    Really like your videos. Not too much hype and it’s not one big brand commercial. You’re just someone that loves duck hunting as much as me and are honest about what works and what doesn’t. I hunt a cypress/tupelo reservoir and the gadwall drake call is a must. Duck Commander also now makes a magnum gadwall call that is much louder - check it out.

    When I first got into hunting, we were mostly hunting wood ducks on the bayou... So I started off with a Duck Commander wood duck call. Then being the obsessive overachiever that I am, I bought and learned to blow every type of call I could get my hands on them... The DC gadwall, BWT/GWT call, DC mallard drake, the Haydels T5 call (teal hen/whistle combo), and I just bought the Haydels whistling duck call when it came out a couple of months ago. The mallard hen call was actually the last call that I learned to use.

  • @okshotgun
    @okshotgun Před rokem

    I use the Gadwall, Wood duck, and mallard drake when they are near. Most of the time I just have them in my bag and keep them handy if I need them. My mallard call is the Duck Commander Cut Down Reacher. I have others, but this one is my favorite. It takes a little more air, but the sound works for me. Sometimes, with a mallard call, I feel like you have to find one that you can work and work well. Just because someone else sounds really good on it doesn’t mean you will. So I just use what works for me and I can sound as close to a duck as possible. Love the videos, keep ‘em coming. God Bless.

    I use the mallard drake call you showed at times and also use it for wood duck call and whistle etc
    but its not on my lanyard leave it on shelf nearby. I only have canada goose call and mallard call and Moohr whistle along with dog whistle on my lanyard. Haven't ever tried gadwall call but have considered it usually gadwall and widgeon work us well with mallard call plus or minus whistle and teal usually use generic whistle though one in our group uses teal call. We generally have no trouble getting teal in either. I definitely think those calls help. The only use I have for the shaker feed call is to give youngsters something to do to feel like they are contributing till they get good enough on other calls but it is great for that as long as the movement is hidden. Enjoy your videos.

    I use three different hen mallard calls, a high roller, and a three 8n one wistle. I tune a d-2 open water, a Woodford low range, and a buck Gardner double nasty as a finisher and a wood duck call. Then I use the high Roller for pintails, the three in one for female mallard wistles, the low range call for gad walls and feeding chatter. The open water for teal and comeback calls, and the finisher for two quack greetings. However there is a lot of noises that birds make that should be avoided because some species make one set of noises, some make two sets of noises and some make three or four sets of noises, they all respond to basic quacks or peeps on a wistle. Mallards have four sets of noises they have quacks, feeding chuckles, comebacks, and wistles. Teal have four sets they squeek they quack, and they peep and burr. Gad walls quack and squeek, wood ducks squeek, peep, and chirp. And every noise has a reason they do it, some it's to get up off the water, some it's to land some it's to turn, some it's to say there's food, some is to say don't come hear, some is to say wtf are you doing? Etc... until you have called ducks for several years and heard what they do and tried different things it's quite hard to determine how to work some species. After you get all that figured out there is still days they fly by like your not there but there is those times when you're working all the species in your flyway directly into your decoys. So the million dollar question when you are out is had you done nothing would they have done the same thing or if you had of called your head off would they have done something different. The magic of it is when you let go and let God, and you have a hunt where you just try to make it all part of nature decoys look great calls sound good flappers toiling away, the sound of the wind and water, and you spot a flock 1and a 1/2 miles out and throw out a ribbon of half feeds followed by two quacks and they start towards you, get .5 miles out locked on your decoys so you quack twice again. Vier off and pass high on the outside so you feed call and quack they turn a circle over you and break off high right so you hit them with a 5 note comeback and they turn back into the the circle and you hit them with two quacks and they set there wings and scoop the flapper into the space behind your decoys, where you grab your shotgun and yell take email boys and shoot a duck 15 feet in front of the blind. That's when it all starts to make since.

      you might try a different reed. A longer reed makes it raspier. If you get some blank reeds, cut them exactly like the original reed- except about 1/8 of an inch longer... try blowing and then keep trimming it (just a hair at a time). That may be a cheaper fix. Otherwise, try an echo timber in wood... I really like the Echo pure meat call... it's more expensive though. Final suggestion, since you are in Arkansas, you may consider a trip to Echo's shop... they can really dial you in!

    Duck Commander or Haydel Wigeon/Pintail whistle and why one is better than the other in your opinion.

      I have no experience with the Haydel whistle, but I do have the DC whistle and the Sure Shot whistle. Both are great, but I carry the Sure Shot bc it has its own lanyard that I just loop around my big lanyard as to not take up another slot

    I have a question. First though, let me give you some info about my experience level. I have hunted ducks here and there with friends that are guides and competiotion callers, so i have not really had the need to do anything except show up, help set deeks, and shoot. I can call good enough to kill a few ducks, I know the different sounds, when and why to use them, but im looking into taking my 3sons with hunting so i am in the market to be buying some calls. Some for me, some fir 13year olds. Now the question: lets say we know nothing about calls, and im staring at a rack of them at the local outdoor store. I see acrylic, polycarbonate, wood, single reed, double reed, etc. What would you suggest for calls to fill a lanyard to hunt primarily teal, woodies, mallards, and some divers like buffs or goldeyes? I am in northern mn a few mi south of canada. Hunting river flowages and small weedy bays in larger lakes.

    The only thing I call is teal during teal season. The reason being everybody and there 8th cousin has called ducks. I live in Florida so ducks do not respond well to them.

      @@SurvivingDuckSeason it just seems awfully cheesy with the intensely deep narrative voice, again I am sorry to complain but yalls content is still great and I will continue to watch even if you dont change it. 👍

    Ahhh yes the good ole Primos shaker.....a guy we used to hunt with broke one out one morning and the next thing you heard was the entire blind (3 of us non shaker users) braying like a trio of Donkeys. He threw us a few choice words and back in his blind bag the shaker went....Never to be seen again

    No need for anything but a realistic Mallard call where I hunt. I hear guys say the ducks are Call Shy
    I say bs ducks are shy from poor callers. I have been calling for 57 years and still run( practice) my calling 2 or 3 times a week ALL year long. Practice practice and more practice. If you find a good sounding call stick with it. Oh practice and practice some more. If you can find a spot and listen to those live wild Mallard hens. Sound like them.
    Oh did I mention to practice. Good hunting 👍 Mallard Mike.

    If you use a gadwall call properly they are very effective, you sir do not use it correctly but that’s ok.
    I’ve found they work better to call them in after they have already hit the water
