. So difficult to find out info about it, so I might have to return mine as well!
hello, do You happen to know if dual arms from ronin S fit somehow to RS2 and RSC2? I'm not really sure, but mounting brackets on ronin S dual arms look like NATO rail standard.
There are mounting attachments in the kit so that the RSII and RSCII can have the same old mounts. I’m not sure what you mean by dual arms.. There are dual mounts
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE I meant Ronin-S Switch Grip Dual Handle, there was bracket and two arms/handgrips connected to it. I wonder if these have the same mount
does the in camera stabilization still works when using Raveneye??
Yes it sure does. At least with the a6600 and the a7Siii it does.
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE ohh ok, I saw another guy on CZcams saying that it didnt, will keep searching, thanks for the answer.
nice one, can I recommend you get a lav mic if you dont have one already, so when you make use of the excellent tracking features of the raven eye you can keep your audio perfect, I see you use the tascam dr05 which is what I use paired with the rode lav mic.
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE i really appreciate your reply. that helps a ton. i have a fuji xt4 which is a relatively light camera so it sounds like with the sigma on it things will work great with the sc2 model. thanks!
Can the rsc2 work with R5 and say the L lens 28-70 or the heavier 70-200.
Oh my god thats great especially when youre doing a video with lots of movements here and there or vlogs😊 my channel is a beauty related channel, i just sit in one place and shoot but Im considering on making vlogs too soon and this might be something im interested in really...!
Can you use it for phone??? I stream a lot using phone. Thank you
Oh interesting - it does send a stream to your phone, but the Ronin app has to be running for it to work and they dont have a live stream output.. They really should! I dont know of a way to live stream with it, unless your camera happens to have that function, I know some very new ones do, like the Sony ZV 1
What happens if i receive a call while my mobile phone is connected to the Gimbal 😊
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE thanks a lot... How is the performance of the battery of the raveneye?
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE the battery lasts only for 55 minutes ???
Broke my heart at 3:05😭😭😭
Oh no!!! I don’t know why they’re not more clear about that!
I need to start using my RS2 and raven eye😢😢😢😢
Can the activetrack zoom too or just pan/tilt?
The GIMBAL can zoom, but the active track won’t zoom automatically to track stuff unfortunately.
I just got the RSC 2, so if I buy the raven eye separately, active tracking will not work?
If you buy the Raveneye, active tracking WILL work! It’s just hard to find it in stock anywhere on its own
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE okay thank you.
"should."
I hate that you need the raveneye to use the active track the pocket has it built in why can't the ronin rsc2?
It would be nice if it was just built in. BUT you can use the raveneye without the ronin to still control your camera from far away and see through it. Which is pretty helpful sometimes.
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE if the raven eye had clean HDMI out it would be useful. It doesn't so I don't really like it.
Are you balancing gimbal with all the cables?
Sometimes everything is connected, sometimes everything isnt connected. But this gimbal is quite a bit stronger than the last iteration, so even if you balance before you connect all the cables the motors have no problem compensating (of course, not ideal and sometimes can lead to some quivering, though usually not). And the battery is so big I never seem to shoot long enough for it to matter that its working 3-5% harder as a result. Also Im lazy
@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE thank you 🙏
Awesome video! I'm buying the DJI RS2 Pro this week. Can't wait!!!
I'm a personal trainer taking my work to the online universe. Mother Nature/Pandemic has given me the nudge to up my game. I have a question for you. What are your thoughts on using this technology for Zoom/live streaming? I have one challenge I'm trying to figure around, I have a Canon M50 and trying to figure out how to come up with a Clean HDMI and maintaining 1080. Any thoughts suggestions are greatly appreicated! -Jeremy
I DO zoom with this!
So you can go out of the cameras hdmi into a Camlink 4K, and that little thing makes tour computer think the camera is a webcam and it just pops up in zoom. With the full resolution of the camera!
