This has to be one of my favorite channels not just for mountain biking but over all. Eric takes his family on amazing trips but you can tell he and his wife are raising those boys right. Doing dangerous things safe and having good family values.
That's so awesome to hear, thanks!! It's not the easiest route but super rewarding, we're having a lot of fun together!!
The way you parent is inspiring.
That's great to hear, I'm trying my best!
As a Dad with a kid who’s learning to do “real mountain biking”. Thanks for making this kind of content! It’s so valuable to see real footage of real families with the successes and mistakes and lessons. Honestly thank you
As a father, seeing your kid riding a bike, and for certain, about to crash, and there’s absolutely nothing you can do to stop it from happening, is heartbreaking. The crash my daughter went through, who was hurt and crying at the time (7yr old), definitely felt down about it. But after a few words of encouragement, similar to what happened to Owen with his Dad, she was able to believe in herself, and rode back all the way home. The heart break feeling quickly turned into both a sense of feeling inspired and proud of my seven year old. Great video Eric, your boys are very lucky to have you.
Totally agree, it's a horrible feeling. So awesome when they learn how to handle it though and grow from it, good life analogies there! You've got years of fun adventures coming up with your daughter!!
What an awesome trip--an experience to never forget. Thanks for sharing with us, Porter family.
Thanks for watching, it really was an incredible trip, working on the next video from the trip now!
Incredible
Thanks!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Everyone crashes! Way to take it like a champ Owen. 👊
Yeah he handled it so well, got back up and had a great day!
Owen was unfazed by his tumble lol. Dad was freakin 😄👏 love how he lay there and just said "Told you dad" Owen is a CHAMP!
Haha yeah the "Told you dad" was hilarious, glad he was ok, it scared me for sure!
I really enjoy seeing this family adventure! I love the scenery and inside look at the area ... but I especially appreciate that you share how the terrain presents different challenges to each family member ... and how you learn and support one another
Glad you liked it!! I can't believe I'm able to do stuff like this with the whole crew, it's a lot of years in the making but all that work and patience is definitely paying off!
What a fantastic family and adventure. God bless you all.
Love downhil biking 🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴 love ❤from India🇮🇳🇮🇳
Me too, you'd love this trail! India is awesome too, I hope to return someday!
@@PorterMTB you welocme india🇮🇳
I love how milo was able to recognize when he almost crashed that he was overconfident, found the problem and fixed it Hopefully owen can look back at his crash and remember not to do that again over the videos of been able to tell that owen’s biggest problem is taking both his feet off in riding on his seat, which can cause some pretty sketchy incidents.
And your doing a great job parenting by taking your kids on these adventures and showing them great life lessons when I was a little bit younger than I am my parents bought an RV and lived in it for the whole summer and now I’ve been to over half the states in the US and 4 countries, which was one of the coolest things about my life and I love that you’re doing that for your kids
Yeah Milo is really getting things figured out, it's pretty awesome to see his confidence and abilities progress. Owen as well, I'd agree on his feet, that method worked well for him on the smaller bikes but not as well on the bigger one haha. He's getting it figured out quickly though. We also figured out that Milo has better braking control so he was actually going a bit slower than Owen was able to which ended up being part of why Owen lost control not being able to slow down like Milo.
That's really cool your parents did that, I would love to be able to travel nonstop all summer!!
Glad you enjoyed it, that's awesome your girl is out there shredding, and the crash just ended with some minor scrapes! Gotta give the kids a chance to test themselves and figure things out without pushing too hard, they have plenty of time for that when they get older. Thanks for watching!
What an amazing family experience! Thanks for sharing and two thumbs up for Owen!
Thanks, it really was a fun one, Owen ended up having one of his most fun days on the bike as well!
👏🏽👏🏽💪🏽You all are amazing.
Thanks, hope you have a great day!
I love your videos and how you share the highs and the lows! Great job Owen getting back on the bike!
Thanks!! I love showing those parts of the trip too, it's not always perfect!
I mountain biked 26 miles around Cotopaxi up to 13300ft in 2021. I had the locra de papa in the park restaurant and it was amazing after a cold ride. Amazing place to ride.
That's so cool you got to do that as well! One of my favorite places for sure.
Aww awesome. Can't wait to sit with the family later and watch this. Fantastic. You guys are definitely inspirational. Thank you.
That's awesome to hear, hope the whole crew enjoyed it!
@@PorterMTB We certainly did. Thanks. 😃😃😃
I'm from ECUADOR 🇪🇨 !!! Let's gooooo.
Really good video 👍🏼
Looking forward for part 3!!
Muchas gracias! We love Ecuador, hope to return someday. Working on part 3 now!
Looks like an amazing trip. Love it! Great to see Megan on camera too. Happy family times and amazing family memories.
It was our best trip yet, glad you enjoyed the video!
Wow glad he got back up. Then says let’s rip at the end is awesome. Feel like my son would get mad and want to go home lol.
So cool to see you this doing as a family.
I'm very lucky to do this with my family, it's pretty fun!
Epic trip only made better with family.❤
Totally agree, it was incredible to take them riding in Ecuador!
Awesome family! Great ride and trip
Thanks!! Hope you're having a great day!
Great work Dad and Mom! You guys are amazing!
Thanks! We're really lucky to all ride together!
Glad Owens ok! Looks like an awesome trip Eric 👊🏼👊🏼
Me too, that was a scary one! Glad you enjoyed the video, working on the next one from the Ecuador trip now, it'll be out soon!
Loved the video you are such a good dad.
Glad you enjoyed it! I try my best with parenting, lucky to have this crew to ride and travel with!
Awesome video, Eric! What an amazing spot to ride!! I felt bad for Owen, but he handled it SO well!
@@Willxsanders he is ten bro chill out
@@airfox.r6 when i was ten i didn’t cry like i was 5 💀
Thanks @AZMTB , it was an amazing trip! Owen did so well with it, that was scary for us, and he got right up and had one of his most fun days on a bike afterwards!
Haha @Will Sanders, he's a little dude and that was a scary crash in the middle of nowhere, take it easy. He was shook up for a minute and then had an awesome day.
@airfox ❤️👊
Sick! I was anxiously waiting for part two and I'm so stoked that there's a part 3!
Thanks for posting the links, we probably ride about Megan's skill level so I think this will be more my family's level when we visit again.
Can't wait to see Mindo! For those of you thinking of visiting, check out their chocolate factory. The tour is super interesting and the attached restaurant has delicious food. The ginger beer is delicious but stronger than you'd think so be careful!
We also enjoyed an amazing passion fruit pizza at Sisakuna Lodge. Sounds crazy, but trust me, it works. The lodge looked awesome and the owner let us peek into one of the cabins. We wish we had stayed there as our accomodations there were less than ideal.
That's so awesome you've been there! Tambopaxi was incredible, I hope to go back there again. We definitely went to the chocolate factory in Mindo, one of the highlights, we loved it there!
@@PorterMTB it was a great tour and very educational! BTW, you can order their chocolate from the US. One of the owners is from Michigan and they have a shop there. Brownies with Mindo chocolate are criminally good!
(LOL, Mindo should be sponsoring me.)
Man Ecuador is incredible!
Definitely, it's one of my favorite places!
Just so awesome!! Nicest family bike trip ever! xD
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, we had so much fun!
Great video and awesome riding. So awesome that you can have your family with you. Pedal safe
Thanks! I feel very fortunate to be able to have adventures like this with the whole crew!
You are welcome
Some beautiful views! The downhill looks so fun!
It really does have unreal views, and it's one of the most fun trails I've ever ridden too!
Great video and great parenting! Ecuador is an awesome place!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Ecuador is incredible, I can't wait to go back again someday!
Que bonita experiencia para tus hijos. Yo soy de Ecuador y vivo en Italia.
Espero que sigan disfrutando mucho. Cuidense
¡Amamos a Ecuador, es un país increíble! ¡También quiero llevar a mi familia a Italia!
Another amazing update and section of your trip, 19k feet altitude cannot be easy on you at all, surprised I didn't see/hear more weasing/sucking for breath 😆Your kids will definitely remember this trip the rest of their lives, what a great family adventure, great to show kids the world outside of a big, modern country and how other peoples live.
There's nothing that hurts worse than when you hurt your pride and I think that's what Owen did, that's why he was so upset, not because anything hurt - he's at the stage/age now I think where he's progressed so fast he thinks he's got it all and to be harshly reminded that he's still got stuff to learn bites hard, especially on kids.
Haha yeah breathing was difficult for sure, hard to talk sometimes up there even! Agreed on Owen, thankfully the dirt was soft, he learned a lot from that one!
Looking back to him 5 years ago I can really see how much better his skills are
It really is crazy how much he has progressed!!
Dude Owen is an animal every time he falls he gets back up and just keeps shredding you guys are so cool just keep staying awesome.
Haha yeah he is an animal! I hope you stay awesome as well!
Great job, Owen and Megan. Owen I have had some bad crashes if you can get up and keep riding its all good
Thanks! It was cool to see both of them work through the hard parts and have an awesome day!
I hiked Cotopaxi about 20 years ago…brings back fond memories!! What a place!
That's awesome, we all want to go back and hike to the top someday, it's so high though, hard to breathe!!
Family goals! Atta boy Owen for dusting yourself off and getting back on the bike!
It's a dream come true that's for sure, glad Owen was ok as well, he handled it well!
Ride Hard -- and Have Fun!
You got it!
ALWAYS FAMILY AWESOMENESS 👍👍
Thanks Todd!! Hope you and the crew are doing well!!
That was killer man 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻some day for me !!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!!
Owen's stack was totally unco but he got back up and shred the rest like a boss. Be like Owen.
Yeah he did! Proud of him!
Looks so fun keep up the content
Thanks, it was really fun for sure. Working on the next Ecuador video now, it'll be out soon!
What a great family adventure!!
Thanks, it was a fun one!
Awesome to see a family rippin it 💪🏾 I started to take my 3 yr daughter along and she loves riding. I hope to take her out to our locsl forest soon 🤩
That's so cool to hear, you've got years of fun adventures with her coming up!!
So awesome taking the family on such a crazy adventure. Sure hope Owen and milo takes away great memories you guys are making. Love the don't go to fast guys, but later someone has to take the fall lol. Wish my life would slow down enough to even take my own kid on some local adventures even. Happens some times I guess but not enough.
Yeah it was a cool one, although definitely a bit stressful on my end with an adventure like this managing the risk for it! I feel you on the time part too, I never have enough time to do everything I want to with the kids. I hope you're able to make it happen more often like you want to!
he has been a pro from when he started youtube
Crashing is part of riding.... Learning how to do it right and get right back at it (injury dependant) quickly is key to rider longevity. Kids are also so resilient and adaptable. Well done for shaking it off and ripping on, dude.
Yeah crashes are inevitable when riding, especially as you start pushing limits. Would have been a bad place to get hurt, glad he was all good and went on to have one of his most fun days on the bike!
Awesome ride 💪👍
Thanks!!
That's pretty cool, Eric. Good to see "my trails" on youtube. I remember the first time you did Vuelta al Coto. I think I did it with my wife. I was still racing for Daniel's.
What's up!! I love Ecuador so much, lots of good trails, amazing people, food, and mountains! Vuelta al Coto was really cool, I want to go back and race it again someday. That year was cool, I remember rain/snow at the high point in the race, those were huge days. I went back the following year when Cotopaxi was erupting so they moved the race to some farmlands somewhere safer, it was still a great race but I wanna go around the volcano again!
@@PorterMTB Great to hear that. I'm living in Colorado near Golden, now. Let me know if you ever come this way. it would be great to go for a ride.
Loved Ecuador, did not miss the food
Glad you loved it! I'm not sure what you ate, but we loved the food! Didn't try the guinea pig though haha.
What an adventure you guys having.. 🤙
Definitely, we feel very lucky to do this!
Brilliant video
Owen is a pretty tough kid and he sure knows how to fall right too😂😂
yeah lol
What an amazing adventure!
Yeah it was so much fun!
@@PorterMTB You guys should come check out Griffin Bike Park in Indiana. We don't have any volcanos to ride down but it is still pretty awesome.
Great video! Trails look incredible! I’m dad of 2 boys who ride (and one is named Milo as well)Great riding Owen! It’s always scary watching your kid crash is an odd way or far off location! Great riding Owen! We get thrown off just like you did but not everyone gets back up to keep shredding! Great work boys!
Thanks!! That's rad you've got a Milo as well, tell the boys we say hi! Definitely scary when they crash, especially in the middle of nowhere, glad he was ok!
Very good...Great advert for POC also
Thanks! Haha yes we love their gear, been keeping us safe for years!
Love your vids
Thankyou!! Working on the next Ecuador video now!
I am a Aussie and I used to ride horses but gave it up for mtb riding!
That must have been such a fun trip! Just wondering if you plan on posting any snowboarding content if so that would be amazing especially since a have a CZcams channel featuring snowboarding
Thanks, it was our best trip yet! We will definitely be making snowboard videos, just working on the last video from the Ecuador trip now, then snow stuff! We actually snowmobiled into a backcountry yurt for some splitboarding and skiing, that'll be after the next Ecuador vid! I'll check out your channel as well!
My daughter is 10, just about Owen's age, and she had a crash going over a drop this past weekend. Skinned up her elbow. She took a couple minutes to be mad and cry a bit, and then we were back on the bikes. (Although she got mad again when we cleaned it up back at the car!)
So cool to see kids test themselves, learn that they can push through a challenge, and keep going after a setback! Good job to you and Megan for giving them the space and support!
Nice job. It's a challenge for me to go out climbing or MTBing with my kids. I see them managing risk as an important part of their childhood, but they don't realize that I'm ALSO learning to manage risk by taking them. What will I let them do? What will I tell them to hold off on? I'm always scared for them when we go out, but I never let them know. It takes all of my effort as a parent to resist wrapping them in bubble wrap and sticking to green rated trails.
@@rcranes2227 exactly like this. Having the same issue with my 9yr old daughter.
So EPIC! Great crash with low consequences. Perfect learning experience.
Thanks!! Yeah I'm glad he was ok, both of us learned a lot for sure!
What an awesome video! Love seeing you and your family having a blast and improving together! What camera did you use for those cinematic handheld shots? I love the cinimeatography in these videos!
That's awesome, glad you enjoyed it! My friend Juan shot those on his Sony. His instagram is in the video description, you could ask him there which model he was using, I can't remember exactly.
I hope Milo and Owen compete on UCI in the future.
I am excited to go mountain biking now I’m about to leave to go now I am inspired 😊
That's awesome, hope you had a great ride!
Thank you I had a great ride
Que lugar lindo 🤩
Si, es asombroso!
Hey if you are still in Ecuador let me know for a ride near Quito. Enjoy your time in Ecuador
We are home now, but I hope to go back sometime for more riding!
Wow, what a trip. And maybe your Megan could convince my Megan to take up biking. I have yet to find the right approach. 🤣
It really was an incredible trip! Haha hopefully some of our videos with Megan will help her? Megan didn't ride MTB when we met, but she's gotten more and more into it over the years and loves it now! Best advice is start with small fun rides and create great experiences that you can build on, good luck!
a wise actor once said why do we fall? its so we can get back up and keep trying failure is a key part of success
That's a great quote, definitely have to crash sometimes to learn from mistakes and make forward progress!
@@PorterMTB have you ever ridden in the UK idk if we have bike parks per se but there are lots of wild trails and mountain trails like in the lake district
Hey Eric, the diamondback 5c has been my dream bike for ever and I have almost enough saved out to buy it, I was just wondering what are some of you favorite features on the bike
Hey Phil! That's awesome, I love this bike so much and have spent most of my time on it for a few years. I love the geometry and how much travel it has, the Fox 36 and DPX2 are my favorite suspension, and the SRAM drivetrain that comes on it is great too. I mostly love how versatile and playful the bike is on trail, it's pretty fun for everything from bikepark to big trail rides. Good luck getting the bike, let me know when you do!
Omg you were at my country that soo cool
I love your country! That was my third trip to Ecuador, I hope to go back again someday!
@@PorterMTB hopefully the next time ill be there as well lol, i actually live in russia (quite the oppsite to Ecuador in terms of weather)
🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾

Sounds like my son. I told you I didn’t want to do it (though they do). The crash just upsets them and embarrasses them at the same time, but they learn and grow from it.
That's exactly it!
You guys are so cool my name is Beau I live in Southern Utah next to Brian head and you might know it. I love Mountain Biking there it is basically like deer valley it is also so beautiful you should definitely come in the summer.
What's up Beau! We'll go to Brian Head sometime for sure!
Have you ever been to Australia if you were to go I would recommend Tasmania and Cairns to go mountain biking
I've only been to Sydney, but we really hope to visit Australia in the next couple years!
@@PorterMTB ok if you do go hope you have a good time
I have always wanted 2 do a long mtb trail and seeing other ppl do it have inspired me more even know I am 11 but I better start early lol
That's awesome, you'll get there! 11 is a great age to start doing bigger rides!

awesome video wow
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it!!
@@PorterMTB have a great week 👌
"Because it looks fun" too bad many of us use that logic till we're well into adulthood/parenthood haha I often have to remind myself that my daughter is only 5 and some of the stuff like like MTB that I want to share with her will take some time to get her ready for. Love that you share these adventures with us!
Haha yeah I still use that logic too often, luckily I'm pretty good at thinking things through now though. You are gonna have so much fun riding with your daughter, just keep it fun and chill and ramp up as she's ready!
I did a hike up to the tea hut and a mountain bike down the volcano trip a few years ago. The bike they gave me to use was terrifying and they just pointed me down the road. It was equal parts scary and boring. I couldn’t wait for it to be done. This is what I was hoping for when I signed up.
Hopefully things are different now but be careful when getting your tours I guess.
That's awesome you made it up there! We saw one of those tours going up, they all rode scary looking bikes down the road, definitely didn't look like a good time haha. We just rode it with our friends from Ecuador, but there are a few people that guide real MTB rides there I think.
I love your channel
Thank you so much, love to hear that!
@@PorterMTB thank you for replying! I was just wondering if you had any tips for bike jumping and how to get air?
So sick. Has owen ever been to highland bike park?
